When Trinity and Neo have finished doing their 'thing', the camera pans back and they are laying inside a dome shape... Reminded me of an Egyptian heiroglyph, namely the primevel mound of creation..

Actually, I didn't think that Neo and Trinity did finish doing their thing. I got the impression that Neo was so worked up over his visions that he simply went soft. The expression on both of their faces says concern to me rather than relief.

Both scenes were nothing more than pointless. But then again... most of Reloaded was as well. I guess they fit right in.

When you look at Reloaded... it really wasn't very good. It lacked substance. It really had nothing more to add to the plot except for the extremely vague ending which was probably intended to raise so many questions in order to get people to buy their products and come to the next movie.

It was a disappointment. I am hoping that the Wachowskis have something incredible to show us (plotwise) in the next movie to make up for the ebb which was Reloaded.

I didn't see either one of the scenes to be pointless. The rave scene was a bit long, but it showed what Morpheus said to begin with: the people aren't afraid and let's party like it's the end of the world. The sex scene was important because it showed Neo's concern for Trinity's well being. Going with the fact that he couldn't splooge because he saw her falling from a building (God knows, the same would happen to me), it helps to understand why he made the choice he did in the end. I can't expand on that, maybe someone who understands where I'm coming from could word it better.

While the Rave scene was my least favorite part, I think it was relavent and therefore quite appropriate. It helped establish that Morpheus's speach did in fact hit home for Zion's people. It also gave Neo and Trinity time to go make sweet love down by the fire place. I think it was necessary to explicitly show them mattress surfing, because without doing so, we wouldn't see Neo loose his uhhh... (for the sake younger readers) momentum.

While it always a tragety for a man, even a fictional one, suffer such a disaster and humiliation it helps the viewer relate to Neo as a person... a flesh and blood human with weaknesses and vunerablilities.

Oh yeah, I forgot, there's a hot chick with a see-through top during the rave scene. That in itself makes the rave scene great, because both movies so far have lacked nudity.

Finally, I'll add that every other great story has its parts that aren't as exciting as our favorite parts. StarWars I: the Anakyn and Jar-Jar parts; StarWarsII: Ani and Padma romance scenes; DBZ: Gohan goes to high school saga, Debby does Dallas: the beginning where the cheer leaders discuss why they need to embark on there adventures; The Nutty Professor: Dr. Clump's depression scenes in his laboritory;
... these parts are generally skipped after you see them a few times, but they do make important contributions to the central narrative. I mean we can't have a movie entirely comprised of Light Saber fights, double penetrations, SuperSaiyans throwing down and fart-jokes... can we?

I have to admit, I found the rave scene a bit pointless, but then I don't do e's and go to raves anyway (darkwave nightclubs are just fine for me, thanks), so maybe I missed the point.

Not so sure about the sex scene -- it's been a while since I've seen #2 now. Number 3 is about to be released on Wednesday and I'm watching #2 again tonight on a hired video. In general though, I think sex scenes ought only be in films if they advance the plot (or are the plot!).

Given the relationship Neo and Trinity had, it was a matter of time before we would see them in a love scene. This doesn't surprise me.

The rave scene was necessary since it was a reaction to the speech Morpheus made. My only beef with it is the fact that it was too long-- some time from the rave scene could have been used instead for either character development or extended dialogue from the main characters. I would have made the rave scene shorter. Of course, the sex scene would have to have been made shorter as well since both things happened at the same time.

Now that I think about it, dancing seems to be important in the movies from a cinematic standpoint. The Matrix has the scene at a dance club where Neo first meets Trinity. The Matrix Reloaded has the rave/sex scenes which are the focus of this thread, and here Neo and Trinity get closer than in the first movie. The Matrix Revolutions has the scene where Trinity (along with Morpheus and Seraph) visit the Merovingian at Club Hell so she (and they) could locate and rescue Neo from his limbo state.

while all these movies had the gratuitous club scenes... the significance to this one was that it was a celebration of life

the people of zion were releasing pent-up fear and anger and Neo & Trinity sought a moment of intimacy which is what people often do in dire times (did we note the population boom 9 months after 9/11)

it made sense

I found the rave/sex scene to be actually an important scene. It shows the contrast between the human and the machine. As Mouse eloquently stated in The Matrix

Quote:

"To deny our own impulses is to deny the very thing that makes us human"
With that, not only is the rave/sex scene appropriate, it is pivotal to the depiction of the free human. Without sexual drive and desires, humans are the same as machines when they procreate. And I can see the arguement that "it was made to attract more of an audience" but in this case, while that may be true, it is not just pointless nudity and sex. This is only my humble opinion.

I felt it robbed Reloaded of time it could have used developing the plot. Away with it. Take more time creating the plot instead of rushing it and throwing in a rave party a la Cave. Screwy

On "The Matrix" Mouse told this to Neo:

Quote:

"To deny our own impulses is to deny the very thing that makes us human"

The importance of this scene is to show human escence. The sex scene between Neo and Trinity is to show the strong Love they have for each other.

Unfortunately no one can be told what The Matrix is...You have to see it for yourself.

I'd take that link/connection at face value if Morpheus had spent 10 seconds explaining it. there are other plot twists that need more time. Rave and sex are important but not very.

The music on the movie was specifically made for it hence the names on the Album. The sex/rave scene was a little drawn out and could have just had the end bit to with Neo and Trinity say they'll never let go. The scene was put in because you don't see them do much in their relationship so it was just to establish that they where "In Love".

Well..... here I am.

It was important to show the life of Zion, the whole movie was the 'life' part of the trilogy, which made it neccessarry to have plenty of things about life. And not only was there one girl with visible nipples, there were three, not only that, but all three were getting into plenty of lesbian action. Having said that, the whole thing was a bit long, surely something else could've been come up with to represent life. Looking over it though, I suppose it was neccessary.
