If The Architect represents anything, then he represents God. It was God who created the world, the animals, humans, etc. NOT SATAN. Satan did not create anything.

Satan is represented in The Matrix, but it's not by The Architect. He is represented by The Merovingian.

I agree with Echelon. The A.I. did not want to die and Created the Matrix to live off of the Humans.

The A.I. or Architect is the Creator of the Matrix world.
In Biblical form the Architect is God the creator of its world.

I do not know what role The Merovingian plays but it is not the Devil because acording to many books the Merovingians were the descendants of Jesus Christ but the Vatican did not want this fact to be known. because that would mean that Jesus Christ was maried and had children.

I thought Archie only existed in the Matrix, not in the real world. So you think he is a machine that is plugged in or what?

I think the Architect is a creator god, similar to God in Genesis. If anyone is playing the role of Satan in the Matrix it's Neo.

Inevitability

I think the Architect is humanity gone wrong:
“ Thus did Man become the architect of his own demise”

The systematic ‘mind’ or consciousness that Neo (and others) become enlightened to ~robbed of spirit (Oracle). Bound by all the parameters due to Vanity & Corruption: A system of control ~ a prison for your mind. However, lawful (Neo: I believed him).

So he is like a hive mind of mans lost humanity and alienation, a representative of those actual entities (laws of nature) that binds/defines, corrupts. (“What do you think I am ~ human?” -A contradiction)

That is why it would take another archetype of Man (i.e. ‘Mr Anderson’ ~ another ‘Son of Man’ in the likeness of ‘Neo’, the New One, Not bound by all those parameters (as he learns), but overcoming them with Love, sacrificing himself within that very system to create the balance and freedom for all those that want out.

Do you want out?

Put your trust in Neo, follow his path.

I think The Matrix is a highly symbolic/allegorical movie. So the question is: "What does the Architect represent in relation to what is going on in the real world."

The Architect and The Oracle are the two halves of Yang and Yin. The Architect cannot be analyzed without taking into account his relationship to The Oracle.

The Architect is symbolic of Patriarchal Culture and The Oracle is symbolic of Matriarchal culture. The Matrix is Patriarchal and Zion is Matriarchal. All of the authority figures in the matrix are male, the agents, the police, Neo's boss, the Merovingian. Persephone has power but as the consort of the Merovingian. In the council chambers when all of the captains are present there are 12 councilors. It looks like 7 of them are women and the 4 in the center are all women. A woman does most of the talking and asks for captains to search for the Neb.

Now this brings up the bicameral brain business. In Latin the word "SINISTER" means LEFT. The Romans said bad omens appeared on the left. But the human body is wired criss-crossed. The right brain controls the left side so it is the right brain that must be sinister. But like The Oracle said, "The only way to get there is together." Each side of the brain has advantages. Nirvana must mean perfecting both sides of the brain.

So on a global scale we have the Roman Patriarchal Matrix that has spread around the world with technology and engulfed the non-White matriarchal cultures but the technology has become so powerful it is capable of wrecking the planet.

You will all be assimilated.

Resistance is FUTILE!

The ideal culture would be neither matriarchal nor patriarchal.

The LOGIC, Logos is inescapable.

The ILL Logic of the collective must be exposed.

I would like to add by an observation that the message seems to change between the secon and third movie :-

In reloaded, we do see mostly male figures in control, and as the movie progresses, they become more and more powerful. We meet the Merovingian, the Architect, Lock, Councillor Hamman, Morpheus, Smith, etc. And Neo himself looks powerful, in control and at least a bit arrogant.

Then, as soon as Neo faces the architect, he is given the final choice -> to go right (do the manly thing and save humanity) or go left, to save the one he loves. From the beginning of M1, Neo has been instructed to go left ("To your left is a window", "The door on your left", etc.). Once he makes that final choice, all the men in the movie start to fall and the women rise to power: The architect's office explodes; Morpheus' ship is destroyed ("I have dreamed a dream, but now that dream is gone from me."); Neo is trapped in Mobil Ave. and has to be saved by Trinity; Niobe pilots the Logos; Lock is lost in the battle against the machines; Zee saves Kid; etc.

I think that's what is expressed by Taoism - Know the right, but keep to the left; know the light but keep to the dark. Aaah, is there anything better than to post here and to drink something

Now that's funny. I got the Yang-Yin and the left and right brain hemispheres but I never associated that with the left and right doors. Whitelaugh

But I just thought that business with Tank was very funny.

"NO, your other left."

I'll have to start paying more attention to doors.

There are many more examples of opposites in the Matrix. One that I haven't seen discussed yet relates to the way Neo fights each time. Usually the fight scenes are just viewed as action sequences but, as they portray struggles of various kinds, it's worth looking at the way Neo progresses in his approach to these challenges.

When Neo fights Smith at the end of M1, for example, he turns and blocks the attacks effortlessly using his left hand (=right brain ?).

When the 'upgraded' agents attack at the start of M2, his left-hand punch gets blocked, so he uses his feet instead.

I won't go into every detail right now, but there is much more. Has this been discussed elsewhere ?

Keanu Charles Reeves is left-handed, but plays the bass guitar right-handed. I don't know how much that affects the way it was shot.

In my opinion, and this far from fact, I tend to see partial logic in the following explanation:

Carlito states:

Quote:

"The Oracle is a representation/manifestation of God in the Matrix."

"All of Mero's comments to Seraph/Morpheus/Trinity about fighting there way through Hell. He is Satan/Hades. Who was Hades wife? Persiphone is her name. Mero asks for the eyes of the oracle because there is a huge difference between God and the Fallen Angel Satan. God is all-knowing. Mero/Satan wants to be all-knowing so that he can be the God.”

However, you state there are two separate representations of Satan.

Quote:

Carlito states:
a) “Mero. represents Satan in the Real World. He is not in the Matrix. He lives in a world outside of the Matrix.”
b) “The Architect is a representation/manifestation of Satan in the Matrix.”

This is plainly absurd, for two solid reasons, The Merovingian "lives" inside of the Matrix, not outside the Matrix (as you state). The Merovingian is assumed to be the only representation of Satan the devil, whereby his followers e.g. The ghost Twins are representative of demon followers.

And it is absurd to assume the Architect is Satan; The Architect is not Satan for it was his initial intention to create a perfect world, where nobody would suffer, however, it was man who rejected it. The Architect intends to bestow a level of happiness toward mankind with his intention for the creation of a perfect Matrix-dream world. Additionally The Architect is envious of nobody (unlike Satan). He is constantly surrounded by bright light, white being prevalent. He is the masculine representation of God, constantly surrounded in white, and often referring to his perfection.

It makes the most sense to assume The Oracle is a representation of the feminine god, whereby she is all-knowing, this is further demonstrated through her protective “Seraph” whereby ‘seraph’ being literally translated as, ‘a high ranked angel’ guarding over her. The architect: “If I am the father of the matrix, she [The Oracle] would undoubtedly be its mother.”

Conclusively, please briefly check out 'The Merovingian' picture at

If this doesn't look like The Merovingian is Satan, then shoot me, look at the representation of red, and his ears resembling horns.

I agree, the architect is not Satan. I think that possibly so many people immediately class him as Satan is because of a cultural distaste for stern, old men. Plus he does come accross as very cold. But his detachment is not due to hate, he simpliy sits above the world he created, and continues to create. He therefore appears to be a symbol of God the creator, or the masculine will-energy.

No, they could have inverted the frame. Details are important throughout the story, and I don't believe that this is a coincidence.

Here was I propose you think about. Instead of thinking about the Merovingian or The Architect or Neo as religious symbolistic icons, think of them as inherent passions and feelings within mankind. I, for one, am not religious by any stretch of the word. I am a believer in the human mind, that it can achieve great things, that we created God, not the other way around, and so forth.

I hate reading about how people make a connection between Christianity and The Matrix. What about Buddhism? Hinduism? Islam? Things like these, I always wonder, if people are simply asking questions that are centralized to make themselves feel all that more important.

Anyway, this is what I propose you all think about. Perhaps Neo is mankind's "will to fight", or, "The Learning Self". It is the binding construct within our minds that we learn, adapt, overcome, or die. As the movies progress, Neo becomes more powerful, adapting to situations by reactions. This can be seen in the first Matrix when Neo and Smith are fighting. Smith places Neo in two frontal armbars and proceeds to headbutt him twice. A little later in the fight when Neo becomes more relaxed, focused, he places Smith in the same technique.

Food for thought - If Neo is "The Learning Self", then what is Trinity? Perhaps she is "The Beautiful Self". She is who Neo falls for. Also, on note of The Architect. Perhaps he is "The Calculating Self". Very maticulous, serious, and very mathematical. He is methodical in his doing, but has good intentions. The Merovingian is the easiest to classify. He has the classic dogma of the power hungry individual, but he is also lustful. He does not only want power, but, rather, wants freedom. He is an exiled program, but still bound by the constraints of the Matrix. So, perhaps the Merovingian is "The Wanting Self"?

Picture if you will.
