everyone is saying that a 4th wouldnt work, but as a matter of fact, it would! i think, that by now, its pretty obvious that the matrix is linked with christianity (neo is jesus and saves every one from smith who represents sin). if this is the case then just as jesus will, accoring to the bible, return then so must neo!
heres where the fourth starts: 37 years after revalations, humans and machines have lived in pease until about 5 years ago when the machines dont want peace (at the end of revalations the architect says "how long do u think this peace shall last?"). however, during the peace time, the machines have given technology to the humans and so humans are more ready to fight. this is when neo returns to morpheos who is and old man, and neo says that its time to finish this (just as jesus will when he returns). it is here that neo must get a helper (unfortuantly trinity is long dead) to help him kill the architect as he is on the side of the machines (whereas the oracle is on the side of neo), once the architect is dead it is time for the humans to go to war against the machines in the machine city (since the machines have given the tools to create more guns and war tools and the flying craft things)! once the barriers have been broken, neo must go to the source of the machines that have humans pluged into the matrix and destroy it (he is able to do this as he has got some of his powers in the real world which is shown in reloaded). once the mashine is destroyed there is no more matrix and the machines have no power (humans)! and so start to die out! and so neo and the people of zion rebuild the 'perfect' city (heaven). that is, IMO, the true ending, however, the details have not been thought through but i am working on it, who knows maybe i will be able to get this through to a producer or even the W.brothers! i think that this is a great storyline and i hope u enjoy it!
