I have read many theories on the machine world and would like to propose a comprehensive look at the machine worlds solution to the problem of the matrix.

The Architect states that huge crops of humans were lost, until choice was used as the dominant method of control. But with choice the machines could expect a small percent of humans to reject the matrix and its limitations. These humans would create increasing turbulence in the matrix world. The Agents are established to stop them, and are given free reign to suppress this rebellion. The Agents are driven by the promise of being pulled out of the matrix and inserted into the Mainframe if they succeed in stopping someone considered the "One", as infered by Smith in the Morpheius interrogetion during episode 2. It is mathematically probably that the agents will not be able to stop all of them. Here we have the introduction of the Anomoly, the one being who exceeds the control of the system.

Architect -

Quote:

(An anomoly) That if left unchecked might threaten the system itself, ergo those that refuse the program while the minority if unchecked would cause an escalating probability of disaster.

Left unchecked this anomoly could drastically disrupt the system so the machines create ways to help guide him on a known path to maintain control. This is the job of the Oracle. She uses her intuitive programming for prediction and control. The Merovingian demonstrates that food can be used to control the thoughts and feelings of subjects. The Oracle uses cookies and her red candy for the same aim. She promises Neo that after he eats the cookie he'll feel right as rain and will remember he doesn't believe in all that he's seen, among other things. Neo eats the cookie, but not the red candy from episode 2. Her aim is to keep tabs on the the Neo "hopefulls", and direct them on the quest towards the glowing door and the Architect. She even gets Zion to forward this thrust through particular individuals such as Morpheus. The Oracle is setup as a human ally, though works in conjunction with the machines.

The Keymaker is created by the machines as one more element to keep the humans working on the determined quest. A new keymaker would surely be created upon the demise of the first.

The gamble is that most will be killed off in this quest by Agents and so forth, but one might actually make it to the door and the Architect. The machines do not know who this will be but calculate that it will happen eventually.

Neo manifests his mastery of the Matrix system at the end of episode 1. A "hopefull" that actuallizes control over Matrix code activates the next defence of the machines, which is the invasion of Zion. It is probable that this new One will now reach the door so an ethical dillema is created artificially which will hopefully enforce compliance. They predict how long it will take the next One to reach the door based on past versions of the Matrix and time this invasion accordingly.

The Architect is kept updated on the status of the Neo "hopefulls" by agents or others, and knows Neo by name upon his arival. Neo is not the One by predetermination, but because he is the one who happens to make it to the end of the path. He is the anomoly that eludes all other forms of resistance, a calculated probability taken into account by the machines.

Architect -

Quote:

The function of the One is now to return to the source allowing a temporary dissemination of the code you carry reinserting the prime program after which you will be required to select from the matrix 23 individuals, 16 female 7 male, to rebuild Zion. Failure to comply with this process will result in a cataclysmic system crash killing everyone connected to the matrix. Which, coupled with the extermination of Zion will ultimately result in the extinction of the entire human race.

The dillema put to Neo is this: Because he has made it to the golden door and used the specific key he has now activated a pending system crash that will kill all humans plugged into the Matrix. There is also now a pending invasion of Zion which will wipe out the current free population of humans. Thus, the human species will go virtually extinct. This will also destroy the machines main power source and force them into a hibernation while they put in place a new back-up plan for this calculted circumstance. This contingency is not expressed but must surely exist. The truth of Neos path is revealed a lie and an important decision put on his shoulders with humankind at stake.

Architect -

Everyone is implanted with a code that will stop this system crash. But the One will be the person who actually made it to the glowing door & initiated the crash, and is the one who must decide then to stop it. If he complies and integrates with the mainframe by choice he will be given the option to rebuild Zion, and will save the existing humans plugged into the Matrix. He can not save the residents of the current Zion, but will save the rest of humanity. If he goes out the other door he will most likely be killed by the explosion of the building, the system crash if still jacked in, or with Zion in the invasion along with the rest of humanity. All his predecesors chose the decide in favor of the species.

(Smith) is you, your oposite, your negtive, The result of the equasion trying to balance itself out. . . One way or another this war is going to end. Tonight the future of both worlds will be in your hands or in his.

The old Ones are some of them still around, like Seraph. He says he protects that which matters most. What matters most is the mutual relationship between men and machines. Humans are kept alive to the degree that they continue to follow the Matrix coding. From the machines perspective if a person or program developes the powers of an Anomoly and uses those powers in an undirected manner, they could create such problems with the system that the machines would be forced to annialate the entire crop of humans, or be destroyed themselves. This circumstance is portrayed by Smith through Episode 3.

Seraph may have been an earlier One who took this recklace path along side the Merovingian. The Merovingian in history is from a French royalty that claims direct lineage from Christ, though questionably so. There is also the Priory of Zion which is noted as the actual protector of Christs line, probably mirrored by the Zion of our trillogy. The Merovingian would be the impostor in this case, being but a program and an exile. His reference to Seraph as Judas is made from his point of view, where Seraph "betrayed" him and ceased doing his evil bidding. At some point he must have been reformed and convinced by the Oracle to seek the glowing door. Having reset the Matrix and realizing the jepordy his earlier uncontrolled actions could have had on the rest of humanity, he devoted himself to assisting all other potential Ones to take the path to the Architect. Seraph glows the color of the Mainframe, due to being inserted in it. He also fights Neo to a draw and says that in order to know someone you must fight them. A One could only be brought to a draw by a One. Thus the journey to the Architect is ment to be taken for a One to keep humanity from destruction, and so the machines can maintain peace in the Matrix. Seraph assistant other Ones and the Oracle, that they would not make his same earlier mistakes, believing this path is the only possible one for a beneficial outcome between men and machines.

Architect -

Quote:

(An anomoly) That if left unchecked might threaten the system itself, ergo those that refuse the program while the minority if unchecked would cause an escalating probability of disaster.

A person able to exert control over the matrix systems in an uncontrolled way could cause vast devistation and difficulty to machines, which could also put the rest of Humans to risk. Potential Ones therefor must have a set path to follow and others to guide them though, like the Oracle. The machines probably created the first Zion, and instilled its connection with the Oracle and those who would follow her. These free people could retain all new "hopefulls" unplugged from the system, and be directed toward a particular objective as determined by the machines. As soon as a person manifests an extreme power over the Matrix the machines launch an invasion of Zion to force the hand of the One. If the invasion suceeds & the One fails to reach the door, all Zion is destroyed all there is no one left to bring others out of the Matrix safely. Those plugged into the Matrix would continue to live as before. Those that self-actualize would simply be lost in the waste drains without ships to retrieve them. The machines would probably start Zion again to continue the set cycle. Again, another control mechanism.

Neo is ultimately still part Cyborg from his time in the matrix and in episode 3 is probably connected to the wireless mainframe system along with other machines. The squiddies in the invasion respond immediately to commands from the mainframe that they cease the attack as evidence that such a network exists. Neo's supernatural destruction of real world machines is more a matter of using the network to give destructive or overloading commands to machines he encounters. Much like modern cars that keep track of the state of their components, machines must have a fantastic network for tracking untis and monitoring the status of its conduits. This network of data is availible to Neo and he sees the code as a realistic impression of his world (The golden sight). Cypher says that after a while you don't even see the code, just blonde here and brunette there. So it is with Neo, it is not his eyes doing the looking but his comprehension of the data he recieves on the machine network. A similar experience happens while reading a good book. You are not even reading the words after a while, but visualising in your head the contents of the page. The Matrix is used to translating a persons thoughts into action while they are plugged in. So it is with the mainframe that neo thinks the thought, and it is translated into all the commands that must occur to carry that out in the system, including locating the unit in Neos vicinity and the means of overloading it or getting it to detonate prematurely. Neo touched source while with the Architect and has ultimate acess to the mainframe.

Neo knows that Smith is expanding like a virus through the Matrix, and that the Machines can not stop him. Indeed, Smith even takes over control of the new Agents, the machines greatest defensive tool. Smith will most likely overcome the mainframe systems as well, putting the machines in jepardy. To reinsert into the Mainframe will not guarantee the survival of those still inside. Neo is driven for an extreme love for Trinity and a desire to save her. He believes that there is hope for another solution and opts to refuse cooperation with the Architect. He excercises cause in saving Trinity, and then returns to the machine world to offer a deal to the machines. He will go inside back inside the Matrix to battle Smith, which would save those currently plugged in and solve the machines problems with smith. In exchange Zion will be spared and Neo submits himself to reinsert the needed coding to reset the Matrix.

Probably those that wish to be free of the Matrix will be allowed to join Zion, while the machines will still be able to run the Matrix for those choosing that route.

That is the summary of my look, I hope it helps. I am interested in your feedback.

I stopped reading when you stated that Seraph is a previous One. Anyway it's late.

I might read the rest tomorrow.

Welcome to the forum Daniel. I'm interested to hear what you have to say.

In the interest of time and relevance, I'll just select the extracts I think need to be commented on.

Quote:

The Oracle uses cookies and her red candy for the same aim. She promises Neo that after he eats the cookie he'll feel right as rain and will remember he doesn't believe in all that he's seen, among other things. Neo eats the cookie, but not the red candy from episode 2. Her aim is to keep tabs on the the Neo "hopefulls", and direct them on the quest towards the glowing door and the Architect.

An interesting angle on the food there. There does certainly seem to be a possible subtle suggestion that the cookies and the candy have some kind of an effect, but if this is the case, then the precise nature of that effect is not exposited.

Quote:

Yes, indeed. He's just a MacGuffin for the heroes, created by the machines to make them think that they are actually achieving something when they are, in fact, being sent on a fake mission. A distraction. Running around in circles.

Quote:

The gamble is that most will be killed off in this quest by Agents and so forth, but one might actually make it to the door and the Architect. The machines do not know who this will be but calculate that it will happen eventually.

The Architect talks about Neo being made "by design", so I think we can rule out the One being an unknown.

Quote:

The Architect is kept updated on the status of the Neo "hopefulls" by agents or others, and knows Neo by name upon his arival.

With all those screens at his disposal, being able to look anywhere and everywhere he so chooses, I don't think that the Architect needs anyone's help to know precisely what's going on.

Quote:

Neo is not the One by predetermination...

Again, I refer you to the comment made by the Architect pertaining to Neo being made "by design".

Quote:

Everyone is implanted with a code that will stop this system crash. But the One will be the person who actually made it to the glowing door & initiated the crash, and is the one who must decide then to stop it.

I don't think that "everyone is implanted with a code", else the Architect's explanation that Neo was created "by design" would be inconsistent.

Seraph is simply a firewall program, originally created for use in the machine mainframe (hence the gold glow), but has had his wings clipped (hence "Wingless"), and is now 'seeking work', as it were, in exile within the Matrix. It would also seem that his allegiances changed from that of the Merovingian to that of the Oracle for reasons that are never clearly explained, but seem to center around the Oracle having done something very important for him. My guess would be that she had saved him from deletion by enabling him to cross over to the Matrix.

Quote:

Seraph glows the color of the Mainframe, due to being inserted in it.

As I detail above, he has a gold glow because he was created in the machine mainframe, and that is also where his original function as a firewall existed. Judging by his name, I'd say he was protecting the highest levels of machine society.

Quote:

He also fights Neo to a draw and says that in order to know someone you must fight them. A One could only be brought to a draw by a One.

Not at all. Smith, with the power of the Oracle, essentially defeats Neo in terms of their physical contest at the end of Revolutions. Seraph is simply a very powerful firewall. Due to his pre-Wingless job description, he is one of the best. But he is not a previous One.

Quote:

Neo is ultimately still part Cyborg from his time in the matrix and in episode 3 is probably connected to the wireless mainframe system along with other machines.

Well, I think Neo is cyborg. "Part" has no real meaning, since a cyborg is an entity who is both organic and cybernetic. And Neo is quite obviously both (as, for that matter, are other pod-borns...except that Neo has been specially designed with a wireless connection to the Source / "machine mainframe").

Quote:

That is the summary of my look, I hope it helps. I am interested in your feedback.

Yeah, with the exception of Seraph being a previous One, I think you've nailed it.

The story itself is not really all that complicated. Once you've figured out the socio-political dynamics of these three 'worlds' (which is all exposited in the scenes with the Oracle, the Architect, Rama-Kandra and the Merovingian), the rest is pretty self-explanatory.
