from what I read, it appears he didn't sign off on it, or give it his seal of approval, but Silver bought the rights to it sometime back in the 80's, so basically he has no power, but I suppose he could try to raise a big stink if he wanted too.

Stephen King wasn't too happy with what Stan Kubrick did with The Shining.

Both films seemed to have been adjusted to reflect the focus of the directors involved.

I haven't seen the film version of the Shining but I've seen the TV version. Very nice!
