People in the matrix believe that their world is real or they think they know their world is real.

After the entire Trilogy is viewed, the scene where Morpheus explains "the truth" to Neo really takes on some interesting subtext.

Morpheus says, "You believe it's the year 1999, when, in fact, it's closer to 2199." But of course, we all know that it is closer to 2999-3199 from the Architect's speech.

Morpheus believes he is living in the free city created by the human resistance to fight the machines. He is not. We know that Zion was created by the machines. Morpheus has been living in a dream world. An agreed upon lie.

The name "Beatrix Kiddo" is also hinted at in an exchange between O-Ren and The Bride. They quote the long-running Trix cereal slogan "Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids". This plays on The Bride's real name, Beatrix Kiddo (rab-BIT TRIX...KIDS), and may also be a reference to the author of Peter Rabbit, Beatrix Potter.
