Is Zion just a matrix within the Matrix or is Zion "real"?

This question is flawed. We should be asking:

Is reality in any form all just an illusion in or is reality as we know it REAL and the matrix was just a dreamworld?

See: PLATO'S CAVE
See: PHILLIP K. DICK'S GNOSTIC WRITINGS

The big question posed to us, and not answered, by the Matrix trilogy is what I stated above, and I think it's mutually exclusive with the possibility of Zion being a matrix within a matrix because this implies a that a third reality would be THE REAL - and that is completely incongruous with the Gnostic Mishmash the trilogy is based on.

ie: matrix within a matrix is analagous to "all reality is just an illusion" rather than there being a really real, for real this time type of reality that we didn't see.

The question of Zion being still the matrix is almost irrelevant, but then again the message of the first matrix was what is real like Morpheus says to Neo “define real”.

In many ways this ends up being one off many messages to exist in all films of the trilogy, to quote the Animatrix episode Program “what’s real doesn’t matter what matters is how we live are lives”.

Another thing I find clever is how in the first film Neo and the rebels are trying to free humans from the matrix essential to destroy the matrix, then in revolutions Neo and Trinity both sacrifice there lives to save it.

Did trinity realize that Neo was going to the machine city to save the matrix? Why did neo want to save the matrix?

He is the son of God, the savoir of the people. He knew what he had to do and did it. Alexander the Great's journey included him seeing an Oracle in Egypt and she told him that he was the son of Amen-Re (primary god).

An apt comparison, since Alexander was convinced that he was the son of Zeus (or was it Apollo?). He also died while young.

Think back to the architect's speech. He needed to save the matrix to save all those that were plugged into the Matrix (i.e. all of humankind).
He also needed to save Zion, so he went to broker for peace.
