The way I see it, the machines won.

Why? The Matrix was not destroyed in the end, and a lot of humans probably decided to stay plugged in.

Also, even though Neo didn't really die, the peace between the machines and the humans is only temporary....eventually the machines will want more batterys, etc.

So, am I right/wrong?

there is no right or wrong. if the wachowskis put a definite answer into the conclusion of the trilogy it would be like them telling us the nature of reality and existence.. the point is that everyone has their own perspective, they wanted it like that.

You can't look at it as a win or loss for either side. Neo ended the war and saved the people of Zion and the human race. He ended the vicous cycle of control. Yet the humans were not completely free and the Matrix still existed. The W. Bros did not follow the typical formula, and the trilogy was better because of it.

It depends on how you look at it. If you see that the humans won than they won. If you see the machines lost than that is how it is. Lets look at it this way...

Power

Whoever has more power will always come out the victor although there are several forms of power the machines found it in themselves. They are pretty much emotionless creatures that can easily kill the physically weak humans that have protein based bodies and such. The machines were the ones that created the Matrix in the first place. If you see it that way than the machines have won.

However the machines need humans...we gave them purpose and why would they want to kill the species that created them. It would be like trying to kill God. You just can't do that. It also would seem that the two would need to learn from each other. After all, BOTH species are still young and have alot of maturing left ahead.

I see it that the Machines won too in a way. I don't think that they would want more batteries however. I think the Matrix was intended to both punish mankind while keeping it alive and making it grow up a bit and realize that you just can't try to kill a species that is ether equal to you or better.

All the machines wanted was peace and friendship Neo gave them that somewhat.
