My name is Marc Lammens and thank you for reading this!
I am busy trying to write a story on the Matrix. A story what I think could/ should have been the definitive sequel! I found this messageboard and figured maybe I can get some help? I am looking for ideas, not discussions wether robots and architects are good or bad, thnx. What I have written became a bit long, so appologies, but I hope you find it interesting!
ASK ANY QUESTIONS YOU MIGHT HAVE AND LET'S SHOW THE SLABACHOWSKIE(?) BROTHERS HOW IT SHOUD BE DONE!
Issues that need to be dealt with;
A) The Matrix needs to be DESTROYED so enslaved mankind can be saved.
B) MAIN CHARACTERS PERSONAL JOURNEY needs a satisfying conclusion . who is he? (Neo) what is his purpose/ function in story?
After reading ideas and opinions on this forum I don't think we should approach another Matrix story from 2nd an 3thd movie perspective because these movies don't add up. all the ideas in these films lead nowhere. so you keep going around in circles without finding an answer to all the questions raised. and I think it is impossible to fix or improve the plot of these movies. Even sand has more structure!
So here is what I THINK! To quote Morpheus; free your mind! Forget M1 and M2 even exist. Let's take M1 as a focuspoint to develop the story further.
Keep it simple, like part 1. I feel part 1 was sometimes a bit of an introduction to an idea. (The awakening of Neo, introduction of the matrix world and their enemies (agents) and presenting Neo as being the One. Or at least becoming the one.
Now it is time to expand the storyline that that M1 gave us but I think it can end only one way; The matrix will be destroyed and mankind saved.
If you dont like that hollywood ending, fine, but I feel it must end that way. We wouldnt like mankind being enslaved forever, do we? Unless we deserve it!
But no worries, I will never do in the Independence Day ending (all nations hugging, smiling, clapping and laughing like a big family because the enemy was destroyed. all of a sudden everybody loves their neigbour and even jews hug palestinians etc etc etc)
it doesnt work that way. I think the salvation of mankind is no laughing matter but a cause for concern. Like schwarzenegger already said in
Terminator 2, it is in our nature to destroy ourselfs. I am afraid we will never learn lessons from the past...
But I just wanted to make the point that, without being sentimental, rescuing mankind from imenent destruction is the BIGGEST plot you can think of for a movie/ story so why not go into that direction? I can't think of anything more ULIMATE; if mankind gets destroyed we'll all be dead! What can be worse than that?
Let's forget about the high tech gadgets, sci fi robots, hidden doors, keymakers and architects and focus on the 'human element' in the whole idea. Characters make or brake a story and their emotional actions and reactions are worth more than any robotfight or any architect talking djibris.
I have always felt, and still do, that Neo is the key to the entire story. First he awoke and was told he would become the one. I realy feel there is a religious element in this whole thing. Like Jezus could heal with his hands, so can Neo use his mental power to be stronger than the agents when he has to fight them.
So here are my ideas. First a bit of background;
1) What if the matrix has evolved / changed? Maybe it is now more of a representation of our own world and maybe there is a serious crisis. Like the threat of a nuclear war. (I mean, if enslaved humans live out an artificial live in their subconscious, why can't they make up anything they want? And being typical human wouldnt they mess it up?)
2) What if there was an oppertunity for the rebels to get hold of vital info that could destroy/ dismantle the Matrix?
Like Morpheus said in M1; the Matrix is still a world based on rules... So what if you can "switch it off" ? Of course in the Matrix you would be talking sofware related stuff (access codes etc)
Mabey someone in the Matrix knows these codes. an unplugged person. Could be someone completley unaware of their fate, like Neo. However, I think it should be someone with high intelligence (schoolteacher, political figure)
And what if this person is protected by agents? Because it would be their job to protect vital info regarding the matrix.
Now, as far as the story is concerned;
I like to see Neo being a mentor for people being released from the Matrix. At the end of M1 this seemed to be his next goal so let's go from there.
The introduction of this idea could be Neo's student having a kick ass fight with hundreds of Smiths. NOT IN THE MATRIX but as a training-programm!
But as Morpheus said in M1, sometimes unlugged people have trouble adjusting to their new reality... What if Neo's 'student' kills himself because he can't deal withe reality of his new existence?
Here is the first OBSTACLE created for our main character; doubt. Maybe Neo thinks he is not the one or not ment to be the one. Maybe he thinks he has failed in his duties of being the one.
Maybe inside the Matrix there is someone Neo can talk to. NOT the oracle, although she can refer Neo to a 'wise old man' she knows. This man can make Neo realise how important he is. The surprise; Neo is a direct descendent from Jesus. This will at least explain some of his abillities like mental strength and maby flying.
This is simplified of course. Pls don't think I will write; 'Hello Neo, you are Jesus!' That sounds idiotic. Suspense is far more important than explaining everything. Just refering to Neo being A DESCENDENT OF THE ORIGNAL ONE could be enough to raise your own questions.
This is Neo's story
In the meantime, the rebels get ready for the liberation of, what I would like to call, THE KEYMASTER. The person who knows the accesscodes to dismantle the Matrix Mainframe. (or what techterms you want to use) He or she is being held 'captive' in the place where the agents reside. some place we haven't seen yet in the Matrix, maybe a sort of Washington with a lot of white marble buildings? Of course Agent Smith would be in charge.
What I would like to happen is an all out assault on these 'governmentbuildings' by the rebels. I think this is an improvement on the lobbyscene in M1. Why stop at one lobby when you can destroy an entire city?
The rebels could use Neo's help but he's gone away to 'find himself'. He's still with the wise old man. (*NOTE*; here is where I have a small problem with the plot. I will explain in a moment. maybe anyone reading this can help?)
The entire idea of my story is that it's Neo's DESTINY to save mankind from destruction. This is what will be 'explained' to Neo by the wise old man. The survival of mankind must become a reality so Neo can be a leader for future mankind.
What I am talking about is RE-INCARNATION... different body, same spirit. Neo has the spirit of THE ONE (JC?) and the return of this/ his spirit is what can help mankind stay on the right track. Of peace and harmony. As I said before, it is our nature to destroy ourselfs so without a guide mankind will be lost (again).
So Neo will learn about his true self and help liberate mankind from the Matrix. The RACE AGAINST TIME ELEMENT here is that the rebels need to conclude their mission succesful before the Matrix is destroyed by a nuclear threat.
So basicly what we have is a similar kind of story as M1- I would like to think it can have the same philisophical approach as M1 - Bit of action at the end but the stakes are much higher this time. Neo's purpose in the story is explained and we have a MORE HUMAN approach to the whole idea.
Of course this is not finished, their just ideas. I have worked it out much more than written here but that would take to long to explain. ANY QUESTIONS YOU HAVE ON THIS I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR but pls remeber I am pretending to create the best Matrix story ever so if robots or architects are good or bad is not important. we need to discuss ideas!
*NOTE* Can you help with a plot-issue; The rebels are preparing an assault and Neo needs to help them. If he had to choose what to do first, 'find himself' or help the rebels, of course he would choose the latter. But then the story would be over in 3 pages.
I need to find an excuse for Neo not being able to come to the aid of the rebels straight away so that IN THAT TIME he can do his own thing.
any ideas?
