Nirvana and the Matrix

Nirvana is referred to (by Buddha) as “the unconditional element”, this is the final step on enlightenment, and in which you are no longer apart of the system. Therefore causality which is the only real truth to the un-enlightened soul is extinguished from the individual’s existence i.e. Neo is on the path on enlightenment, and his steps are symbolized at the end of Matrix, Reloaded, and Revolutions, when he discovers new abilities in each. Matrix – Neo realizes he is the One, symbolizing his realization of choice, and his first step into enlightenment. Reloaded – Neo discovers his gifts extend beyond the Matrix, symbolizing the second step into enlightenment, he has begun to realize that he cannot believe what his senses tell him and when he is blinded in a fight, he begins to see the truth “I see you”~ Neo (and what he sees is Smith who has "Possessed" the mind of Bane, he no longer sees the flesh of Bane, but the true image of Smith beneath the body). Revolutions – Neo realizes what he must do to defeat Smith (who Is the figure of Sin) for the 3rd and final step into Nirvana, this is when Neo becomes fully enlightened and he appears to die, much like the movie Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring when the old monk has reached his end, at which point his body is able to let go of his soul. (To all un-enlightened souls, this would appear as death, however it is so much more then we can comprehend at the level of consciousness we are at). There is a story about a man on a journey, who comes across an old dry and parched skull. “With sorrow he questioned and lamented the end of all things”. In the night the skull came to the man in a dream and said to him “You are a fool to rejoice in the entanglements of life.” The man in astonishment asked “if I could return you to your life, you would want that, wouldn’t you?” The skull who was stunned by the foolishness of the man replied “how do you know that it is bad to be dead?” This is the story of Chaung Tzu, and what this means is that the earthly mind cannot conceive of such thoughts of what is to come after life on earth. This is why the skull questioned Chaung Tzu. Once Neo gets through the challenges of the first 2 steps of Enlightenment, he begins to end the process which ends with this… “Why, Mr. Anderson? Why do you do it? Why get up? Why keep fighting? Do you believe you're fighting for something? For more than your survival? Can you tell me what it is? Do you even know? Is it freedom? Or truth? Perhaps peace? Yes? No? Could it be for love? Illusions, Mr. Anderson. Vagaries of perception. The temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. And all of them as artificial as the Matrix itself, although only a human mind could invent something as insipid as love. You must be able to see it, Mr. Anderson. You must know it by now. You can't win. It's pointless to keep fighting. Why, Mr. Anderson? Why? Why do you persist?” ~ Smith
Smith does not understand what Neo (Mr. Anderson) is fighting for, and he lists off all the most probable reasons of the human intellect, only the reason Neo fights and gets up is beyond what the human mind can comprehend and therefore Smith cannot understand why Neo continues to fight. However at this point Neo does not fully unserstand his reason to continue, but he knows he must so he responds with…“Because I choose to.” Neo then lands a devastating Megapunch, and Smith is appeared to be defeated, but he then gets up and begins to copy himself onto Neo, and only then does Neo understand what he must do, however he must not reveal his explanation, so that it may be fullfilled, and the "True One" is complete. This infuriates Smith and Smith copies himself onto Neo thus creating “The One”. The one could not be created until the 2 equals were merged and therefore the system could not balance itself out which results in a “system failure” (The Matrix). Neo and Smith have combined thus creating Yin-Yang which is the balance between good and evil. Smith represents the dark half Yin, and Neo creates the light half Yang. The matrix is then reset, and the programs stay within and all those plugged into the matrix are freed, and Peace is restored between man and machine, or from a biblical view God and Man.

Yin-Yang: Yin, the darker element, is passive, dark, feminine, downward-seeking, and corresponds to the night; yang, the brighter element, is active, light, masculine, and upward-seeking and corresponds to the day.

Satori,
I agaree with you that Neo in the end reaches Nirvana, but - as I understand it - there is one flaw to your theory:

Neo’s response is this…“Because I choose to.” So how does this fit in with Neo reaching Nirvana? Well the quote in itself is actually a simple answer, Neo understands what he must do, however he must not reveal this nor can he explain “why” he persists in words to Smith. This infuriates Smith and Smith copies himself onto Neo thus creating “The One”.

After having said "because I choose to", Neo can land his superpunch, momentarily knocking Smith off balance, but the fight still goes on, and Smith eventually knocks Neo off his feet.

Therefore,... when Neo says "because I choose" he still doesn't understand.
Only after Smith has uttered to him the Oracle's words "everything that has a beginning has an end", does he understand:

DEM: "We don't need YOU; we need... NOTHING"

Not his choice as an "I" leads to enlightenment, but the realisation that he truly is not an "I", but the ALL (no-thing -> nothing) -> it is inevitable -> death of the "I"

-> true free will is understanding/perceiving one's true nature

to me that is as the DEM is saying that they dont need/want either smith nor neo, they need them as one. The One, humans and machines saved and holy

I dont have time for this shit.

But why?

It is my understanding that Smith is an expression of Neo's sense of "I". Self-consciousness (->"know thyself") does NOT equal "I"-consciousness. The "I" stands in the way of a realisation of one's true nature.

-> as long as Neo holds on to his "I" (-> because I choose to),.... Smith won't cease to exists.

In the end, Neo understands that one can conquer the "I" not by fighting it, but by giving it up -> no more struggling -> complete stillnesss of the mind,.... to give way to one's true nature.

Keep what faith?
P.S.
Nice philosohpy on the movie. Now that I read your saying on the Matrix, I understand it more and more better.

To deny our own impulses, is to deny to very thing that makes us human.
