[Enter The Matrix]
Sparks: "And for the record, when I cart your bodies back to Zion, do you prefer cremation or the gardens?"
Ghost: "Sparks, your faith in us remains a source of personal inspiration."
Sparks: "Well, I am what I am and I do what I can."
Niobe: "Then, can you shut up and hit the button?"
Sparks: "Your wish, Captain, my Captain, is my keystroke, colon, double backlash, execute, command."

The Level/System Theory
As well I noticed Alex talked about Levels, I have actually come up with my own theory of levels, although it may not be in correspondence with his level theory if you will, however my theory of levels is the theory that we all as humans have abilities that are unknown to ourselves. Basically what i mean is that we are for example we are on level 9 and we are trying to get to level 10. Level 9 for example is what we know now, the power of "choice", we do not have Absolute Choice because no matter which way you look at it (religious or not) there are hierarchy's, and they do have a higher level of choice then we do. Whether that hierarchy be the Government or God, we have the "choice" to do good or evil, to murder, steal, or to love and care for, however our destiny's (from a religous perspective) is pre-determined. Because God knows all you are bound to "Fate", therefore you do not have "absolute choice/control". However because we do have some choice we are on a level system. Morpheus has more options of choice then the "networked plugged-in people", so Morpheus would be a level 10, but Neo has even more options or choice then Morpheus because he is the One so he would be a level 11. However this is still not "Absolute Choice/Control" because no matter whom you are or where you are from (Matrix, or Zion), to beat the System you must create a new System. "The Matrix" is a System that controls everyone and everything linked to the network, however Zion is fighting against this System, but in doing so they have formed a system by telling Neo to go and bring peace, he is now part of Zion's System, and therefore does not have "Absolute Choice" he could say "no screw you", but then he would face the consequences of the machines destroying him. Like the Red pill and the Blue pill or the scene when he has the choice to go with Trinity in the car or get out of the car and head back to his life he knows his "comfort zone", if he had absolute choice, he would literally be "God". As far as the Systems theory goes, until us as human’s experience True Enlightenment we will never become truly "unplugged" from the world we know.

Just to add to my Theory, i would like to throw in the Merovingian's point on Causality. Causality says it all, as far as the Merv goes, he is enlightened he realizes that the only reality is truth, and that the only truth is Causality. Like i said before "neo could say no screw you" (as in i will not fight for Zion) but then he would have to deal with the affect/consequences. "Causality. There is no escape from it, we are forever slaves to it. Our only hope, our only peace is to understand it, to understand the `why.' `Why' is what separates us from them, you from me. `Why' is the only real social power, without it you are powerless." ~ Merovingian

Following Orders
Just as Smith says in Matrix Reloaded "We're not here because we're free. We're here because we're not free" This is very true, and it deals with the Systems. Like i said in my theory Zion is a system trying to defeat another system, they are what they are fighting against, Neo is taking orders "...since I have seen how good you are at following orders..." Neo is being told what to do and he is doing so. on the contrary he could say no, but again this deals with Causality. Just as i said we cannot escape the matrix we live in until we learn how to function without a system, and to do so we must first become enlightened.

i liked the first post of this thread the most i must say.

with the levels i reckon that you are on the right track with neo having a higher level of consienceness than say morpheus..

but i reckon that the matrix would most likely be like a level 0.
and the real world would be like a level 1.

because the matrix is not real, so i give it 0

the 1 for the real world could even stand to say that there is only 1 real world. the real world being it..

i will go into the reason for this..

if there was to be matrix's within matrix's then the matrix would have to be the bottom level.

but at the other end of the scale. the top matrix would have to be eternal for the matrix's within it or below it to survive.

because if the top matrix dies. then all the others below it or within it would be destroyed..

so the ideas on this subject go along with what i have to say now..

in revolutions whichever way you look at it, it may be hinting at the idea of there being matrix's within matrix's.

but if the matrix within a matrix was true, then the architect would have to be the top scale god pretending to be a machine in the so called real world.

but my belief is that there is no place higher than say heaven after you die in the real world.

the movies say that neo is god.. so saying that he has a higher concienseness than morpheus is most probably true

I see what you mean, but really the numbers where just to provide an example, however i wouldnt go as far to say that in the Matrix there is no level of choice. This is because inside the matrix you are still able to commit the acts of murder, theft, or not so you do have some choice. However With this being the case i would say that the highest level of choice (this being level 1) would be something like level 4, because inside the matrix you are level 1 outside the matrix in Zion level 2 Neo level 3 (because he is the one, almost like god but not quite there are still many things he cannot achieve that God can) and level 4 would be god, however like everything there is a counter-argument, in this case it would be that there is an infinte amount of levels, because if the theory of "MwM" (Matrix within Matrix) is true, then there is a never ending cycle of "Matrix's" however the point of "only god has Absolute Choice" still stands.
