[Matrix Reloaded]
Morpheus: "Does the Commander have a plan for stopping 250'000 sentinels?"
Niobe: "A strategy is still being formulated."
Morpheus: "I'm sure it is."

I've been thinking (because I have way too much time on my hands)... anyway, concerning the quote - everything that has a beginning has an end - I've come up with a theory... Rolling Eyes

If the Matrix is based on what humans believed at the end of the 20th century, then hypothetically:

- humans believe that in a few million/billion years, the sun will... die? This could mean the end of the matrix. Ofcourse, machines will be able to outlive the end, but if the humans all believe they have died, then they would die in the real world, leaving the machines no source of power....

- humanity is slowly polluting the world, leading to global warming. This could also lead to dire consequences, leaving the machines once again without power

Fate seems a recurring point in the matrix - it is explored and opinions are changed and contradicted... if the machines are slowly guiding humanity to a certain point, why would they guide them to the end of humanity? Do they want to delete all of humanity and start afresh? Or are they sick of running this world?

Another thing that struck me as odd - why give the humans any kind of conciousness - the matrix or otherwise? Why not simply leave them lying there... or do people have to be contained in the matrix?

Also - heaven, or the idea of it. Once you die, is there a heaven? Whether you die in the matrix or in your pod? Hmm...

And I had another point... but I've forgotten it... hang on... nope... its gone... ah well... Smile

There is no spoon.

Isnt the matrix supposed to be reset after the One does his work, that could explain the whole global warming thing. O and maybe the robots need the humans brain functions and everyday thoughts to survive...never know

Humans produce more power when their minds are active. So, by entertaining us, they are getting more bang for their buck.

While Fate seems to be a recurring theme in this movie, I think you will find that it is not really about Fate. In Enter the Matrix, the Oracle says that the world will end unless Neo can save it. Well, that is a direct contradiction to Fate. Fate would say that the world is going to end and there is nothing anyone can do about it...or Neo will save the world and there is nothing anyone can do about it. So, if the movie is about Fate then it is going to be pretty boring. Also, remember Neo doesn't believe in any of that Fate crap...the oracle tells him he wasn't the One and he proved her wrong. So, another contradiction to fate. Anyway...Smith said in the original Matrix that they designed the matrix for the Peak of their Civilization...That means that they designed it for the Peak of their minds...again with the more bang for your buck idea about generating energy.

When the humans die they are melted down and used as liquid feed to help grow more humans. Morpheus says that in the first movie. Of course there is no digital heaven.

You posted does raise a good question which i'd like to post as well as try to answer.

What about people dying in the Matrix? Murders? I assume that when a person in the Matrix is murdered they are reprogrammed with a new life and born again as a child inside the Matrix.

What about the year? It was in the folder that Agent Smith has when Neo was born so obvious there is a digital timeline in this virtual world. If the Hanann guy in Zion has been outta the matrix for 40 years and spend his first 11 years in the Matrix then obvious the Matrix when back as far as 1950 or so. Someone posted about how the people realised during this period wouldn't know how to use computers and such so it didn't really make sense...

The answer is simple... remember the construct program.. even if someone was released from the Matrix during the year 1950 (in the matrix) they could still go into the construct and learn how to use all the equipment in Zion.

Either that, or it never really changes. In M1, Morpheus (or Smith?) says it was designed to be at the height of our empire, the turn of the century. So it probably stays more or less the same and everyone just lives their lives out in it. If someone did come up with an invention, it's probably controlled by the machines.

Doesn't body temperature go down when a person is in a coma. The intake of oxygen goes down which would be a plus for the machines, but heat/fusion being the main energy source I don't think machines would take this option.

Other stimuli while in the matrix might increase body temp like excercising or sex.

I`ve worked a lot with epilepsy and one way of getting energy from humans on an adequate scale would be to induce seizures or a fever like state. Considering the pressure of acting as plugged in memory for all the things and programmes in the matrix, it is quite likely that most matrix folk are "running hot" a great deal of the time (perhaps symbolised by living in a city type business environment). As with any energy source, people could be worked and then rested, though even with this, they would burn out pretty rapidly, leading fast lives. Time in the matrix cant move on that much, if at all (it seems to be consistently 1999) so this may be a result of the energy extraction process.

well when i hear that saying "everything that has a beginning has an end."
i think that they are refering to Neo ... He started as a sibbling in the Matrix, now he is and adult in the Matrix Reloaded, and he will be nothing but a story in the Matrix Revolutions. In each movie he grows more exprience but making him less of a human in the matrix. making him more of a machince with a concious. Neo is born in The Matrix, Neo is made to be the one in The Matrix Reloaded, and Neo will (probably) die and live in the Matrix with a consious in The Matrix Revolutions ...

well that just my thoughts .... Rolling Eyes
