I came to this theory after watching the scene with the architect. "Your 5 predecessors were, by DESIGN,(as if to say that they were a written program) based on a similar predication(Based on the man who freed the first humans and told them about the matrix as explained by morphues in the first matrix) - a contingent affirmation that was meant to create a profound
attachment to the rest of your species(Meaning the program was meant to reflect an attachment to the human race just like a human), facilitating the function of the One.
I think the reason why the other predecessors choose the other door is because they were not giving a choice as profound as neo's. Neo had to choose between the people of zion or the love for trinity, his believe that he could save trinty even when the architect told him that there was nothing he could do to stop her from dying, Neo was face with this very decision in the first matrix. He had to choose wheather to let morphues get the plug pulled on him or go and save him even when people told him it was impossible. A computer program can be created to reflect everything a human does but what it can't create is emotions like love. The Orcale say in the very first matrix that "being the one is like being in love, you just know it balls to bones". I think it neo's human emotion the make him different from his predecessor
I also think that the old guy in the train station may be a previous "one" who just after returning to the source pick the people to rebuild zion, but just never really went all the way through with it, just like Agent smith didn't return when he was destroyed by neo. I think that is why the old guy know about the war and why in the revolution trailer he was able to punch neo into the wall. He has the same strenght as the one he just made the wrong choice in picking the door.
I also think that the five previous one where created so that when the 6th one would meet the architect, he would already know which path the one would choose. I look at it this way the first five "ones" where trail and error for the architect, i think that he put the five other in the same situation to choice to return to the source or to pick something else(what that was we will never know),but that something else may have been something only a real human would have an attachment to, but seeing how the five others where computer program, the other choice was not a major decision to them and they choose the other door because like the architect said the neo 5 predecessor were design "based on a similar predication a contingent affirmation meant to create a profound attachment to the rest of your species. Which lead me to think, that if the previous one were human then why would they be design to have an attachment to humans, it's only natural for us(human) to be attach to other humans. So when neo came to the architect he(the architect) already had this idea in mind that neo would choose the door to return to the source, but he never prepare for the human emotion such as love to be that strong that neo would choose the other door. I think that since the others were programs their thinking were logical meaning that the saftey of the entire human race is more logical then the other choice, but neo a human thinking is more emotional. The architect said even before neo choose the door that he "know what you are going to do, don't we? Already, I can see the chain reaction - the chemical precursors that signal the onset of an emotion, designed specifically to overwhelm LOGIC and reason - an emotion that is already blinding you from the simple and obvious truth.." And when neo choose the door to trinity the architect had to said that "Hope. It is the quintessential HUMAN delusion, simultaneously the source of your greatest strength and your greatest weakness." that was the second time he mention about neo being human. JUST A THEORY
