A yet unconsidered possiblity about the Merovingian

(Sorry if this post is kinda long... I get very wordy when Im therorizing. )

Ive seen lots of discussion of the Merovingian being a former one, and Persephone being his trinity, something which I dont agree with, for two reasons:

1) As pointed out before, the Architech informs Neo that his connection to his species is more specific that previous ones "vis a via love". This (IMO) shoots down the possiblity to Persephone being a Trinity type character.

2) Even if the Architech lied to Neo (which I dont think he did), the importance of Trinity being in love with the One would be greatly reduced if it had happened before. Trinities love "resurrected" Neo in the first film, and his love for her was the motivation for picking the door he did (which no other One had done before). These actions highlight how important the love is in this movie, so if it had previously happened it would really shoot down some very important scenes and themes, something I dont think the brothers would do.

Now, to me, that seems conclusive, however there is a problem. Persephone tells Neo that the Merovingian was alot like him when they first came to the Matrix. Also, since the Merovingian makes various refrences to Neos predecessors, he obviously played some important role in the resolution of at least one previous matrix. There is some type of link between Neo's quest and what the Merovingian has done to get where he is.

So what was that I asked myself... then I had an idea. Idea

What if the Merovingian was a former agent? And not just any agent either. If we look at the first film, the most important relization for Neo is when he is resurrected and truly knows what he can do, and he jumps into and explodes Agent Smith. Now I think we can safely assume that previous One's also had moments of revaltion in which they reliezed they could beat the agents. So, what if, the Merovingian was one of these former agents that were defeated by a former one?

Consider some of the evidence for him possibly being a former one in a different light. In the discussion of the possibility on the main site its seems that many of these firmer ideas could also point to him being a former Smith type anamoly.

I could get deeper into the reinterpretation of the evidence to suggest that he is a former agent, but Im curious to get others thoughts first.

Why? Meros connection to the human species is also very specific. Although not face-to-face but face-to-faces. Just think about how Perse and Mero run around seeking for love and sex.
By "specific" the Architect could mean "projected heavily onto just 1 person"

...as was the importance of Neo when the Architect told him, that he is the 6th anomaly.

Why? Maybe he meant predecessors in the current Matrix.

Hey, I have an idea.
Neo was Morpheus' 6th candidate for the One. The others were killed by agents. Since Smith did probably meet Neos "predecessors" (= candidates) and killed them maybe the Merovingian meant these predecessors (when he was a former agent).

which is why the Merovingian and Pershephone couldnt be a Neo-Trinity pair. the previous ones all had a connection, but Neos is diffrent because of the love of a woman.

if it were true that pershephone played the role of Trinity in a previous emergence of the integral anamoly then Mero would have to love her like Neo loves Trinity. And that just doesnt work out with the facts presented to us.

I guess I meant different Matrices, not as in complete programming overhauls, but as the Architect counts them. From the "emergence of one intergral anomoly to another".

At some point he was involved with "the One". That seems pretty sure. I suppose we will find out soon... but ultimately I dont think he will be a former "one" but some force (either independantly or as an agent of the system) who was working against the One.

So are you saying that when the Mero was the One, he would have stuck around at the rave/party/orgy instead of getting it on with his Trinity? LoL

lol, well, no Im saying that it disproves the Merovingian being the One. Remember Persephone said something about once knowing what love felt like... so it seems unlikely that they would make a Neo-Trinity pair.

and I mean, come on, Persephone is hot Shocked In the unlikely event that the Merovingian turns out to be a former one, he probably failed cause he was too busy having wild crazy zion sex Very Happy

I agree with this, because in the first screen play it goes on about how Cypher watched them all die (the previous 'ones' that Morpheus found). When the Merovingian starts shooting @ Neo and fails to do anything he says: 'ok, you have some skill'
won't the other ONES have this power? So I agree, the predecessors are Morpheus' dudes.

Maybe the Mero and Persiphone's problem is that they arn't sure what love is in the first place. If they came from a much older version of the matrix (possibly Eden making Mero = Adam and Persiphone = Eve).
God kicked Adam and Eve out of Eden because they "ate the forbidden apple". Maybe Mero never really loved her in the first place. Persiphone might have thought she loved the Merovingian, but her view of love doesn't seem normal either: the woman goes around kissing people like Ghost, Niobe and Neo trying to find samples of love. Maybe the only love they know is physical.

Just cause they ate the apple doesn't mean they were in love like Neo and Trinity obviously are. Mero/persiphone's physical relationship didn't last as long as they hoped which is why Persiphone tells Trinity that "...such things are not meant to last."
