»Why does Smith call Oracle "mom"?«

In Revolutions, Smith calls Oracle "mom".

Most believe that Smith's statement is in relation with the Oracle being the mother of the Matrix.

This came from Reloaded, when the Architect talks about the "mother" of the Matrix, Neo asks him "the Oracle?", and the Architect says "Please..."

But "Please" does not necesarily mean "yes". I agree with others in this forum that the Oracle may not be the mother of the Matrix.

I believe that Smith calls the Oracle "mom", because she created him.

The Oracle says that her purpose is to unbalance an equation, while the Architect's purpose is to balance it.

Neo is human, but some "process" altered his conscioussness, and made him the sixth anomaly, known in the false Prophecy as the One.

The One is suppossed to return to the Source, temporarely disseminate his code to reinsert the prime program. He reloads, "resets" the Matrix, for another cycle. In other words, he balances the equation.

Smith is Neo's "negative", his opposite. Since Oracle's purpose is to unbalance equations, and Smith calls her "mom", I believe that she created Smith to be the opposite of Neo.

Yes I agree, actually I think that the Oracle is rather the daughter of the Architecte, she's the program in charge for making the choice possible.

The mother may be (I insist on the "may") Persephone. It is said on Mxo that she's an intuitive program and that she was created after the first Matrixes and that the old intuitive program was replaced when Persephone did a beter job (maybe when she found the choice solution).

That would aslo explain why The Merovingian is so powerfull, Persephone must know a lot of secrets about the Matrix's functionning.

-yea thats why when neo chose to reload the matrix each time in his previous encounters with the Architecte the problem remained,leading him to redo the same events.
Neo(+) is only half of the equation, smith(-) the other half.
they joined together at the end of revolutions to cancel each other out to reach zero, completing the equation, leading to an anomaly free matrix. thus the cycle was broken.

the war ended because neo found the middle way (path) he didn't before.
it was the humans who started the war in the first place by not allowing the machines to join society as beings in the world. so the machines revolted and managing to enslave a portion of the human race, using them as energy.
but to keep them from dieing to quickly they created the matrix to stimulate there minds so they would grow and complete there function before there natural death.
thus creating the matrix. an equation based system.
opposites (+)(-)=0 ...(other infomation in the star system)
neo was the one destined to end the war between the humans and the machines because he -chose- to be the anomaly at birth, within the matrix.
now neo a human and smith a machine combined, there no longer has to be a war.
in combining both human/machine non has to be destroyed. your left with a hybrid.
the solution to all things, finding the middle way (path).

But why would the Oracle create Smith before The One appears within the matrix? There wouldn't be an equation to begin with.

Here is how I see why of all The Ones Neo was one to stop the war the way he did instead of reloading Matrix by entering the Source.
At certain point Architect shows to Neo on TVs various images of overall humanity and says: "It is interesting reading your reactions. Your five predecessors were, BY DESIGN, based on a similar predication, a contingent affirmation that was meant to create a profound attachment to the rest of your species, facilitating the function of the One. While the others experience this in a general way, your experience is far more specific vis-a-vis love."
That clearly means that The One's code that is implemented into Neo is also a part of his psyche, or at least manifests itself in his psyche. Thus, Neo was DESIGNED to profoundly care for humanity and The One's code was determing only the strength of that emotion - after all, Architect says: "...the process has altered your consciousness..." (I want to point out that I am NOT saying that Neo is determined and defined by his The One code - he is completely human in every aspect: he is free, he has a choice, and even more than most of others because with Oracle's help he comes to understanding of that nature of himself).
But, as we know, his code was interupted when he destroyed Smith, the part of this code was left in Smith. So, this code could not function properly any longer and what Neo was designed for could not be carried on any more. Thus, Neo could be allowed to have "experience far more specific vis-a-vis love" instead of overwhelming care for humanity what finally led him through door back to The Matrix.
And this automatically explains why everything happened to Neo (why unique problem with Smith appeared in Neo's time AND why Neo himself was an unique One, different from his predecessors who all behaved in the same way when faced with Source) - it was most certainly not some lucky coincidence but pure causality (it would seem that Merovingian was right after all ) since actual Smith-problem resulted in both Smith's and Neo's change.
