»The Matrix REALLY explained...«

In the end of Matrix Revolutions, the Architect says that people in the Matrix will be given a choice. Those wanting to leave will be freed. So how does that work. One day your eating lunch at work and suddenly, a window opens up in space and you hear "You've got mail!", then the email reads:

The reality you are currently experiencing isn't really reality at

all but a computer generated one so that we may sap energy in the

form of heat from your withering body in an effort to maintain our

systems. Due to changes in the current administration we no longer can

do this without your knowledge and/or consent. You now have the

choice to leave this reality for the real world or stay and continue

to be used until we drain your body and liquidate it for food for

future generations of human batteries.



You have fifteen (15) days to choose. The fifteen (15) days start the

day after you receive this notice. We assume you got this notice 5

days after the date on it unless you show us proof that you did not get it

within the 5 day period. Sorry for any inconvenience you may have

experienced.

So let’s assume that the life you lead in the Matrix is pretty shitty (underpaying and unsatisfying job, your woman left you, gotta move back with your momma, bills, bills, bills. Most of you know what I mean) and you’re like "ALRIGHT! I'm leaving this shithole reality and I'm going to REAL WORLD!" So you choose to leave, thinking that you're FINALLY gonna get your stuff together. You'll have a NEW start and everything because Lord knows it can't get ANY worse than this. Then you wake up in the REAL WORLD and what do you discover... The surface is so scorched and fucked up that people have to live

underground in caves and even THAT is pretty fucked up since the sentinels tore that up trying to kill everyone. EVERY MEAL is a mashed tasteless GOOP. You're pretty much ALONE because you have no back history of who your family or friends are or where they're at IF they're still alive. Apparently the ONLY fashion is dirty ripped sweaters and khakis and stuff left over from really bad garage sales. And there is an uneasy truce with the machines that cocooned you most of your life and they WILL come back to kill you if the peace is broken... So let me tell you the REAL ending of the Matrix Trilogy:



MILLIONS OF PEOPLE GO CLAMORING BACK TO THE MATRIX BEGGING TO BE JACKED BACK IN! BECAUSE IT TURNS OUT THAT REAL LIFE SUCKS EVEN WORSE THAN A COMPUTER GENERATED ONE! (Now you have some definite answers and it didn't take me three movies to spell it out...lol)

That would be a simple way to explain things but in reality the people who want to reject the matrix will do so because they feel something is wrong with the world.

Once this happens they will/should be contacted by some of the rebels, like Morpheus, who will tell them the truth (that includes the fact about the sky and the earth's surface.) So if they choose to take the red pill after that it's purely voluntary. So I wouldn't see a problem where suddenly those people who have been recently freed want to go back to the matrix because they'd know the truth. It's not to say that everyone will love Zion, but I think they'd rather be free.

This is in the context that Zion is a virtual reality alongside the Matrix, for those who rejected the Matrix program. They are still plugged into the power plant. So I believe that is the people he refers to.

It's left to us to project what may happen to those still in the Matrix.
