The Matrix Online (MxO) Clans - Hmmm, I'm not convinced

OK, there are a couple of posts in here now from people recruiting clan members for the upcoming Matrix Online Game (thematrixonline.com...) and good luck to them I say. Thumbup

But I have to wonder why.

The benefits of a clan (or ship or team or whatever) are mainly social, getting to know like minded people, exchanging ideas and tactics, working as a team etc.

However, timezones and the international nature of the Internet could limit accessibility from some people - Your clan are tackling a mission while you're at school, work or in bed.

But perhaps more importantly, we don't know how it will work out in the game. Snippets of information hint at a system where goals and objectives vary from character to character.

What happens if the game launches and you discover that your characters goals are not the same as your clanmates? What if they are opposed.

Another worry is that (after visiting a few clan sites and reading posts on a number of forums,) some clans are effectively setting out to establish some kind of dominance. I've seen clan sites with space already allocated for lists of "friendly" and "enemy" clans.

I've seen other online games suffer from "rogue clans" who's (clan) self interest starts to get in the way of peoples enjoyment of the game

Perhaps the thing that troubles me the most though is that these fans of the matrix often cite certain values from the films;

- Free your mind
- Rebelling against authority
- The individual against the state
- Fight systems of control
etc.

Then effectively self compartmentalise into the clan structure, under the authority of their "council" serving their mini-society. Urmygod

It seems he first things people do when being freed from the matrix is to join a social club. Confused

I suppose it's safety in numbers and all that, the individuals desire to "fit in" or "belong".

Too many risks playing the lone wolf eh?

** Rant over **

When it comes out (months away yet) I'll be the one wandering around without the enterage.

Well, to be honest with you I'm wondering if it's such a good idea myself.
I've visited certain clan forums and they seem to be deserted.
I think I'll be going-it-alone myself, so please don't hurt me if we bump into each other... Cool

Are you kidding, I'd probably say something like

"Whoah, I thought you were a guy"

And you'd probably say something like

"Most Guys do"

well i dont know about other stuff but the main reason why one should be in a team is because they help you with your goal and you also help others w theirs... all for one, one for all 3Tooth

In this hall of mirrors, built by liars, we are but a pale reflection of ourselves...

Surely in joining a clan it's more like "a few for one and one for a few"

Well for one not everything in the matrix is as appears, and forum posting is not the only way to cumminicate, for example my guild uses Mirc. Chatting is a big way, and sometimes takes place of forum posting.

You too... I want all of the above too.
I'd love to meet an Agent, be trained by an Agent and work as an Agent, however, with Smiths demise I'd have to find a way to get the Machines to programme Smith back into the System; all the really nasty traits removed of course.

From what I know about the game, you can be either a program or rebel. Being an agent ( if they put it in) would be the hardest thing to achieve if they did put it in. But they'd wanna keep it fairly even, they wouldn't put in anything kick arse, like an Agent or Virus or One.

Befor I make a complete arse out of myself I'll check out the site.

I WANT ANIMATRIX 2! I WANT THE REVOLUTIONS DVD!

Oh, so you CAN be a program? SCORE!

*plans to buy MXO to work for the Merovingian* And here I thought I'd wind up a flesh-traitor... ah, well, business is business.

Now, the big question: play as a male, or play as a female? Decisions, decisions.

And three other questions: what platform is MXO for, how much is the game, and how much is a subscription?

Kids! Bringing about Armageddon can be dangerous. Do not attempt it in your home.

I can understand programs and humans existing, but I wouldn't have thought there'd be any need for agents anymore. Maybe agents come out when people start interfering with things they shouldn't. Like if humans and programs start using the maintenance corridors for example?

I mean the agents aren't supposed to be stopping people from leaving the matrix now are they?

What's with these stupid "council wants advice" things - when the 'connect here' bits are just links to the page you are already on?

im kinda confused, i thought u could be a zionist, a machinist, or work for the merovingian. but on the site, from what ive seen its zionist, machinist, and exile. and a pic of a zionist looks like, well, neo or morpheus or trinity, and the machinist pic is of an agent, but the exile pic looks like a zombie. why is that? is it because exile programs are sometimes like vampires, werewolves, or ghosts?

I read that you can do the game solo but some missions would be a lot easier with a group. It makes me think of Star Wars Galaxies. I played Galaxies for about 6 months and liked it but after a while I hated having to do certain missions with groups of 10 people or more. Just wish the Matrix doesn't go down the same road because I do not want to have to find a large group to do certain missions. Just wish you could do it on your own and join a group for fun if you choose to do so.
Something else I wanted to know is if a human player can just attack you at will or if they have to challenge you first?
