This popped out in the question forum. The moment neo didn't go back to the source, the arcitect said if he didn't he would crash the matrix and kill humanity. But it's something he never did before. The arcitect said himself that he is frustrated by failure in his first attempt at 'code'. First the pefect world, than the failure to see to give people a choice. So, maybe this new equation in the matrix is really the cause for Smith's reign on the matrix, then able to use that power for the real world. I am aware that we have not discussed in detail the arcitect's promise that he would destroy 'crash' the matrix.

It is as simple as this: when he reffered to a "cathaclismic system crash" he was refering to Smith and his doings. I'll explian. If Neo's there, Smith's there(the're the same but opposites), so the arch now needs to eliminate neo(in the source) so he can eliminate the rouge program virus:smith. if he does not go to the right door(the salvation of zion) the anomaly will still be in the system, thus smith the same. And if smith is as a rouge program virus, he will eventually consume ALL HUMANS/PROGRAMS within the matrix, thus making a "cathaclismic system crash".

No. Smith is the result of the equation, neo's opposite. This is unclear so we just have to assume there's something wrong with neo's equation, (who knows). Smith was going to take over the machine world. How could the arcitect's weapon take over the machine world, killing it? The arcitect thought he could smith under control. He failed at making a good 'crash' system. The choice wasn't made by neo until the white room.

That is incorrect. Let’s take a closer look at exactly what The Architect said:

The Architect: "The function of the One is now to return to the source, allowing a temporary dissemination of the code you carry, reinserting the prime program. After which you will be required to select from the matrix 23 individuals, 16 female, 7 male, to rebuild Zion. Failure to comply with this process will result in a cataclysmic system crash killing everyone connected to the matrix, which coupled with the extermination of Zion will ultimately result in the extinction of the entire human race."

- OK I want to emphasize the first sentence stated there. "The function of the One is now to return to the source, allowing a temporary dissemination of the code you carry, reinserting the prime program."

- Notice how The Architect does not speak in a direct manner. He says now the function of the One - meaning The One in general. He is telling Neo the rest of the function of The One. If The Architect had said "Now the function of you..." - Then it would be directed to what is going on with Neo right now and Smith. But he did not say that, The Architect there is just telling Neo the rest of The Prophecy or the rest of The Function of the One. This is what he said to every other One. The Prophecy is used to get The One to the source; The Architect is used to tell the One what to do from there. The Architect told Neo what he told every other One.

The Architect: "Failure to comply with this process will result in a cataclysmic system crash killing everyone connected to the matrix, which coupled with the extermination of Zion will ultimately result in the extinction of the entire human race."

- That sentence is not directed to the cause of what Smith will do to the system if Neo doesn't cooperate with The Architects directions to recycle the system. Understand?

and smith was going to destroy the real world, and the matrix, but, this does not stop the arcitect in any means from crashing the matrix. Funny how things work out isn't it.
