I'm trying to find music similar to the great chorus type music heard when Neo fights Smith both in the second and third movies. It sounds almost like a type of cathedral singing or a type of russian opera. Any names of songs would be great either from or outside of the series. Or the type of music at that would be helpful.

I'm sorry to say I don't know who composed the music for those scenes, however, you should check out music by the group E.S. Posthumus; they definitely have an orchestral blend to them.
Btw, is anybody familiar with Massive Attack, they are a phenomenal group, if you like chilling to some laid back tunes late at night writing philosophy papers and such. Massive Attack also plays the song 'dissolved girl' which is playing during the opening scene of "The Matrix" when Neo is at his computer with the headphones on.
Better yet, is anybody familiar with Sigur Ros, mum, mogwai etc... This is the music that really spawns deep seated emotion and really spiritual sounds.
I also, would like to know. What group, composer, song or whatever, is playing when you're at the main menu section on the DVD of Revolutions? It definitely has an awesome orchestral/opera feel to it.

Oooh, I know, I know! Don Davis and/or Juno Reactor. *huggles her Reloaded and Revolutions CDs*

Sounds cool, I'll have to give them a go.

Don Davis again -- it's a mix of Neodämmerung or Navras and Spirit of the Universe.

Spirit of the Universe is the bit with the boy soprano; the rest could be either Neodämmerung or Navras. *pauses to be envious of the boy's range*

As for finding similiar sounds...

I recommend Duel of Fates from the Phantom Menace soundtrack. John Williams is a god. Another good song is O Fortuna from Carmina Burana. I'm also fond of Ride of the Valkyries (yes, I listen to Classical Music. I'll listen to everything at least once), Handel's Hallelujah Chorus, March of the Toreadors, and Anvil Chorus.

Also, some anime soundtracks will have similar music. I can't think of any off the top of my head, save Messiah -- the theme song to Angel Sanctuary. That's less operatic, though -- more of a hymn-type sound, I think.

the song playing in the background of the main menu screen on Matrix (first) dvd sounds A LOT like The Eyes of Truth by Enigma (from the second album, The Cross of Changes, track 2). Not the entire song, but about a minute sample of the mid part of the song.

enigma has a lot of songs that are pretty cool. a lot of chanting/orchestral/cathedral type sounds set to a pretty cool beat. very eclectic, samples are taken from a lot of things, mostly religious music. not all their songs are as cool (to most people), some are slow and mellow while others are a little more driving. i dig em! worth downloading, ahem, i mean checking out.

i hope i have helped a little bit at least...

oh, juno reactor has had some pretty awesome songs/remixes before the matrix series, check out their remix of control by traci lords for one.

it's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice

This is all great information, sorry I haven't been checking this more often, school work. bazoom! Anywho, Rosco thank you for pointing out massive attack because I heard that song Neo was listining to with his headphones and I was like what is that band, I must get it. Shocked Enigma sounds like a good bet for me, I'll give that a looking into and see how I like it. Keep it up if you have anymore. Thanx

Hey allone it's not "A LOT like The Eyes of Truth by Enigma (from the second album, The Cross of Changes, track 2)" I think it's the one cos "The Eyes of Truth by Enigma" I have is off Matrix OST.
And Archangel's has the cd like I have the tracks though I have taken ages without listening to them I don't even know where they are.
So guess your question is answered by her post.
Also I would recommend The Gregorians pretty cools stuff with the same touch and tone Wink >> HackerExtreme

I don't have the Enigma album if thats what matters. "The Eyes of Truth by Enigma" I have, has Matrix OST in it's track info prolly I could upload it Razz. Official track listing doesn't have it listed though Twisted Evil amazon.com...

The Gregorian have been on the scene for a while though I don't know since when and their genre is kind of similar to Enigma's. I didn't consider that you were looking for techno and grundge [what ever this is] otherwise I doubt whether thats the genre they do (prolly you could try Moby).

No, im trying to stay away from those genres that's why I asked because if it has nothing but that then I wouldn't want to get it, makes sense.

Check the link I put in "The Matrix ST tracklisting" should take you to Amazon's site where you can buy the CD online, that site has tracks' samples you could listen to and decide Wink

Note:
Gregorian does New Age, World and Classical genres mostly and Enigma does Electronic mostly. The Eyes of Truth by Enigma would be New Age in my opinion if that helps.

IMO, the last two movies had kind of limited soundtracks compared to the first movie. I mean, I like the ochestrated symphonic music put to the rock/dance beat, but I think a little more diversity might have helped a little bit. For example, I don't know how many of you are fans of Drum and Bass, but my feeling was that a little bit of DnB would have fit REALLY well in the Matrix movies.

Also, I find it very interesting that dozens of Drum and Bass tunes use vocal and musical samples from the matrix movies because they fit so well together.

I have The Matrix score and soundtrack, Animatrix soundtrack, Reloaded soundtrack (which also includes the score), and Revolutions soundtrack (which is pretty much the score). I listen to classical and orchestral symphonies, but I dont know any particular names of any composers (quite frankly becuase Im a newbie). I suggest taking a look at the track list for the soundtracks, and listen to some samples, or uh "download" a couple of tracks. But yes, it is Don Davis indeed that composed the scores for not only the films but The Animatrix as well, and Juno Reactor along with Rob Dougan co-produced some stuff too. Ive pretty much listened to electroinca all my life, so thats my style, but jazz and classical/opera are my sub-genres.

Massive Attack is awsome, their my second favorite music artist of all time. Mezzanine would be one of the greatest albulms ever made, I love listening to it when Im driving down the street downtown like 2am in the morning.

I actually think The Matrix should have been influenced musically by: orchestral symphonies and opera, industrial dance, psychedelic trance or progressive trance/house, and break beat techno. I dont think drum n bass would fit, specially for the Hel Coat Check scene, DnB doesnt really give off enough energy you would need for this kind of action. I mean dont get me wrong or anything DnB is great, but it wouldnt sound as good as it would with what I said.

Breakbeat techno is a given. Just listen to "Leave you far behind" off of the M1 soundtrack. Talk about crushing drums. I guess drum and bass would be a little too frantic for cinema use (minus the movie Pi). I agree with you totally,I just found that in M1, the orchestral track and the electronic tracks were separate, but in M2 and M3 they were all melded together. I think it would have been kind of neat if they had kept the two separate, and it might have helped the mood of the movie at the same time. Just playing with some thoughts. I'm a big fan of electronica and orchestral music as well.
