Sorry if this has been posted and talked about, but one thing I have not yet seen is, is there any significance to the fact that in the matrix in M1, Neo is a software engineer.

Could have have helped to code the software for the matrix? Could he be the code author of Agent Smith?

I think Neo's occupation and skill are essential to his path as the One. And if he, as part of the Matrix, wrote parts of the Matrix then that would be analogous to OS kernel bootstrapping.
Another question is: what portions would he have written some code for?

A stranger question would be, if he wrote code that ended as part of a woman that he made sweet love to (before he was freed and meet Trinity), would that somehow be masturbation or insestuous or niether? I guess it depends if you consider those segments of code a) an extenstion of himself or b) his creation and thus offspring.
