[Matrix Reloaded]
Niobe: "What if all this - the prophecy, everything - is bullshit?"
Morpheus: "Then tomorrow we may all be dead, but how would that be different from any other day? This is a war, and we are soldiers. Death can come for us at any time, in any place..."
Morpheus: "Now consider the alternative. What if I am right? What if the prophecy is true? What if tomorrow the war could be over. Isn't that worth fighting for? Isn't that worth dying for?"

Why is Neo so... empty?

Does someone notices, that neo has absolutely no story, no parents and no background at all? How can he go to the 'real world' and forget all about his "parents", or his past? Nothing is mentioned, all we know is that he was a hacker and was looking for the Matrix...

This is a simple question... It must be irrelevant, but this is something I was thinking about...

Neo represents the birth of AI. The big deal with this version of AI is the fact that he understands LOVE. The Matrix is a big experiment to create AI that understands love and has compassion for humans so that it wont be a threat.

Neo: I used to eat there. Really good noodles. I have these memories from my life. None of them happened. What does that mean?
Trinity: That the Matrix cannot tell you who you are.
Neo: And the Oracle can?

NEO is not a program.
The architect stated that Neo's path was based on a similar (but not identical) probability, but not certain possibility of how Neo would turn out. Neo represents humans FREE WILL.

THEN AGAIN it all depends on wether you can to SEPARATE machines from humas. At the end, the soverinity of 01 created better AI and better AI... the Merovingian has a wife (hot wife too Twisted Evil )and has a taste for sex, then the questions is how different is a human mind from a computer program.

All we have are theories, but remember if NEO was a program.. he would not be a 'contradictory anomaly' which allows free will to exist only between choices provided to him by the machines, chaning the outcome of what is to come. This anomaly is also'expected' and under a 'measure of control'. If Neo was a program we would BE control. Also Neo does carry a code, but if code was desimated back into the matrix, then the ONE would no longer exist. MAYBE this is what Neo exchanged with Smith making smith the carrier of the anomaly code. WE DONT KNOW
(of course all these theories depends largely on the viewers and how they accept certain dialogues)
I beleive Smith, the Merovingian, and the Architect are only ones who are honest.

In early scripts there is mentioned more. E.g. a girl-friend. Also examining the folder that agent Smith is showing Neo [Matrix 1 interrogation] reveals further names from Neo's past (father etc.).

Interesting... I was thinking about this lack of background like a mistake of the Wachowski brothers, not really thinking he is in fact a machine or something like this...
But I really would like that Neo were a little more... human. Even his love for trinity seems so... robotic.

I think this is actually deliberate. Agent smith is, in that scene, showing us the two sides of Neo. The hacker and the Thomas Anderson, the man who 'helps his landlady carry out her garbage'. All the way through both of the Matrix films, Smith still refers to Neo as Mr Anderson, even when the rest of the Agents and the Architect don't. When you leave the Matrix, I think it's just common practise in Zion to forget your memories and past life because you have no idea if they exist or are true. You can see Neo finally 'losing' his Thomas Anderson alter-ego in the subway where he says 'My name is Neo!' and jumps onto the platform.

You don't get people in Zion called John Smith do you?

Also, why are all the Zion people really pretty? The sterotypical hacker is a fat guy with a horrible BO problem, not Keano Reeves.

Why are most people in American Films pretty?
Why spend my hard earned cash to see ugly smelly people in latex fighting AI?

I'll take Zions celebration of humanity over a city bus ride any day of the week.

Hey I know Hackers and Computer programmers and they are not fat, and they don't smell....
The only other thing I have to say regarding Neos character is yes he is robotic and he has never smiled, not even at Trinity.....
