This is probably one of the better sites explaining the mythology and characters of the matrix.

briandemilio.com...

Some may have read it already, but if you haven't it's a good read, and forms a good foundation of understanding what the movies are about.

Good ideas... Not perfect though...
I'll mention one point:

He talks about Agent Smith in detail, but fails to mention his hate for the matrix... We all know that even before he merged with Neo he hated matrix and zion... The author makes the fight between Neo and SMith personal, but there is much more to that...

...Even machines can see that we are already dead...

hate = anger
anger = hate

Some would say, Omega, that Smith is becoming. He's just many lifetimes away from that enlightenment.

" ...anger, [which] is transmuted into mirror-like Wisdom. We sense something beyond the cloudy, possessive and aggressive qualities of anger and this intuitive insight enables us to automatically transmute the essence of anger into precision and openess, rather then deliberatly changing it."

I beleive this is the positive force of Smith's nature. He is in the process of becoming....something else. He's just really pissed off at what he sees he is and what is around him presently.

I know. I know. YOu were commenting on the website and what should be considered as analytical deconstruction.
I looked at the website and after seeing your post, used both as a spring board to more discussion.
It reminded me of something I just recently read.
The quote it from Chogyam Trungpa's book "Cutting Through Spiritual Materialism"

Not everything is black and white...
How can you love if you don;t know what hate is?

You can't...

omega - Actually, it's the other way around. Unless you know what love is, you can't hate. Despite what most fanficcers think, hate springs from love much more often than love springs from hate.

Boxer - Anger and hate are not equal. I can be angry without ever bringing hatred into it, and I can hate without anger. In fact, that's the worst form of hate - the calm, rational hatred.

Kids! Bringing about Armageddon can be dangerous. Do not attempt it in your home.

Love and Hate are not much different...
It is so much easier to hate someone who you used to love, rather than someone who you never loved...

"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it's indifference."

I never realized he wrote that. I came to that all by myself many years ago, but I never read Night until recently (and actually never finished it--it's a tough one). But it makes sense that he would have said it.

Love and Hate are not antonyms, and Anger and Hate are not synonyms. Love will occasionally appear to come from Hate, as will it occasionally appear to turn into Hate. But Love is a complex word, with complex meaning. In fact, it is rather silly that we only generally use one word for Love in our language, when it so obviously takes so many forms. Love as an emotion (or chemical reaction in the brain) is very akin to Hate; in fact, you might even say that Love and Hate are similar enough even to be mistaken for each other from time to time, especially when Love seems to 'spring from' Hate (not actually a very appropriate phrase, since this Shakespearean idea is less profound than our own meaning, which is Hate actually turning into Love--because of the connection to Romeo and Juliet, to use the words 'sprung from' in this context is somewhat flawed, as Juliet's 'only love sprung from my only hate' is really only Romeo of Montague, a boy 'sprung from' the house against which her family is in a heated feud).

Love can also be described as a mental state: 'He or she is in Love.' When in Love, people are apt to do things that logic and reason would seem to decry.

Love can also be an attitude. One who has such an attitude is a peaceful, tolerant person, though mostly riddled with other, less lofty persuasions... You know, Hippies.

Anger can be righteous; it does not have to come from Hate. Think about this: the one person in your life to whom you are closest--be they friend, sibling, parent or child--can be said to be Loved by you, yes? When was the last time that person made you angry? Does that mean you Hated that person, even for a moment? ...I think Yoda said it best: Anger leads to Hate. That does not mean that nothing else leads to Hate but Anger, nor that Anger always leads to Hate.

Just a few random thoughts.

Love and hate are chemical reactions affecting the same part of the brain.
So indifference - the lack of the chemical reaction - is opposite to love...

Exactly.
If loving someone is caring as much as one can possible for another, then the opposite is not giving a damn about that person/subject, which is indifference.

Revolution is the birth of equality and the antithesis to oppression...
