Well, aside from the fact that they're important anit-human authorities for each world, I've thought that they could be the same being, despite their different names and obviously different appearance.
I don't have a whole lot of reasons to prove it, just enough to say that it isn't impossible. The Architect is obviously a machine, he is neither a human or a program, and here's why. The Architect cant' be human or otherwise he wouldn't live nearly long enough to make six matrixes(which encompass a period of 100 years each) and he can't be a program because programs are a part of the matrix, and he created it. And whenever the architect referes to machines he says "we" and "us", and even though he said they wouldn't meet again, he can only predict the events that have already happend and the possible alternate outcomes within a certain event, so there is an odd that they will meet again, I mean, if he was right about everything he said, then every human would die and the machines would also be miserable, so it'd be an unhappy ending. maybe the "crash" that would kill everyone in the matrix was Smith, I mean there are some clues that Smith's glitch was intended(if it's possible for a glitch to be intended) because if it wasn't then Neo woudl be dead, the only counter-evidence is when Smith says "everything's exactly the same as before...well, not exactly the same
