if the architect really wanted neo to choose the door leading to the source so the machines wouldnt have to avoid anymore problems with their survival, then he could have just taken away Neo's "choice", and only have him go through one door. it seems to me that the architect didnt really care which door Neo went through. Am i correct or not?

The matrix is based on choice. It seems to be hardcoded in everey machine/human interrelation.

The Architect's motive for giving Neo a choice.

In examining the Neo/Architect dialog, I think a crucial consideration is the Architect's motive for orchatrating Neo arrival at the source. Reiterating a concept programs of the machine world are so apt to, everything happens by causality. In the case of a high level program such as the Architect, cause (by virtue of his powers) is more often than not reason or function.
If you agree with that, then it is reasonable to surmise that the fact that Neo was lead to him, aspects of way he was lead to him and most importantly the choice the One is destined/chooses to make all serve important criteria deemed sufficient and necessary by the Architect.
Although I agree with knnknn about choice being a requisite to all machine-human interactions, provided it is an exchange within the Matrix (the inner matrix for the nested Matrices proponents). The Architect indeed states that choice allowed a substancial improvement in popular acceptance of the Matrix, however Neo obviously has not accepted it. Thus, I do not believe the Architect provided Neo with the appearance of a choice just to follow a hardcoded design requirement. I think the Architect has determined that knowing Neo's response to his historic proposition is essential for subsequent desicions, planning and actions.
I can only guess at what these possible consequents and alternates (to use symbolic logic phrasing, or if-then-else for the programmers) are.
However, if Neo's choice has no bearing on the Architect's plans, then why go through all of trouble of arranging for his journey to the source?[/quote]
