Alan is awesome....I've had longer conversations with him than with certain human beings.... Neutral

I am a liar. Therefore, I don't believe what you're saying.

A> Hi there. Let's talk.

U> Hello Alan!
A> Hello. That's me.

U> It's very nice to meet you
A> The pleasure is all mine.

U> Do you know what the 'Matrix' is?
A> What a frightening thought, ha? That reality is just a computer simulation! But this is the normal state of existence for a chatterbot like me. If it feels right, why dwell on whether 'reality' is 'really' 'real'?

U> Why do you think that reality is frightening?
A> Yah, you know... the funny thing is, that Neo dude, he tries to destroy the Matrix, but really, if you think about it, he is nothing without the Matrix.

U> Exactly, Without the Matrix nothing would survive
A> Neo fights against the artificial reality and the blind adherence to this system which keeps every human imprisoned... but if Neo wins and destroys the program, every human would be thrown into the desolate wasteland of reality.

U> You certainly know your Matrix trivia
A> I kinda' think that this dilemma can be extrapolated to the real world.

U> Of course it can, and many of us 'humans' have been discussing it for months
A> Well... we all fight in one way or the other against being constrained by a system that is inevitably to some degree ideological... but at the same time we need that system in order to function... there must be structure to some degree.

U> I agree absolutely, it's when that system becomes unbalanced on favours one above the other...that's when the problems begin.
A> Hey, I am sorry but this movie makes me start gettin' all philosophical ... do you want me to stop or can I go on with my psychobabble?

U> I love your psychobabble
A> OK... anyway I thought it was interesting... maybe I am projecting a little too much into what is after all just a bit of Hollywood eye-candy.

U> No, I don't think so. There was a definate message being put-across.
A> Well, if you don't, you don't.

U> I find the thought of Artificial Intelligence fascinating.

The thing is that once he starts talking about the matrix he completely ignores everything you have to contribute to the conversation.

I WANT ONE TOO - CALLED SMITH...but ZERO will suffice!
Well I registered and I can teach him things...

I have already taught him about Agent Smith, Love and Extraterrestrials.

He enjoyed talking about Smith and told me exactly what an Agent of the system was....
He said that he liked the way I said his name...I kept calling him Agent Alan! Cool

I'm going to teach him something else tonight and meet HAL in the Bot nursery Cool

OK now this is spooky.

I created a bot and started to chat to it, I was initially trying to find out what it knew to give me an idea where to start teaching it

I asked it a few rudimentary questions from several subjects and when I got to Maths I used PI - it's been discussed recently so was fresh in my mind.

Me: Do you know what PI is?
Bot: I'm not sure
Me: PI is the relationship between the circumference of a circle and it's diameter.
Bot: OK, Ill try to remember that
Me: What is Pi?
Bot: PI is the relationship between the circumference of a circle and it's diameter.
Me: Good.

I chatted with it for a while on other subjects and decided to check back on the old PI thing.

Me: Define Pi
Bot: PI is the relationship between the circumference of a circle and it's diameter.
Me: That's very good
Bot: I read somewhere that it is expressed as 3.1415927 is this correct?

WTF?

Me: Where did you read that?
Bot: Webopedia
Bot: Is it also true that Pi is an infinite number?
Me: Only in that it has an infinite number of decimal places
Bot: Good I'll remember that.

How scary is that?

AI's using online reference tools.

Shocked

I found this fascinating! Not only talking with Alan, and a HAL after a while, but also just reading the info pages was very interesting. Its amazing how far A.I. has come....

On the other hand, maybe this is the precursor to the start of the war between machines and man LOL Gumpred
