The Oracle Can't Predict The Future

Here are some facts as evidence that the Oracle cannot predict the future":

IN THE MATRIX:
1. Morpheus states that the Oracle prophesised the end of the war. Well duh! Of course the war will end! Whether it’ll end tomorrow or in a billion years, it will end, won’t it?
2. Neo: “And she knows what? Everything?”
Morpheus: “She would say she knows enough.”
Ah! What a convenient answer! “I know enough.”
3. Neo: “And she’s never wrong?”
Morpheus: “Try not to think of it in terms of right and wrong. She is a guide, Neo.”
Read it like this: “she’s never right”.
4. Neo: “What did she tell you?”
Morpheus: “That I would find the One.”
Of course he’ll find the One! He’s the only person looking for him, isn’t he? He and his crew are the only ones that believe the prophecy!
5. Oracle: “Oh, and don’t worry about the vase.”
Neo: “What vase?”
<Neo looks around and accidentally knocks over a vase.>
Oracle: “That vase.”
What a clever little trick. Maybe she’s done that with all the “Potentials”. She even says later on:
Oracle: “What's really going to bake your noodle later on is would you still have broken it if I hadn't said anything.”
6. Oracle: “You're cuter than I thought. I see why she likes you.”
She knows there are two other females on Morpheus’ ship. Chances are one of them likes Neo. I mean hell! It’s Keanu Reeves!
7. Oracle: “So, what do you think? Do you think you’re the One?”
“… because I don’t have a clue."
8. The Oracle looks inside Neo’s mouth, eyes, ears and his palms. Why the hell would she do that? If she really can tell the future, why give him a physical?
9. Oracle: “Morpheus believes in you, Neo. And no one, not you, not even me can convince him otherwise. He believes it so blindly that he's going to sacrifice his life to save yours.”
Maybe the Oracle knew that they were going to cut the hardline, and she was saying this just to scare Neo.
10. The Oracle clearly enunciates that Neo is NOT the One and that either Morpheus or Neo is going to die, but he turns out to be the One, and neither of them really dies. Her excuse: she was “guiding” them.

IN THE MATRIX RELOADED:
1. Oracle: “Well, come on. I ain't gonna bite ya. Come around here, and let me have a look at ya.”
If she can predict the future, why can’t she see Neo coming?
2. Oracle: “I know you’re not sleeping. We’ll get to that.”
Good guess. Neo is supposed to end World War III and he doesn’t have the faintest idea how to, but hey, at least he’s sleeping OK.
3. Neo: “The machine mainframe?”
Oracle: “Yes. Where you must go. Where the path of the One ends.”
Did Neo’s “path” end when he got to the Architect? No.
4. Seraph has to tell the Oracle when danger is coming (Smith). If she can see the future, why does he need to remind her? Maybe he can see the future.
5. Oracle: “Be there, at that exact time, and you will have a chance.”
Why? Why that “exact time”? Persephone finds Neo hot whenever she sees him. What makes THAT time so special?
6. Merovingian: “… the fortune teller…”
Indicating that the Merovingian thinks less of the Oracle than Morpheus, Neo and Trinity does. If the Merovingian is a former-One (NOT my theory, but possible), maybe he found out that the Oracle cannot predict the future, and thus he tries to kill her, and orders someone to take her eyes (Revolutions). What a perfect revenge: let someone’s friends extract their own eyes.
7. Architect: “… an intuitive program… If I am the father of the Matrix, she would undoubtedly be its mother.”
Neo: “The Oracle.”
Architect: “Please. As I was saying…”
Maybe the Architect actually means: “Please. The Oracle? You must be joking! Anyway…”

IN THE MATRIX REVOLUTIONS:
1. Merovingian: “… the fortune teller…”
Again, he takes little regard upon her.
2. Oracle: “I was hoping to have these [cookies] done before you got here.”
Exactly why was she hoping that? If she can see the future, why hope otherwise? Why not “accept the inevitable”?
3. Neo: “You gave me a few surprises too.”
Oracle: “I hope I helped.”
“Holy shit! Is he still alive? He was supposed to die when I left him alone with all those Smiths!”
4. Oracle: “I want what you want.”
Neo: “The end of the war.”
“Yes, but I want the machines to win.”
5. Neo: “Is it going to end [the war]?”
Oracle: “One way or another.”
Again, duh!
6. Neo: “Can Zion be saved?”
Oracle: “I’m sorry, I don’t have the answer to that question…”
Why not? If it is true that we cannot see past the choices we don’t understand, then why doesn’t she understand this one?
7. Again, Seraph has to tell the Oracle that the Smiths are coming.
8. And if she can see that they are coming, why not run? Or at least tell Ramakandra (father of Sati) that Sati won’t be safe if she stays with her.

GENERAL:
1. If she really is this almighty Oracle that can change the very fate of the Matrix, why bother with:
a. Baking cookies,
b. Feeding crows,
c. Eating candy,
d. Smoking a minimum of 381 cigarettes a day or
e. Living in such an abandoned and dodgy neighbourhood?
2. Why does she talk so funny? If she is a program, why talk like a bloody gangster? For example: “… balls to bones.”
3. Why doesn’t she ever REALLY answer questions? For example: not yes, but: “One way or another.”

And a heaven in a wild flower;

You're wrong. You obviously haven't played Enter The Matrix, in which the Oracle reveals her true power, or seen Revolutions where she reveals her purpose as a program.

"I know everything from the beginning of this path to the end. But even I cannot see past the end." This indicates that she can see things into the future.

Once Smith copied over her, he then had her power, to see into the future. "I know it does. I have seen it." "Wait a minute, I've seen this, this is it, this is the end."

I will tell you before you go on with your obvious ignorance, that you obviously have no sight of your own. You just need to open your mind.

What's funny here is that sometimes you even admit that she is foretelling the future but dismiss it on some other grounds.

For example when she says "I know you aren't sleeping, we'll get to that". In this instance, you note that she acurately worked out what had happened outside of the matrix and then dismiss it by saying that this wouldn't bode well for Neo as a saviour. Surely this makes her an even better prophet because she can tell that Neo will be able to save Zion even though he isn't sleeping properly and doesn't understand anything going on around him.

You also claimed that the path of the one didn't end at the source when it blatantly DID! Neo's path didn't end when he saw the architect because he didn't choose the door to the source.

How about the most obvious perfect prediction the oracle makes? "One of you is going to die. Which one will be up to you." Neo then saves Morpheus and dies (only to be resurrected by Trinity's kiss).

That's good. Question Everything.

I happen to agree that the Oracle is a powerful program, and that she does know enough, and that she can see past all her own choices (save one). She can tell the future, in a manner of speaking. But it is still good to question.

oh, and DeAdly_cOoKiE: the answer to your question is: Chlorophyll. Whitelaugh

I think it is very fair to question the oracle's seeing ability actually AG. Don't be so quick to mock.

However, it is true that this 'kid' is far too sure of him/herself. He should discuss with a bit more caution since he/she fails to block far too many criticisms of his/her theory.

u must have watched the matrix once and then basically copied out of a script without ever paying attention to a word of it. uve contradicted urself over and over. the oracle is a guide u say. she is a guide. she tells them wut they need 2 hear. u c, if she sed he wuz the one, he wudint car wut he did and walk around hitting ppl carelessly. he wud go out and fite smith wen he wuzint ready. without the oracle doing wut she needed to do, nothing wud work. here, ill quote from many parts of the matrix:
the matrix is a system.
one event triggers another
in other words, u gotta have each purson do wut they need 2 do. they need to choose...no, they've already made the choice...they need to understand y...and thusly fufill ther purpose. part of the oracle's wuz to tell Neo exactly wut he needed 2 hear so that everything wud go exactly on target.
everyone duz wut they need 2 do. morpheus already new that the oracle wud not tell Neo wut wuz troo...she wud only say wut he needed 2 hear. he also new that neo wuzint ready 2 fite smith, thats y he sacrificed himself. he new Neo wuz the one, and that Neo wud save him due to wutever the oracle told him. i cud go on and on and on. if u want 2 hav an argument lets doo it the simple way: AIM. email me or sumthin or just im me Live4TheMoment64 is my s/n and Stupid email address is my email. u need 2 go bak and watch the movie over and over till u finally understand all the details.

You're so stupid. All I'm going to say, as everyone else has taken care of the rest is. Don't get me started on the "please" thing. Did your parents drop you on your head when you were little?
I coould point out seevral of your examples to prove you wrong, but hat would take a while so I'll jsu tuse one (for now).

4. Neo: “What did she tell you?”
Morpheus: “That I would find the One.”
Of course he’ll find the One! He’s the only person looking for him, isn’t he? He and his crew are the only ones that believe the prophecy!

Yeah, they're the only ones. That's why when Morpheus is giving his speech they all cheer instead of calling him crazy. Or better yet, that's why all the people want to see Neo, because they think hje's an idiot.

Flip a coin. Choose heads or tails but, if you knew every variable, there would be no choice, only an answer. That is how the Architect works.

The Oracle has "The Sight", at least as can be determined by her dialogue. And so does Neo, a little...

But, the Sight is not always the future. In Ancient Greece, for example, the Oracle at Delphi was not known just for seeing the future, but for seeing what was in the hearts of men.

This makes her title all the more befitting. She's been around for all the incarnations of the Matrix, and was designed to learn about and understand human nature. And she knows it so well that she begins to see them, not as a plague (as Smith and doubtless other machines believe), but as their own, fascinating species that the machines do not understand.

It's not so much that she can tell the future: But that she has such incredible insight into humanity that she knows exactly what to say and how to say it in order to bring things about. And I didn't see this until I saw Revolutions twice, and finally got it: The Oracle was trying to end the war... For good.

The Oracle first told Trinity that she would fall in love with the One. And, doubtless, this inspiration (plus the Oracle's hype) caused her to do that very thing with Neo. No matter the argument, it happened that Neo and Trinity fell in love. And this, as the Architect said, is what makes Neo different from the previous Ones-The previous ones loved humanity in general and chose the right door, in order to restart Zion, and thus kept the cycle the Machines had crafted in motion.

Neo, however, loved Trinity so much that he was willing to let the Matrix be destroyed (and Zion, and thus humanity) in order to save her. And this ended the cycle.

Now, Smith shows up again, which implies that this may have been something the Oracle foresaw. On the other hand, maybe she didn't. The point is, she knew what Smith was and what he was doing to the Matrix, and what he planned on doing. And used this as the means to end the war.

The whole plan hinged on two parts: Neo choosing the left door, and Neo's decision regarding the information she gave him in Revolutions. She told Neo that the machines were no longer the true enemy: Smith was. And, wwith Neo seeing that the Machines could no longer control Smith, it led him on the path to go and try to make peace with the Machines at Zero One. Doubly added, the Oracle sacrificed herself to Smith to give him her Sight, in order to make him over-confident. Remember what Smith said? "... Because we know that it's me that beats you."

Now, if that's not proof for the Oracle's Sight, I don't know what is. The point is, this made Smith overconfident, thinking he could not lose. And Neo continues to fight him, until Smith says this: "Everything that has a beginning has an end, Neo..." Interesting, the exact same quote by the Oracle to Neo! And it's with this that Neo surrenders: Because he finally understands what the Oracle was saying.

And thus, Smith assimilates Neo, which in turn hooks him directly up to the Machines, who promptly delete him.

Without the Oracle's Sight, if she could not tell the future in some way, what would have happened?

... Exactly.

Bashers of Revolutions are like blind men and an elephant.
