The Machines as the Good Guys?

(A totally left-field goofball theory)

Do the Machines WANT the humans to fight them?

Looking back... here's one unanswered question:

WHER do Zion's weapons come from, and WHY were they chosen?

Could it be that the computers wanted the Zion humans to keep in fighting shape, yet not pose a grave threat to the machines... the latter one is definitely a yes... besides the odd EMP, the humans have nothing deadly to put up against the machines. Aside from the electrical discharge guns (which may have been adapted from other uses), the humans' conventional weapons seem to all run on homemade gunpowder.

And why would the machines tolerate such distrust from humans?

Consider... there was a war... humans lost, badly... radiation is bad, all life is dead, and the enemy has left an ionized cloud layer to trap whatever survivors are left on Earth...

The Machines have gathered up the survivors... keeping them alive, and letting the population grow... (note, Smith says there are billions of humans... but there would have only been a few hundred million surviving the radiation, famine and plague after the Renaissance war... think about it...) They know that most humans cannot cope with the world in the condition it is in, and the bio-resources left on the planet cannot support the human population... so to keep the population steady/growing, they develop the Matrix to give the humans an opportunity to use/develop their minds...

In this manner, they can support the entire human population with minimal use of resources.

EVERYONE SHUT UP ABOUT THE BATTERIES... IT'S ALL LIES I TELL YOU LIES LIES LIES! Screwy

Okay, so what do we have?

An unknown enemy has trapped humans and AIs on the planet... (OMG... I'm not even sure it's Earth anymore...)... the war has killed millions or billions and has ruined our ecosystem.

Machines are built to serve. Anyone know Isaac Asimov's Three Laws? Why weren't they in the movie? A robot MUST PROTECT ANY HUMAN BEING REGARDLESS OF RISK TO ITSELF. (First Law)... what if the war was between human countries... but they'd developed automated systems so advanced, they killed everything off...

Now, Machines, by the first law, are trying to ressurect the human species. They create the Matrix to keep most humans quiescent, and they develop Zion to remove the potentially dangerous minority of humanity... the malcontents, the unpredictables... and that is the true purpose of Zion... to make humanity safer...

Oracle and Architect still have same function... to balance the equation on a knife edge... to make sure they're not throwing everything away...

Neo is still the key.

So this cycle goes on and on, as the population grows... more and more malcontents show up... and when they reach a critical mass, the machines purge them and start afresh...

Just what do they do with previous Zionites? If it is true, that a majority of the dispossed are of minorities... and that Zion is completely destroyed every time... then the ethnic mix should be different by now, with mostly caucasians left... but what if they keep the Zionites and breed them / extract their genetic code?

So now they have a base population, and a small subpopulation that is increasingly fanatically martial... and is dedicated and adept at killing machines... breeding warriors to protect the masses... ? Warriors whom they do NOT want to trust machines... because Machine AI would only serve as a crutch to them... and the Machines need them as keen and as independent as possible.

Now the Oracle has broken the cycle... she sees something she likes in humans... she thinks they're ready for a challenge? Is it conquest? Survival? or Colonization?

Shut the F*ck Up... Thanks for nothin Bitch

I TOLD you it was goofball. I'm playing, not PREACHING.

I watched the entire Animatrix... a couple of times... I've read the timelines...

And, I'll state again: ALL HISTORICAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE PRE-MATRIX WORLD COMES FROM THE ARCHIVES.

The Archives HAVE BEEN EDITED to EXCLUDE A COUPLE OF THINGS... oh?

How about:
The existence of the previous Zions.
The fact that the cloud barrier is deadly (not just a form of sunscreen, but DEADLY.
The previous incarnations of "The One"
How about an In-Depth explanation of how Zion was built?

So, ISN'T it POSSIBLE that the whole RENAISSANCE WAR is ALSO a LIE?

okay, so maybe I'm a boatload of crap... but I'm not the only one who's SPECULATED about it.

"Minorities" is a misnomer. They are only minorities in the Caucasian dominated USA.

In the rest of the worls the Caucasians are probabbly a minority, especially when compared to the number of Chinese people around.

The Matrix is a reprisentation of pre 2000 AD Earth, and will have the same demographics.

Hey- Your theory is not wrong in the least. It is something I believe that you are supposed to question. Look at the opening sequence in the first movie. Who would you assume is good and who would you assume is bad? The cops are generally the good guys... This is furthered by the fact that Thomas Anderson typically "disobeys" the rules, and continues through the character development of Neo... and then on to Smith who had some of Neo's "code" copied into him.

The machines, as explained by Smith, tried and continued to try to create a "perfect world" for the humans to survive in. This Yin/Yang philosophy is carried out throughout the story. Neither is all good and all bad, we are to suspend our preconceptions of assignment and see that both good and bad are present, and represented in both the humans and the machines (programs).

Good catch! Consider the big picture- the arc of the storyline- in summary, the big picture is about evolution of the characters, the species (both human and machine) and in the end, both to a mutual sustinance. (That is until growth ends again and has to be revitalized. It is the way of all things!

Well, the real question... whatever is right (and this one isn't my main theory... this is just some off the cuff thing)... is what happens now? And what WILL we find outside the clouds?

I'm betting on either a genocidal alien culture...

or maybe the rest of humanity... all the militarists and technocrats who've trapped us here and are waiting to see if the machines will get out in the end... with their fingers on thousands of little red buttons. Gumpred

Who's really good or bad? There is no cut and dry answer!

Yes, the storyline to the Matrix was intended to make us think... and to question. Even the AI itself has a Yin/Yang, a conscious if you will. Ergo the Architech and the Oracle. I don't believe the machines are inherently bad, they are only doing what humanity has done for centuries - ensure it's survival. We (in the real world) would not be where we are today if we did not have this survival instinct in us. To a machine and it's way of reasoning, humanity could be looked on as inherently evil.
