What is Choice? I believe the matrix is a perfect example of the world today. Most of us are living an illusion, thinking we actually have "free will" while in truth and in fact we are merely at the end of the strings that control us. The system/people with the power/the religious leaders/the goverments/the uber-rich and wealthy etc. We are mere pawns in their world. That is unless we Free our Minds forget what you belief system tells you, dont call me crazy. If you do, then the system has you. You conform to all the sterotypes and anything outside of what the tell you is passed of as "dellusional".

Just Random thoughts people. Peace out. Cool

I was compelled to stay

I think people do have choice, but we are our own limitation.
As long as you follow are controlled by hegemonic way of thinking they are slaves to the group. When you think like everyone else your actions become very predictable. The followers think they are making a choice but they are really only adhering to the dominant ideology and not their own selves.
I believe people have to totally deconstruct their views on the world and decide for themselves what they value the most. Only then is it possible to make a real choice.
My theory on the universe is that every time someone meets a metaphorical fork in their lives new universes are made where all the other possibilities are played out. These forks or ‘choices’ can be as big as World War II or as small as the result of flipping a coin for fun so an infinite amount of universes are created every millisecond. Fate governs everything you do, but this fate is decided by you in the choices you make and the branched off universe you decide to pick with your actions.

Forgive me if this appears unclear, I just got back from a tiring run. If there is anything in my theory you wish me to explain please ask me. Smile

I think we do have choice, but the greater things are controlled by God (or something like that..). So we DO have a choice, but not everything is in our own hands.

THIS IS ZION AND WE ARE NOT AFRAID!!!

Why did you steal my avatar?

It's exactly the same down to the dimensions of the border and the slight imperfection between the border and the image.

Please change it immediately.

One thing i sort of never understood about Christianity is that, when it all boils down to it, if God "controls" us all, and if he knows the outcome of everything, then that hardly leaves me, from a christian point of view, with "choice' i.e free will

nobody understands that, especially not christians. they've been trying to explain it since st. augustine wrote city of god, and in all that time no one has been able to explain how freewill can exist if god is omniscient. the best attempt at an explanation i've heard is that god knows us so well that he can predict our decisions based on our personalities. but that means we don't have free will, and that our actions are dictated not by choice but by our predisposition to act in certain ways. that makes the human consciousness more of an observer than a chooser. this seems to tie in with matrix films well; neo's choices are made for him by his personality and by the code he carries and by the oracle. he must seek only to understand the choice. this might change during the final fight in m3, but i'm not sure. it seems that neo continues to fight smith because he chooses to, and not because he thinks anything good can come of it. but in fact that choice is only temporary; neo soon gives himself to smith to save zion and 01.

That relates to what I said:

Quote:

When you think like everyone else your actions become very predictable

I believe we can make choices, but only if they are totally unpredictable and do not follow the same way of thinking as the rest of the world.
By destroying our predisposition to act in certain ways we gain the ability to choose.
If you follow my theory then you could make the observation that states the irony that only those 'crazy' and unpredictable enough to be locked away actually have the power to make choices. Although these choices are also limited, because a personality is still held by the 'crazy' individual. Some 'choices' will still be predictable.
The only real way to make true choices, and control all your choices is to have no ego, sense of self or goals.
This is the state of Buddha nature, the ultimate enlightenment.
However I don't believe it is a 'god' that decides what choices we make. It is simply the nature of the universe.

Choice is an illusion.

There is only one real truth. Action -> Reaction. Cause & effect.
