Ok, the way i see it, there is one definite way that Zion is actually a matrix, and the Matrix is in the Zion matrix. Look at it this way:
The Architect says that the newest matrix is based on choice. Well eventually someone's gonna make the Choice to start studying AI. Eventually this guy will create new AI in the Matrix. This will ultimately lead to what happened in the real world, the Machines will take over. Thus, the Matrix will look like the real world, and those in the Matrix will be put into the crop fields. Soon, a new matrix within the Matrix is created to accomodate these crop fields in the Matrix. Thus, matrix in a matrix.

Another thing. Neo reached the architect through more backdoors (like those he had been led through by Seraph). Perhaps when he exited the Right door, it didn't take him to the Matrix as he knew it from the first movie, but a matrix that was like the original Matrix, but different. Then, when he was jacking out, he didn't get out of the new matrix, but was taken to another area in that matrix that looked like the real world. This accounts for A) why he feels the robots, B) why he can stop the robots and can see smith in the real world, and C) why he can be in the matrix without being plugged in.

Ah yes....the Matrix inside the bigger Matrix theory. Of course it is plausible in the story but we are not shown anything to suggest this. Also, I dont see what the point would be then. How would the One return to the Source? How does the Matrix reload. It totally kills the storyline. So....no.

Again, there is nothing in the movies to suggest this at all. Hell, the Matrix could have been a giant alien experiment. But since there is nothing to suggest that in the movies, we do not consider it. Questions such as why Neo can feel and stop the sentinels, why he can see Smith and feel machine energy and why he can connect without jacking in are already answered.

PS- Dont call them `robots'. Call them machines or AI. Or else you're gonna get cyber-jumped.

y he is connected to the machines is not answered well enough i think. the oracle says that the one is connnected to the source. how can a person be connected to a bunch of machines? he can even see exile programs out of the matrix. this kind of thing doesn't happen unless he is connected to the machines. this, of course, would then support the 'neo is a program' theory. while i'm not sayin this theory is totally false, i'm not saying it is true either.

AG..I agree with you that nothing in the movie suggests that Zion is not real...but i thought there were lot of hints, as follows:

* Smith ability to take over someone else's conciousness, similar to what the agents can do in M1
* The spoon handed to Neo by the Kid; "There is no spoon"
* Neo's un-human like abilities in destroying the sentinels and "see" Smith. Btw, if Neo has the ability to kill the sentinels via his ability to wirelessly connect to the mainframe, why couldnt he not destroy the sentinels that are on heir way to zion?
* the last scene in the trilogy is in the matrix, what happen to zion after the reboot?

If he did go to Zion to help fight in the war, there would be too many sentinels for him to destroy himself. He couldn't have done it from 4 km away. He needs to be close enough to them to feel them.

Whats the big mystery? Zion will survive this time and freed minds from the Matrix will retreat to Zion.

I don't think that is a possibility. I was reading one of the comics on the official site the other day and there was a story called 'System freeze' about a woman who has an AI program and an agent was trying to get off her.

If someone within the Matrix did create AI then i'm sure Agents would intercept it.

Many crops would be lost if there was a repeat of the Second Renaissance.

yeah... uh... i haven't seen animatrix yet... so... i'll have to get back to ya on that... but uh... y would the agents intercept it and try to kill her? it wouldn't affect the real world, just the matrix
