I think one concept the movie suggests is that every matrix has an escape. This includes the matrices we engage in day to day life. In order for the mind to be trapped within a matrix it must be given a choice at a near unconcious level, it is the compromise for an accepted system. The Matrix had an escape: the red pill. And Zion had its escape too, the left door. It was the choice Neo was given upon realizing Zion and the One was just another system of control, just as when he had realized the matrix world was not so absolute, Morpheus offers his choice, the Architect offers his choice.

That together with my own other theory, that the Brothers wanted to portray life as just an assortment of matrices. We're living in one as we speak. Our reality. As high-school knowledge of physics will tell you that the monitor is not a fundamental particle of nature, if there is such a thing. All that we see and interact with, including ourselves, are figments of imagination, distortments of something underlying by our minds - the excitement of atoms by interacting with photons shifting the molecules releasing the proteins, etc. If we could see the truth, we'd only be seeing the physics, the gold code.

But the thing is, there's always an escape. There's always that choice at a near unconscious level. For any matrix that you're in. And you're always in one. Maybe to be enlightened is to realize that there is nothing but matrices. The only reality is fantasy. I think that's what Neo understands at the end. He stops fighting for matrices: truth, freedom, peace, love. To realize that a matrix isn't so bad. It's all we have. Look around you. Is the matrix really so bad? It's beautiful. It can be your chrysalis.

Neo saw without eyes, he saw the smooth golden code of the "real world", and it wasn't only the machines structure he was seeing, he actually saw the whole world around him, and the places where energy flow was high, was swimming in orange-light... This means, all that people believed in the desert of the real was just another level of mind illusion. Maybe Neo actually found this out, and he was able to quit this level, and raise to one higher. Maybe the next part of the movie will not be called Matrix #, but rather a title descripting the second level, the Reality of Zion.

In the Matrix trilogy, you can find some hints, that lot of things have a fractal like structure in the machines world..

Maybe, the matrix is also a fractal, which has many levels, including Zion perhaps..

I think you are getting at the Story’s richer purpose that we are supposed to eventually discover.

So much of the film is about human psychology and its purpose.

The film is fiction.
What it reveals is REAL.

There are not actual machines in control of our world, and we are not asleep under their power, neither is there an actual physical place called Zion, and there is no one like Neo who can actually fly etc etc etc.

However, what is meant by ‘Reveals’ is that it parallels or reflects a system of control that exists deep within Human behaviour that can be seen throughout our history and is actively present in our Societies today. The path of the One is the path we must all take to discover this system and begin to break down the repeating cycles of human behaviour that is passed on down to us and to our children.

I have come to see this portrayed abstractly throughout the movies story and can hardly believe my eyes at the sheer genius at how this is embedded. While not obvious, it is hidden in the films like an enigma, which explains why the story is designed to provoke us to such deep though and feeling.

The Matrix Trilogy can be viewed on many different levels.
Many see the trilogy as just a great, above average sci-fi movie.

However...

Many have trawled the very depths of the 'rabbit hole' and arrived at many different conclusions. This is the ultimate beauty of the movies they provoke deep thinking.

Rather like the Renaissance - full of new ways of thinking and better ways of expressing ideas.

For many of us it has opened our minds to new possibilites and has ultimatley made us all the more richer from the experience.

I agree with inevitability..
I'm not actually sure with how much information he knows but there's more information out there. The rabbit hole is deep. The matrix is real.
