Remember that the W sibs said they drew a lot from Budhism. Well, when Neo became the One, he had gained "enlightenment". But at the end, he entered "nirvana".

If you need a more contemporary "christian" ending, its like his soul entered heaven like in a rapture or whatever. But it really takes away from what was going on in the Matrix.

Neo and Smith were like matter and anti-matter: you put 'em together and ZAP!- they cancel each other out. Thats what Neo and Smith did to each other. Neo's conscious decision to destroy himself removed him from the normal plane and allowed him to transcend his mind body and all reality and enter into nirvana.

finally I encounter someone who agrees with me. It is Nirvana, the final incarnation of one reached Nirvana by embracing his karma along with his desires, but that's another thread.

Thomas A Anderson the 6th incartion (7th if you count his "resurection") is dead, his spirit left the body. The Oracle's bench has a plaque "in memory of Thomas A Anderson"... what kind of monument is a Bench? Then again Sati's monument is the sun (sunrise, sunset either one) anyway.

I didn't notice the bench thing,

but since Neo was a mathematical remainder that the machines needed to answer the subconscious choice equation of the Matrix....according to the Architect the choice will no longer be subconscious....

So does Neo actually have to return to the source and die? Isn't the equation balanced anyway,

i was just wondering if any one else saw the word GOD spelled out in magnet letters on the oracle's refrigerator when neo went to see her?

In Animatrix 2, we will meet Neo in the matrix. Maybe he will have a new "face".

I believe Neo's real body was plugged back into the matrix by the machines. He's living out a blissful existance, a la Captain Pike in Star Trek's "The Menagerie".

The idea of Neo going to Nirvana was shown by the imagery in gold code as Neo is being taken away. Just to check, has everyone seen how the transport Neo is on is shown in the gold code looking very much like a lotus drifting in water? The lotus is, of course, one of the eight auspicious signs found in mahayana buddhism.
