Smith and Neo's connection

After just thinking back over the first couple of movies I think it's clear that Neo and Smith are connected, not just because Smith says so, but because of the little things.

In the first movie, when Neo finally decides to fight Smith in the subway, they both run, shoot, and empty their clips at the same time (basically I think this is repeated in Rev's as its in the trailers - without guns of course).

In the second movie during the opening, you can tell Neo gets a strange feeling just before he takes flight and we meet the two Smiths.

Then again in the second movie while Neo is fighting all the Smiths he looks to the fence BEFORE all the new Smiths show up.

I really can't believe that Zion is in another matrix. Why would Smith waste time in the first one? As soon as he became Bane, he could have started cloning again.

Also, in the first movie, Smith clearly states he HATES the Matrix. Its smell, the stench he wants out. But after Neo did his body leaping trick at the end of M1, he knew how to get out. I think Smith much like Cypher hates taking orders and was finally compelled to disobey. After all he killed Neo and that just proved that rules don't exist.

It's almost ironic too that Neo is the ONE and then in Rev's we see he is the ONLY one (refering to the Smith fight).

Just my two pennies.

Good point. Have added it.

These are just agents, not necessarily Smith's agents. Moreover he doesn't feel Smith, he feels only the 3 agents.

Ok, here's one theory (I have many)

I believe that Neo's connection with Smith is that Neo has taken some of Smith's powers from him when he entered his body. Which is why he can stop the sentinals, because the sentinals are reading an agent rather than a human.

OK, this doesn't explain the other objections as stated at:

I think maybe equating significance to Neo and Smith shooting/running similarly in M1 is perhaps assigning too much significance to something that was intended only to look cool.

Having seen them several times, I have to say I don't see anything untoward about the way Smith and Neo fight. Obviously, I could be wrong, and I do think there's some link to Neo and Smith, but I don't think it existed prior to Neo exploding Smith's avatar at the end of M1.

Both Neo and Smiths powers have developed at the same time and the same pace, I have to completely agree that there is a connection..

Actually, Smith's powers (i.e. those powers he has that are above and beyond those of a normal agent) don't appear until Matrix: Reloaded, whereas Neo's powers develop in the last part of the Matrix.

So I'm still forced to conclude that they became connected as a result of Neo's blowing him apart, but not before. In fact, in the Matrix, Smith is almost entirely concerned with Morpheus, not with Neo.
