If Zion is real, and the humans have the technology we see in the movies, they would have no trouble in figuring out approximately what year it is.

This means that there has not been 5 destructions of Zion (there is not enough time), and the architect is indeed talking about human denial instead of Zion.

I guess Zion is real, since Zion is a place for religion, love, music and hope. If the machines could create a world like that, the matrix would be perfect and there wouldn't be any movies.

Or I'm just too stoned.

The machines are most probably equipping the 23+1 repopulators with sophisticated builder equipment and life support/heat harnessing tech.
Which makes the technology compromised, and helps perpetuate whatever timeline the machines want us to believe .

I guess they would also have to genetically alter the repopulators in advance, so that nobody could (or have children who could) invent new technology.

The Architect destroys Neo's denial, to make his choose one of the doors.

He does this by apropo'ing Neo's attention back to Trinity, instead of giving him time to ask any good questions.
