As reported on megagames.com... (Monday May 10, 2004), It's all change again for The Matrix Online

Quote:

Sega of America and Warner Bros. announced an agreement to co-publish The Matrix Online, the first massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) based on the popular Matrix property.

Under the terms of the worldwide exclusive deal, SEGA will manage distribution of The Matrix Online, while Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will oversee content development and manage the live game operations. Both companies will supervise ongoing game development and marketing activities for the game.

And now we have an approximate release date.

But you won't be happy. Shocked

Quote:

The Matrix Online is expected to launch in November 2004

Summer 2004 My Ass bazoom!

And of course the usual blurb

Quote:

The Matrix Online is a MMOG where tens of thousands of players will jack into the Matrix world to take an active role in continuing the saga of The Matrix movie trilogy. Developed by Monolith Productions in conjunction with the Wachowski Brothers, creators of The Matrix trilogy, the game will be a re-creation of the virtual world of the Matrix, employing cutting-edge 3-D graphics, networking and server technology. Gameplay in The Matrix Online will be based on intricate and exciting wire-fu combat, an extensive mission structure, social interaction and a completely customizable skill and ability system.

well its not surprise really.. games have a long standing tradition of being late... i'd rather it was late than crap.. if its late AND crap, then someone will pay!

the constraints of a deadline ultimately affected Enter the Matrix in a negative way.. i think there were a lot of things that they could have ironed out given more time, so it ended up having some rough edges. hopefully the delays will mean a better end product this time.

Thanks for this snippet Mark... Sega America..interesting.
I bet it doesn't come out in November. Cool

Wake up Neo - you are absolutely right about games being late...I'm still waiting for Halo 2. My local Gamestation has informed me that it will now be released in Oct/Nov/Dec... Nice to know that they know for sure too! Cool

Just think about Zelda:Ocarina of time Delayed for three years....Turned out to be the best game ever Very Happy
With sega publishing it, it should be good. I only hope it doesnt turn out to have a system like phantasy star online.

Yes i'm a bit peeved that they did'nt do a Tekken style system for combat but at least this way they are cattering for everyone and beat 'em up kings dont have the advantage.
I think it will work quite well if it has a tight mission structure, combat isnt the 'be all end all' with this game, i hope there are many hidden things that you have to work REAL hard to get to....a bit like becoming a Jedi in Starwars:Galaxies.

Yeah, although it removes skill from the equation, it measures power on how devoted to the game you are, i dont know why but i like that. Its proberly because if you put in loads of work you get a result of being very powerful as apposed to just being able to fractionally beat people. It also means that if you are having a bad day (or are hung over) their isnt less chance of beating someone.

wasn't it also because they want it to be playable over a 56k modem without any slow-down?

Who's betting the Oracle is in there somewhere and you have to be like uber level stats to pass the test with Seraph to get an audience with her.

Or how about having lunch with Mero? man this game has so much potential it's scary!

And imagine the event where neo comes back (which I think is inevitable)
And the rumours of his returning, will be very fun Smile

I sincerely hope that does not happen.

I think we might see Sati in the game as well.

I think it will devalue the game if Neo or Neo 2.0 turns up in the game....what would be cool if there is some uber character in the game who turns up from time to time and lays waste to a few agents, keeps us on our toes and gets us asking questions about who they are and how we can find them.
