I believe Mr. Thomas A. Anderson isn't The One. He's just a regular man. "The One" is a term created by the Architect to control the program flaw based on an unbalanced equation the programming of the Matrix that the machines haven't found a way to correct yet. Mr. Anderson is just the human that carries this bug. The whole quest of The One from the beginning all the way untill he returns to the Architect is a big set up. Before i go explaining how and why, I must quote the Architect who basically explains everything.
Architect - "Your life is a the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the Matrix You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which depite my sincerest efforts i've been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a Harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden assiduasly avoided, it is not unexpected thus not beyond a measure of control which has led you, inexorably....here."
The last sentence basically explains that the Architect knows that he can't stop "The One" because The One is part of the programming of the Matrix, it will keep popping up over and over again. Even if "The One" is killed, the program error will still be present thus eventually creating another human who can do the things Neo does. Because the Architect knows he can't stop it, The only thing he can do is control it and make sure it doesn't get out of hand. Ergo, the whole "The One" prophecy was created as a system of control. In a way it's a big giant program flow that continues in a loop (unless the loop is broken). This is basically how the process follows.
(Note: The whole set up is constructed to where everytime the sentinels are heading for Zion The One is told by the Oracle to get the key from the Keymaker and reach the Architect. So everytime The One is making a choice the robots are heading for Zion to destroy it. This way he can be pursuaded to agree with the deal that the Architect makes as to where if he chooses to return to the source, a group of people will be chosen by him to help rebuild it.
This is what happens if and when "The One" chooses to enter the door that leads him back to the source.
-The code of the anomaly that he carries is disseminated from him and returned back to the main program.
-The One is then required to select from the Matrix 23 individuals to be set free and help in the rebuilding of Zion.
-The individual that was carrying the code is returned to the Matrix.
-The 23 freed by "The One" then begin the so called "Resistance" The process of freeing the people that are trapped inside the Matrix, and bringing them to the new Zion.
-After some time the anomaly will eventually begin to fluxuate again and pop up once again inside a new human, creating the return of "The One".
-The Oracle gives them the prophecy of the return of "The One" and tell them to go search for him.
-When he is found he is pulled out of the Matrix, he is then told about his abilities and the prophecy.
-The Sentinels are then ordered to head for Zion, to destroy it.
-"The One" is then told by the Oracle to find the keymaker and return to the source.
- When "The One" reaches the Architect this is where the two choices are given to him. By this time the sentinels are much closer to Zion, Neo is told that the sentinels will soon destroy Zion (which is true) and if he returns to the source and therefore returning the code, he will be given the chance to choose the 23 indivduals that will help in rebulding it. But if he doesn't comply then he will keep the code that gives him his abilities and the Sentinels will tear Zion appart but then he and the people of Zion will be responsible of stopping them.
-If he chooses to accept the deal and return to the source, then this entire process begins all over again.
Why all of this? It's simply control. If "The One" is busy trying to fulfill this mission and the so called "prophecy" it will keep him away from using the code of the unbalanced equation that he carries to get out of control. The Architect and the Oracle came up with this program to help keep the anomaly under control.
Architect - "As I was saying, she stumbled upon a solution whereby 99 percent of all test subjects will accept the program as long as they were given a choice, only if they were only aware of the choice at a near subconscious level. While this answer functioned it was fundamentally flawed thus creating the otherwise contradictory systemic anomaly that if left unchecked might threaten the system itself. Ergo, those that refused the program while a minority, if unchecked would constitute an escalating probability of disaster."
The longer Neo keeps the code the worst the bug becomes, the more he problems he can create, the more he can control the Matrix. He begins to start obtain extraordinary abilities like flying, moving at the speed of light, and maybe even assimilating some of the Oracle program's abilities.
Before each version of the Matrix is created it is designed based on predictability to best fit the mission of "The One". To make sure he accepts the mission and follows through. But now good ole Neo broke the loop and rejected the program, one reason being because of his love for Trinity. Now Revolutions is coming and the sentinels are heading for Zion and Smith is out of control (i'll create a post later of how smith got out of control and is threatening the entire Matrix) and it is up to Neo to stop him.
And this my friends is the long explaination of my theory of "The Function of The One" and the so called "Prophecy". Please any feedback
