Five glass theories?

Maybe the five glasses on the table of the Merovengian didn't represent anything it all. I really don't think it did, but maybe it represented the other 5 "one's" ? What are the best theories going around about this?

Personally I don't think it is very significant, but I'd really like to be proved wrong.

It's probably nothing, yet almost in The Matrix is filled with symbolism, so we cannot rule out that possibility. Good observation.

Unfortunately no one can be told what The Matrix is...You have to see it for yourself.

The previous five Ones had to go sit around the table with Merv to make a deal for the key or the Keymaker. They treated him with respect and made a deal with him.

Neo was the only one who 'stole' the Keymaker.
That's because he is in love. He thinks he can handle the world, so he disrespects the frenchman.

He is one of the oldest programs and he survived all of the Ones. So the glasses might symbolize that he survived/dealt with five Ones before.

1. When The Oracle is sitting in the bench, before she talks to Neo, she is feeding 5 crows. Now, some people say that crows represent the future. 5 crows represent sickness. Now, after that, more crows appear, and 6 or is a portent of death.

2. The Merovingian's restaurant in in the 101th level. You can see the number 101 written on a wall when Neo, Morpheus, and Trinity get down from the elevator and walk towards the host at the restaurant entrance. 101 is the binary representation of number 5. Of course this is not the only place 101 appears in all 3 movies.

1 x 1 = 1
0 x 2 = 0
1 x 4 = 4
-----------------------
1+0+4 = 5

I don't think so. Who said thaht the architect was always in the same building. I think that the Mérovingien stole the key maker for some reason that it is not said, cause he didn't try to get something from Neo in exchange of the key maker. I just think he use him after the fifth neo and oblige him to do all the key needed to open all the door of the matrix to get some idden power or find ancient program and used them as slave.

I agree. I don't know if you guys had noticed this before, but It seems to me that The Architect's room is in the same building the Merovingian's restaurant is in. Remember this passage when Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus are in the elevator.

Quote:

Morpheus: What can you see, Neo?
Neo: It's strange, the code is somehow different.
Morpheus: Encrypted?
Neo: Maybe.
Trinity: Is that good for us or bad for us?
Neo: Well, it looks like every floor is wired with explosives.
Trinity: Bad for us.

Pretty much like the way the building with The Architect's room is built.

Binary occurs in powers of two: 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and so on.

What five glasses? Were there five glasses on the table in Le Vrai? Wouldn't one of them belong to the Merovingian? And another one to Persephone?

By the way, the Architect doesn't LIVE in that building at all. The Architect's chamber is most probably a program running parallel to the Matrix. A separate program altogether. The door in the building is just the way the One can get access to the Architect's chamber.

Are you certain it is the same building as the Merovingian? It could just be coincidence. Maybe the Merovingian has just placed all those bombs for security reasons. If he does not control the bombs, it is quite a hazard for them to be staying there.

I understood from "Enter the Matrix" that the Merovingian destroyed the key for the One. So the Keymaker had to make another one.

So it couldn't be the key with which he would want to make a deal.

But then again, maybe he was just making sure that the key won't leak out to the rebels.
The Keymaker can make another key and he has extra knowledge that the rebels need. So I think he wanted to make a bargain.

He tells them to go back to the fortune-teller. This implies that the Oracle would give them the advise to make a deal with him.
Neo or Morpheus never stated that they wanted to make a deal. They just claimed the Keymaker and the Merovingian experienced this as rude.

So the Merovingian can have two motives:

-Using the Keymaker to make a lucrative deal with the One
-He wants the One to fail in reaching the Source, so that the Matrix would crash. This would fit in with his Satan-role. Satan wants the world and the people to fail and die in destruction.

The Mero would offcourse loose his luxurious playground when the Matrix dies down. But he would survive it. After all he is a stand-alone program from the machine-world.

Anyway, I still think that the five glasses represent the fact that he has survived five previous Ones. The name "Vrai" implies that this time he is meeting with the REAL One.

last time I watched Reloaded (and I can't confirm, cuz I loaned my dvd to my father-in-law) I counted SIX glasses in front of Merv.

Maybe I miscounted. Can anyone definitively confirm?

That was exactly my point. I'm just pointing out something I noticed in the movies.

At first I thought the 5 glasses in front of The Merovingian and the 3 chocolates in front of Persephone (she's Merv's Trinity) were just coincidence....until I saw the layout of Le Vrai (that's the restuarant's name) on the official site.

ON the official site if you look at the walls of Le Vrai, they are covered in the symbol LV-----LV is 55 in Roman Numerals.

We saw this with Trinity and Neo: Trinity in a room marked 303 and Neo in appartment 101. So Merovingian being surrounded by "55", fits this pattern
.

Neo is One number 6. Merv wasn't number 5, because he mentioned Neo's predecessors, indicating that he wasn't the "One" imediately before Neo.

I think he's the First One....the 5th to precede Neo. I mean, he's the only guy besides Neo (or the Architect) that writes his own code, and the whole "He was once like you, Neo..." thing.

This is interesting, because The Merovingian is implied to come from an earlier build of the Matrix, one of the more hedonistic ones probably (I hold that there was more than one early build).

So The Merovingian as the First One may have originated in the later days of the First Matrix; thus the Club Hel attitude about life.

How could he have stayed alive for so many centuries? His body didn't. There are those that say Neo separated his mind from his body so much that although his body is dead, his mind has become pure program and continues in the Matrix.

The Merovingian could have undergone a similar process; starting as the human First One, then having his mind transcribed into pure code.

If the Merovingian was a human, how could he live during the first versions of the Matrix, considering how long the Matrix has existed?
