[Matrix Reloaded]
Niobe: "What if all this - the prophecy, everything - is bullshit?"
Morpheus: "Then tomorrow we may all be dead, but how would that be different from any other day? This is a war, and we are soldiers. Death can come for us at any time, in any place..."
Morpheus: "Now consider the alternative. What if I am right? What if the prophecy is true? What if tomorrow the war could be over. Isn't that worth fighting for? Isn't that worth dying for?"

In the movie the architect says :
“A solution whereby nearly 99% of all test subjects accepted the program, as long as they were given a choice…. (As long as it was at the unconscious level)... While this answer functioned, it was obviously fundamentally flawed, thus creating the... systemic anomaly. Thus the answer was stumbled upon by another. An intuitive program, initially created to investigate certain aspects of the human psyche. If I am the father of the matrix, she would undoubtedly be its mother."
Neo: "The Oracle"
Architect: "Please."
The way the Architect says please leads me to believe The Oracle is not the Mother of the Matrix. It is my theory that Persephone is the Mother of the Matrix. There are three parts in the movie that have led me to believe this.
1. Neo’s first encounter with Persephone (as well as Morpheus and Trinity) he is given a choice
‘If you want the key maker then follow me’ Neo and friends follow her into the bathroom where they are given another choice. Which leads to #2
2.In the bathroom Persephone tells them that she will help them, but first she wants a kiss. After some typical reactions Neo kisses her and then she leads them to the key maker (or where they are holding him, note how she jesters them to go forward to the door and does not open it herself.)
3. When they reach the mansion, Persephone introduces the trio to Cain and Abel. (amazingly Abel is the one who gets shot!) After shooting Abel, Persephone tells Cain that:
‘You can either run and tell my husband what I have done, or you can stand there and die.’ Another choice.
Let me know your thoughts!

Considering your nick name and the fact it is your first post, I really expected something better Wink

These topics were well discussed in many sites and threads, and thats why
there are so many threads like "Persephone is the mother of matrix, niobe is the mother of matrix, Madonna is the mother of matrix... and so on"

Hey, not too fast. "Persephone is the mother because she gives choice" is a good argument. Have added it.

I also think Persephone could be the Mother of the Matrix in a similar way as eve is the mother of mankind, and of course merovingian would then be the antecessor of the "ones" to follow (although not actually being a "one"). Following the eve analogy- the first Matrix that failed could have been their own "paradise lost".

The wrench though is that the Architect calls the Mother of the Matrix (or MOM- haha) an intuitive program. That indicates that the MoM would have a certain cognitive insight, or the power or faculty of knowledge or apprehension of attaining knowledge without rational thought or inference ('cause that's what my dictionary explains "intuition" as), and regardless of the disdainful "please" the Architect replies with, I dont see these qualities in any other program thus so far except for the Oracle. In fact it kinda describes the Oracle fairly accurately.

But I dont sit idly by, I'm planning a big surprise, I'm gonna fight for what I want to be

What choice?

Just curious here but what choice did Persephone actually give?
It seem to me the choice is akin to the Terminator when he says "Come with me if you want to live".

She is not the mother!

Persephone comes from the Iliad and the Odyssee. She is the daughter of Demeter and Zeus and wife of Hades (The Merovingian! why else would they be married)...

Quote:

Persephone The beautiful daughter of Demeter and Zeus, Persephone is the focus of the story resulting in the division of the seasons, giving us the sweetness of Spring and the bitterness of Winter. Hades did not woo the beautiful Persephone, he abducted her and took her to his underground kingdom. After much protest, Persephone came to love the cold blooded king of the underworld but her mother, Demeter, was consumed with rage and sorrow. She demonstrated her anger by punishing the earth’s inhabitants, gentle and fierce with bitter cold and blustering winds. Unless Persephone was returned of to her mother’s side, the earth would perish.
Herakles came to the rescue. He entered the kingdom of Hades and negotiated a compromise between the (usually cold and selfish) Hades and the (usually loving and caring) Demeter. All agreed that Persephone would to spend part of the year with her husband, Hades, and part of the year with her mother, Demeter.
When Persephone is with Hades the earth is wracked by the sorrow of her mother. But, when Persephone returns from the underworld to walk the earth again, Demeter pours forth the blessings of Spring to welcome her beloved daughter home.

Therefore the Mother is someone like Demeter... If Persephone is with Hades (The Merovingian) it is winter in the Matrix... If Persephone is with the Mother and probably in Zion it will be summer.... Allthough this may be the other way around because Zion could be the Underworld and that would be Hades' turf... But seeing the Brothers like twists they might have made the 'good' world (Zion, below the ground) into the underworld and the Matrix into Hell!

Pfwew...

Bye!
