Just thought about this today, no clue if anyone else has come up with it.

i think the clues to the Matrix are coming out slowly via the web game they are holding at the moment. Going through those websites and the films i hit on this.

What if the actually Matrix and the 'real world' are one whole game devolped by Metacortex in the actual world.

1. Check on their products page they are asking people to test their new gamex system with the tage line ' Are you ready to enter another world'.

2. Imagine that the people awoken in the real worl are simply Beta testers for the VR game.

3. The main roles ie Neo, Trinity etc are played by people from Metacortex. Chgeck the missing people sites, could these people be missing because they are playing the VR game. Could the missing man and missing women be Neo and Trinty.

4. Alot of posts are linking the Merovingian to Steven Walsh of Metacortex. Could others be linked to the Matrix ie Regenhardt, David, could he be Morpheus?

5. I think The One has always looked like the current one (neo) as it is the same programmer testing the system (My money is still on it being the missing man on the web, which is most likely James Avery)

6. Agent Smith is part of the game, and is a program. You know when you buy games you have a detail on the back of them about. Coudl the game be the Matrix is about to crash at the hands of Agent Smith, you must add Neo and others to save the matrix. Remember in Reloaded Agent Smith stated 'its happening like it happened before'. Coudl it be once Smith is defeated the game reboots and you start again.

I could go on, see what you think, poke holes etc

I don`t know if you have watched the movie "eXistenz" by David Cronenberg or not, but if you did not, I would highly recommend it not only as a superb movie, but you`d find surprising facts regarding your hopythesis.

Considering the W-Bros influences, I definitely think that the Matrix could have been done like this. But, because of eXistenZ, the 13th Floor, etc. I belive they will do something new and wonderful. The coldness of VR would mar the humanity in these films.

and a 5-years-production trilogy would be just a preparation for a online game?

millions os movie-watcher to sell a game for a brunch of geeks ? definetly not...

Im not saying that the Matrix was done to sell games...what i thought was the Matrix is based on being one huge game and the current online sites are hints of what is about to come.

I have neither seen exsistenz nor 13th floor so i do tend to agree that i doubt they would replicate those movies.....but then again who knows?

Yesterday I revised Animatrix and it seems I comprehended the all. Eight of a nine animates somehow or other talk about the Matrix. But one (Matriculated) are non-substantive. It cartoon nothing add nothing diminish in the Matrix story. In fact it cartoon keep a clue of trilogy.

Who is Neo? Neo is machine!!! Machine which people try “reeducate” (try make it’s most humane)!!!
What is the Matrix and Zion? These are program that was righted by peoples to “reeducate” machines!
How it work? In REAL WORLD (which probably similar to Zion) people take machine (Neo) plug it’s to virtual world where Neo became a man programmed to save the world. Some people (probably Trinity, Morpheus, Architect, councilor and other) plug to it virtual world too (see Matriculated). In this world each of them plays their own role. Purpose of it peculiar game - “reeducate” machine and then to make sure that it is already occur. How it can be does? In the end machine must have some humane feeling! In this trilogy it is LOVE!!! True love!!! It virtual world plan so that it take place a crisis when Neo must make choice – sacrifice to fate of humanity for women who Neo love!!! Five times before machines choose right-hand door in Architect room and so they act by already having program. But Neo choose left door although he know that it maybe end of human race. Neo perform true humane action!!! Machine is ready!!!

I think in final of trilogy we’ll see how Neo unplug and HAPPY END!!!!!!!

I think that only this theory decline all absurdity!!!

Some of these:

1. People of Zion with eases create and use technology and engineering which is several orders greater than that they work with in the Matrix. If there are programmers among your, imagine that tomorrow it offer to you create (for example) boot shell like that was demonstrated in M1.
If I aright understand, Zion’s people can’t make scientific investigations, i.e. create all these things themselves because for that it is necessary too much time (ages)!!! Anyway it so much times was required for humanity to create modern civilization (and number of peoples was not only 2500).

2. from other my own post:
I have main argument that Zion can’t be a real.
It is simply impossible, because world without sun can’t exist!!! All these story about powerstation with peoples as source of energy – bullshit!!!!!!!! It is impossible!!!!!!!!
It is science!!!
I don’t think that WB don’t know so common thing! So there is one possible explanation – ZION IS NOT A REAL WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Repeat, if it will be found that Zion is real world then whole trilogy – big bullshit!!!!!!!!
It will be so sad…

As far as for my reply, I have never intended to say that Matrix trilogy was a "replicate", a "remake" or a "rip-off" of any movie. But the theory you have proposed has been very well portrayed in eXistenZ.

I hope you could find a copy and watch it, to see your theory on your TV screen.
