Does anyone know the real purpose of the angel programs?

What do you exactly mean?

According to the Oracle conversation with Neo in Reloaded, it is the system assimlating something a program is not supposed to be doing. Angels, vampires, aliens, etc. in the Matrix are a direct result of that. Just like the Oracle said, "The ones that are doing their jobs are invisible." So you never know they are there. That is why everyone connected to the Matrix is oblivious from the truth.

I believe I know what maester is talking about. Many users here have coined the term `angel program'. Many of them saw the connection even before they came here and they all called them `angel programs'.

Basically, we look at 2 characters as examples- Seraph and Merovingian. Seraph's obvious role as a guardian and protector labels him as an angel; that is unless his name does not ring a bell. The Seraphim were angel type beings who served under God and did his bidding. They had 6 pairs of wings and their love for God burned like fire (Remember the fire code we saw Seraph in). Anyway, the Merovingian is a Devil/Lucifer type figure. Lucifer was one of the most beautiful angels who got jealous or greedy or something and left God to go to the dark side. He took with him 1/3 of the angels. The mythology of these two characters makes us think that there were some angel like programs in the first matrix. Read Paradise Lost for more on the angel revolt.

What many posters think is that the angel programs, including Seraph and Merv, served the Architect in the 1st matrix (Garden of Eden version). They were also around in the second version. Near the end of the second version, Merv led the angel revolt when he became an exile and left for the dark side. He took with him the various exile programs we see- Twins, Cain, Abel, Cujo, Vlad. This makes Merv's role as Lucifer more obvious.

Thats the connection on angel programs.

I guess the angel programs just do what the Architect wants. Just like the agents. Some people think that when the angel programs were there, there were no agents.

So God is represented by the Architect.

And the angels are just guardian programs like Serraph? They also are told whatto do by the Architect. If that is true, then why does Serraph work the Oracle, who is the polar opposite enemy of the Architect?

My apologies, please scratch that last post. I answered my own question. By the way, I believe and are for sure it was 2/3 of the angels in heaven that revolted against God.

I think the true nature of Merv is a lot more complicated than Seraph.

The Merovingians are a real life family of French Lords who claim to be the ancestors of Christ. A Christ that did not die and go to heaven. From what I understand, they claim that he remained on Earth and lived a mortal life.

I believe the use of the term Merovingian has several meanings. It suggests that perhaps the Merovingian served an important purpose when he was still a program under the control of the system. Perhaps he was connected to the Architect in some way (fulfilling the history of the name and the Merovingian family claim that they are related to God).

Otherwise, throughout history the Merovingian Lords have been wealthy French aristocrats who have surrpounded themselves with luxuries as the Mervovingian program does. Perhaps this is as far as the meaning of the usage of the name goes. The abuse of such luxuries implies decadence, paving the way for the inherent evil of Merv.

Also, keep in mind perhaps the most important point:

The Merovingians claim that Christ did not ascend to heaven and instead chose to remain on Earth. Christ was the first "Merovingian".

What do exiles do when they are deleted? They choose to remain in the Matrix instead of returning to the source (which, to Neo, appears to be a heavenly light). The Merovingian is thought of as perhaps the first exile, much like Christ was, according to the Merovingian Lords.

Throughout the trilogy, Neo is thought of as a Messiah. As Christ. And what does Persephone utter to Neo in Reloaded?

When we first came here he was so different. He was more like you...

Yet after remaining in the Matrix, Merv descended to evil. Now he is like Hades in Greek mythology and has a wife, Persephone, who is the rebellious wife of Hades. When this downfall occurred, he took with him several of the angel programs and employed them. This included Seraph.

Yet Seraph was then turned back to good by the Oracle.
