What do I know about the music?
Other than that it's awsome and it's a shame that the soundtrack wasn't considered for the Oscar`s....not much
What do I know about the lyrics?....Well,... I know them. What do I make of them?... Well....that's a long story (that I have to make very short, so... sorry for oversimplifying things a lot):
From delusion lead me to truth
That's one sentence from the lyrics, that you hear at the beginning of the grand final, the super brawl, as well as at the moment of Neo's death and during the end credits.
That's the sentence that, in my opinion, describes Neo's journey throughout the trilogy.
From delusion lead me to truth
From darkness lead me to light
from death lead me to immortality
Neo's path begins as a human who subconsciously chooses to reject his virtual life, but only when he is beeing awakened from his pod and shown the real world, does he understand his choice.
He has grown his consciousness. He is now aware of the virtuality of the Matrix, but he doesn't understand it to it's full extend.
Only when - beeing virtually dead - he hears Trinity speak to him (Neo in Reloaded: "Trinity,...I know you can hear me"), does he really understand it. Two things come together at that moment:
A virtual death in the Matrix means that the mind believes it is dead and this translates to the body in the real world, since, when plugged into the Matrix, the mind shuts off it's contact to the real world.
But the deep bond of love between Neo and Trinity can overcome this blockade.
IMO two people who are deeply in love, become two parts of a whole. If the eyes of your lover were a mirror,...what would you see? A wonderful, lovable yourself.
So, at that moment, Neo sees himself (metaphorically spoken) through Trins eyes as the One and he believes it.
Since he is aware of Trinity speaking to him, he cannot be dead. He understands that his death is only virtual and that he can overcome it.
By gaining this deep understanding of the virtuality and his power to overcome it, he lifts it's vail -> does he gain access to the source of the virtuality, the code.
He has, again, grow his consciousness.
Throughout Reloaded and Revolutions, Neo grows his consciousness on several layers:
He gains an understanding of the complexity, functioning and vulnerability of the machine world and it's right to exist.
He gains an understanding of the correlation between man and machine.
He gains an understanding of the right way for man and machíne to go on together.
....
And when - by constantly growing his consciousness - he finally and fully understands his connection with the source,.... he is able to communicate with it.
And when Neo finally understands, that he has to surrender to Smith, he has found the middle path; Neo has found enlightenment; in this state of enlightment his code is downloaded to the source, it is disseminated throughout the source. I understand this as Neo becoming the essence of the source, the "spirit of the Matrix Universe" - thus the "Buddha on the lotus" metaphor of Neo glowing in the light of the source in the end
Neo's path from delusion to truth, IMO, is one huge metaphor for the path to enlightenment in the (what little I understand of) "eastern" sense. That doesn't negate your Christian understading of Neo's path. IMO it combines both.
So how do the lyrics - that you can hear during the final fight - play into my understanding? (Well,... actually,... these lyrics have caused my understanding as it is)...
Again, these lines are from the Upanisad, sacred texts of Hinduism dealing with broad philosophical questions:
From delusion lead me to truth
From darkness lead me to light
From death lead me to immortality.
-> as explained above
Beyond the senses is the mind, and beyond the mind is reason, its essence. Beyond reason is the Spirit in man, and beyond this is the Spirit of the Universe, the evolver of all.
-> the path from a regular human beeing -> growing consciousness -> to becoming the spirit of the "Matrix" universe.
When the five senses and the mind are still, and reason itself rests in silence, then begins the Path supreme.
-> Neo has transcended desire and suffering. By surrendering to Smith, the reason for him is gone, he has made peace -> Neo has attained Nirvana
In him are woven the sky and the earth and all the regions of the air, and in him rest the mind and all the powers of life. Know him as the ONE and leave aside all other words. He is the bridge of immortality.
-> Neo beeing the essence of the source, as explained above -> the source is the essence of the Matrix, as well as the life essence of all machine life -> Neo has become the spirit of the (Matrix) universe....
During the end credits we can hear the song Navras. It is a mixture of classic, techno and Indian music. You can hear an Indian flute and Lakshmi Shankar, who obviously is a very famous indian singer. And what are the lyrics?
Sanskrit:
asato ma sad gamaya
tamaso ma jyotir gamaya
mrtyor mamrtam gamaya
Om shanti shanti shanti
English:
From delusion lead me to truth
From darkness lead me to light
From death lead me to immortality.
Let there be peace everywhere
Again, IMO this is ONE way to understand the trilogy, as is the "Christian" way. Both are legitimate, as are many others. But I don't think you can legitimately say, Neo is ONLY Christ, as does Raksasha69. There is too much proof of eastern influences.
IMO it is one of the great aspects of the trilogy,... that it manages to combine different religions, make us aware of the many aspects they have in common and make them complement one another.
