At the end of the super burly brawl in the crater Neo turns into a smith then all of the smiths explode.

Did anyone notice the subtle camera shot after all the smiths blow?

It took me a couple of viewings to notice but the body laying dead in the centre of the crater IS the ORACLE.

After anhiliating each other the remainder is the Oracle.

This ties in with loads of references throughout the movies.

e.g.

when neo goes to the oracle and gets frustrated with "who" is deciding what the oracle tells him or who is deciding when he is ready to be told - she points again at the sign in the kitchen "KNOW THYSELF".

when neo is talking to Sati's father neo asks "do you know the oracle?" he replies "everybody knows the oracle"!

everyone is the oracle - the oracle is everyone.

neo and smith just represent the extremes or opposite "ends" of her.

the oracle is there because the smith that fights neo is the one who assimilated the oracle...hence he is the one who says to neo

"yes i know it does(ends tonight)ive seen it...that way the rest of me is just gonna enjoy the show, cause we already know that im the one who beats you"

sati woke up where the smith that assimilated her was lying and no doubt everybody else woke up where the smith that assimilated them were lying

So I guess based on diemkai's logic. If the sati was remaining body showned after that fight, then

Sati=Neo + Smith Thumbdown

You are right - Sati = Neo + smith

and everyone = Neo + smith

Neo + Smith = Everything

this is all getting a little bit too mathematical for me!

but I see the architect as the mathematician who provides the logic for the substance of the matrix "the stuff" the rules of the code - the Oracle is the genius who splits this substance into entities which can de differentiated from one another. She makes things - she makes everything - ulitimately everything just ended up being two "polar opposite lumps" - a lump of Neo and a lump of Smith. ying yang and all that. Then they anhilated each other in the fight at the end.

I agree with what was said before - where the smith fell - the assimilated person rose. But I still say Oracle = Smith + Neo is the main equation.

I won't use maths any more - it doesnt really explain what I'm trying to say (English doesn't seem to work that well either!)

Your theories are outlandish in my opinion.

The Oracle is a program that is responsible for stablising the system via presenting a choice to the people of the Matrix. She isn't the "substance" of the Matrix. This Smith + Neo = Oracle thing is incorrect.

Neo is the result of humanity's unpredictability and the Oracle. Smith (the new smith) is the result of Neo's merging with him.

The Oracle is lying there (which is blatantly obvious) because the Smith that was fighting Neo was the Smith that assimilated the Oracle.

Smith possesses the foresight of the Oracle. However, the Oracle still exists within Smith and 'censors' his foresight.

When Smith foresees his final battle with Neo, he witnesses the entire conflict up until the very end of the crater fight.

Neo: It ends tonight.
Smith: I know it does, I've seen it! We already know that I'm the one that beats you.

When he lifts Neo up and punches him to the ground, Neo's position makes it appear very much like he is dead. This is as far as Smith has seen. The Oracle inside Smith has only allowed Smith to see this far. Smith now assumes that Neo is dead. According to his vision, this is where he is victorious:

Smith: I've seen this! Yes this is it! This is the end!

However, at this point, the Oracle speaks through Smith to convey her last message to Neo. This gives him the courage and wisdom to once again stand and face Smith.

Smith is now confused and frightened. According to his vision, Neo should be dead!

Smith: No, this isn't right! This can't be right!

Neo stands tall and once the again the battle is ready to start again. But Smith is completely unprepared for any such continuation and begins to panic. He no longer has any assurance that he can win or that there can even be a winner. He backs off.

Smith: Get away from me!
Neo: What are you afraid of?
Smith: Its a trick!

Everything Smith has placed confidence in turns out to simply be a ploy by the Oracle to defeat Smith.

Neo: You were right Smith. You were always right. It was inevitable

Neo realises that he must sacrifice himself. Now, uncertain and afraid, Smith acts in desperation and makes one last attempt to assimilate Neo. Neo makes no attempt to stop him like in Reloaded and accepts his destiny with serenity.

When the Neo/Smith begins to explode, Smith mutters:

Smith: No no no. It's not fair!

Everything Smith has sought to acheive. Everything he was certain of has been a mistake. And now, so close to his goal, so close to domination (or so he thought) he is defeated. In Smith's eyes, it's just not fair.

When Smith and Neo merge, they become one. With Neo directly connected to the source, it is the Deus Ex Machina that balances the equation now that he has both Smith and Neo together in the one shell. With the balance struck, both Smith and Neo are deleted.

The Oracle (and everyone who was assimilated by Smith like Sati) is left lying in the street.

Notice that only programs (Sati, the Oracle) woke up at the place where the "dead" Smiths lay.

Have in mind that, since there has been a relaoding, everyone had to forget what happened or else the secret of the matrix would be discovered. Hence the cat with the "déjà-vu" effect. Meaning that everyone woke up wherever he was before that Smith "turned public".

I agree with just about everything you have said regarding the sequence of events throughout the super brawl. Don't try and take what I am saying too literally - I never meant that the oracle is actually the susbstance of the matrix. Smile

I'll try and explain a bit - I find it hard to explain this bit and why I think its relevant - I'm not trying to disagree with the obvious synopsis e.g. the progression and result of the smith / neo thing. This is obviously a focal point - but I find it difficult to simply accept an expaination such as

"the oracle is a program that is respnsible for stabilising the system via presenting a choice to the people of the matrix"

BUT not because it doesn't fit with the movies - obviously the concept of programs is simple when considered against the plot of the films - however, I don't agree with this wording 100% - the oracle is responsible for stabilising the system through her actions (I will explain later) but the Architect is also responsible for the actual balance - remember the oracle says that it is his job to balance and her job to "unbalance" - therefore it is obviously a bit deeper than her just stabilising - in fact her stabilizing is achieved by unbalancing - the oracle and the architect's actions together balance the matrix - whether they are called "PROGRAMS"* are not I find less important - but what does this REALLY mean?

(*Every expaination can obviously be criticised as "just a word" but remember it is "THE CONNECTION" that word provides that matters (remember the mobil ave discussion). I don't like to stop at the "oracle is a program that is responsible....etc" becasue i think the W' Brothers have other "layers" of meaning in the story.)

I like to think about what the meaning behind "the oracle is a program that is....". This may sound strange to some people but its what I really enjoy about the movies....

Anyway:

The overall balance of the matrix acheived by the actions of the architect and oracle. Their actions work together in different but very necessary ways. I look at it like this - The architect only wants to achieve mathematical balance - thats basically his job - his purpose - to stop it being unbalanced.

Now an analogy (to mathematics) - The easiest way for balance to be achieved would be for him to sum a series of zero's - i.e. gauranteed perfect balance - unfortunately this would be a rather dull existence and the human population would very rapidly reject this "zero" scenario (depending how you want to look at it the humans would either "wake up" from the matrix or would infact would be dead - thats another discussion).

The oracles purpose is to introduce extremes, differences leading to the concept of choice (unbalance**)- however these extremes, differences or choices are only possible if the opposite exists in order for overall balance to be achieved - we can explain this using "words" we use such as love/hate - birth/death - hot/cold - good/evil - light/dark - neo/smith....etc etc etc.

(** what she is doing here is not really unbalancing - because to introduce an extreme its opposite must also be present otherwise balance cannot be achieved. Another analogy - consider a "see-saw" or pair of scales - we start with everyting in the centre - balanced! - to everytime we put add something to one side we must add something to other to balance it - you can add small things or big things - but the simple rules of balance must be observed - so she's not actually unbalancing but she can put some very big things on each side - e.g. a neo and a smith)

Everything is a balance between two opposites/extremes - the functioning of the matrix itself is even a balance - the architect and the oracle themselves balance each other and balance the operation of the matrix.

remember the architects quote to the oracle at the end of M3 - "you played a very dangerous game" - I think he means that in this version of the matrix she pushed the extremes and opposites to their limit with the smith / neo thing nearlly getting out of conrtol - maybe the architect even believed smith would win - the Oracle knew what she was doing all along - it was inevitalbe. What was inevitable you ask? ....balance!

The architect is the SQUARE the oracle is the REBEL. Opposites again.

We either have what we have or we have nothing. What the architect is effectively providing is the mathematics which give the rules of the apparent substance around us - like elementary physical rules, but if this were it and everything were made of the same stuff there would appear to be nothing. The oracle provides "existence" simply by serving up the substance in a rich way - extremes and opposites - in order for us to know what we are we must also experience what we are not (otherwise there is nothing).[/quote]

Yes that's perfectly acceptable and correct. The Oracle and The Architect are equals and opposites just as Smith and Neo are. I have always believed that.

But the line Oracle = Smith + Neo is still a wee bit misleading.

I understand what you are saying. Don't worry. The Oracle pushes everything to a chaotic limit with Smith and Neo etc. I get it, don't worry.

But the title itself suggests other, confusing meanings.

Essentially what you are saying is that "Neo/Smith are the Oracle's tool to create peace".
