»The best explanation doing the rounds in my mind«

Once again I think I have got the meaning of purpose.

As I said “I am a fan”, and a fervent one for that. I have seen The Matrix god-knows-how-many times and I have analyzed it to the hilt.

Finally after about a hundred plus hours of brainstorming, I have begun understanding a link in the trilogy. I will explain what happened in the end of Revolutions here as concisely as I can. Those who want an alternative view may want to read ‘Fate explains it all’ by the genius that is me.

The Matrix and Revolutions’ end sequences are very closely related as shown below:

1. The burly brawls start with the same clenching of fists and the same music in both the films.

2. In both the movies Neo starts energetically, and starts feeling tired.

3. In both the films when he bleeds through the mouth, he stands up and performs the ‘Come and get me’ move.

4. After this he gets an upper hand for a short while, but is beaten again by Smith.

5. Then he is about to die, but with a final surge of power he manages to defeat Smith again. (The subway scene in The Matrix, where he mutters ‘My name is Neo’; and in Revolutions the punch in the crater which sends Smith flying into the crater’s wall).

6. And then Smith defeats Neo. (Neo was shot in the chest in The Matrix; while he was punched into ground by Smith in Revolutions).

7. After that Neo rises again, and realizes the truth leading to the destruction of Smith.

What does this analogy prove?

That both The Matrix and Revolutions have in essence the same end.

In Revolutions, Neo realized the final truth that his purpose in life was to have an end. That the only way to destroy Smith was from within as he had done in The Matrix. Instead of flying into Smith however, he had to spread like a virus through him. The better way of doing this was to let Smith take him over. He knew that was the only way out of the trouble and he did that.
