This is my first post so please forgive me.
My immediate response to seeing the matrix 3 was , what? ]
but now i understand that feeling.
when going to the movies and
after paying to watch other films i found my self ditching the movie / s I had gotten tickets to go check out the final matrix again, and again, and again.
I love the film,
time has passed
but recently I have been having dreams of it, where I see the 4 and 5th matrices, neos character still present, still the center, but dead.
Ill get back to that later.
I want to respond to these comments

Hell, where do we see how the deterioration of the matrix occurs bit by bit?

The reason this type of thing happens in this movie a whole lot is because there is not enough time, in film a shot goes like this

Mike picks up the phone and on the other line is his ex-girlfriend
MIKE
"Hello who is this, o hey how are you"
scene fades to restaurant local where he is finishing his wine after the meal they shared.

What just happened? Did mike time travel? Maybe he is the one?
No he didn’t time travel, no he isn’t the one, we can assume that he talked to her, had a makeup conversation and they decided to meet one another, took a crap, he took a shower , drove to the restaurant and \ or picked her up, or was picked up and they sat and ate their meal.
But we come to these conclusions, without having to be shown what happens because we can mentally fill in the gaps.
The problem with the matrix 2 and 3 is things move in such a rapid pace a bunch of things need to be glossed over to keep it from being 100 hours long, on top of a game and Animatrix. Most movies get away with this scott free, (because of their non epic scale, and without having to go into LOTR 4 hour marathons, in which people who read the books still believe a lot gets lost) but the problem with the matrix is all these little things would be really cool to see, id love to see smith hijack the matrix piece by piece, neo learn to fly, and all those fan ideas and lit. ect. but we can come to those conclusions ourselves and imagine these characters and situations, write the stuff and share it.
Zion is real
Why do we see gold? Is Zion a matrix within a matrix? No. the reason I believe we see gold is because, in the 2nd matrix we go on “rides” ( because of the bigger budget, in the first one we see code for a few seconds because its very expensive) in which we see that the objects in the matrix are made up of code, code that governs their existence in that world, this is conveyed visually with the green matrix code. Well in “our” world everything is made up of smaller parts, materials, elements, atoms, and to the furthest extent energy positive and negative. Either way in the matrix or in the real world people cannot see components like these because they are hidden or too small. So the artists represent this with using very large matrix code to show how neo sees things and since neo is a programmer / hacker he is able to learn new code languages and master them, helped by his “one” powers, because he starts to believe in himself (especially when blinded and has no choice) he is able to translate his matrix abilities over into the real world. And the artists show us this to the best of their abilities unknowing that they will cause further confusion. And yes I believe he could have flown to the machine city, and saved trinity in the end as well, but he doubted the extent of his powers and didn’t even attempt such a thing, and unless he believed in himself fully would not havegained mind over matrix, or in our world mind over matter and would fail, just like when he fell from the jump test in the first installment. But anyhow, Zion is real they just tried to show the coloration between worlds I think.
Why no twists?
Because twist are lame, too many twists ruins a movie you have to accept what you see on screen or reject it (leave the theater and cry and be cynical, like so many people who think they could write a better movie, yet don’t, and have never made a movie, or don’t know jack sh#t about a lot of sh#t)
