The machines have created a copy of the world (city) where he lived when he made the first program. This is just like how humans have studied our own history to understand ourselves better.

The only problem is that he keeps waking up because it's flawed, so they have to continue to improve the Matrix.

Now (the 6th time around) the AI have finally made the Matrix perfect (It's capable of emulating true love), and for the first time in his life(s), Thomas Anderson feel it.

( This is better known as the Love-Boat-Matrix-Theory )

Perfect love? Is this the reason why they finally run around with leather and latex? H&M -> Humans and Machines

That has nothing to do with it. Every person in the Matrix is free to choose his or her own clothes, but the characters fashion choices are influenced by the distorted sexual preferences of one of the brothers.

Ergo, some of the characters will make you horny, and some will not. Which takes us to Trinity, who looks more like a man in Reloaded. I guess thats why we got Persephone. Twisted Evil

Why do they all wear sunglasses? Why are most people in Zion coloured? And also...what does their appearance in the matrix depend on? Do they chose what they wear or is it just how they turn out?

Well, I really liked Trinitys shiny pvc in M1 in the first scenes of the movie, but I agree that she should have removed it completely for the rest of M1. In M2 she's a man, and should dress like one.

Dont be cruel. she's a good actress! btw what is it with keanu's monotonous voice? i've seen him in other films and i admit his not the BEST of actors but he doesnt always have a monotonous voice in the other films. Is this a clue that he could be a program?

They can equip themselves with anything (guns, vehicles, etc.), so I guess they can wear the clothes they want to wear.

Yes, she is. Have you seen "Memento"? She's just great. But she still looks like a man in M2 (Neos dream sequence, etc.).

Mr. Green

Hey I got another one: The thriller itself is not criminal. As the pathological institute is not pathological Very Happy

But the real question here is how many of us would drink the beer after Carrie-Anne Moss spit in it.
