What choice are people given that makes the matrix somewhat balanced?

i don't thing that there is someone or something that gives them the choice. good question but i thing that people (i suppose you mean people in matrix and not people from zion) made their choices by themself.

It's on a near unconscious level. Neo realised there was something wrong so he had made the choice to leave. The matrix warriors then got him out.

If Neo hadn't felt that there was something wrong they wouldn't be able to free him because he wouldn't have made the choice.

exactly. The choice to except the Matrix program, and live out your life blissfully unaware, and never feel skeptical about the realness of it all. This is the choice that 99.9% make. The other choice is to not except the program, and to try to get out. That's the 1.1% part.

Where did you get this figure from? The achitect just says that most people would accept the program if they were given a choice. He doesn't say 99% would accept it.
