I agree with Splintey on this one.

Neo's Life: I think the system chooses, because he was showing signs of the One loooong before he met the Oracle.
So how long has he been showing sign sof being the one? infant , teen years or adult stage?

Ok let's say "the one" code was implanted, during birth or during infant stage, so would that mean it stays dormant for 28 years or whatever, until discover by morpheus?

What if Neo(thomas anderson) had a car accident at age of 3 and die ? So that mean Neo would die taking "the one" code with him. Do you see where I'm going with this? It's an interesting thought if you think about it.

That is the reason why I don't think "the one" program/code is implanted prematurely at birth or infant stage, but later in Neo's life. The question is when was it implanted?

In the matrix, I believe that the system is the fate-maker, so to speak. It can control what happens and when. Therefore, if Neo DID have the code his entire life, the system wouldn't allow him to die.

Ok guys, here it is:

Morpheus: Hello Neo. Do you know who this is?
Neo: Morpheus.
Morpheus: Yes. I've been looking for you, Neo. I don't know if you're ready to see what I want to show you, but unfortunately you and I have run out of time.

Morpheus: This line is tapped, so I must be brief. They got to you first, but they've underestimated how important you are. If they knew what I know, you'd probably be dead.
Neo: What are you talking about. What...what is happening to me?
Morpheus: You are the one, Neo. You see you may have spent the last few years looking for me, but I've spent my entire life looking for you. Now do you still want to meet?

This clearly shows that Neo carried the anomolous One code from a long time back. Morpehus and his crew have been trying to find the One for a long time and have been unsuccessful. They have recently suspected that Neo could be the One. Thats why it is at this stage of his life that Morpheus has contacted Neo. Also Morpehus might be waiting for what he thinks is the right time to tell Neo. Check out the first dialog which takes place at Neo's office. "I dont know whether...."

As for whether Neo could have gotten killed etc....VERY GOOD question. Someone recently brought this up in another post as well. I guess the most simple answer is that the Matrix system prevents the death of the One, as Emilee said. Remember, its all controlled by computers. So the system could just make sure that Neo doesn't die somehow or the other.

yeah, I think so, too. And remember, a LOT of people don't have anything bad happen causing them to die like that (for a long time, at least).
wow! 3 pages! This must be a record of some sort!
As for the child/teen/adult thing, I don't really think it matters. I think as soon as the system recognizes these qualities, it sticks it on him. AND IT STAYS WITH HIM.That's all that matters.

TRUE! --nervous --very, very dreadfully nervous I had been and am; but why will you say that I am mad?

Thank God! I don't need to hear any more of this One code nonsense any longer! I just needed to know that it wasn't in that blasted cookie.

Whitelaugh I know what you mean. I mean, Jeez, I've posted against this in like, 5 different places, and STILL no one will believe me! Complain I mean, I think it's a suckie explaination in the first place, especially since there's so much proof against it, but that's just me.

I can accept the idea that the machine protected Neo and make sure he does'nt die because they have control over his life. But it's hard for me to think machine can be fatemaker. If that is the case, then they could see everyone's fate from the start and keep them from entering the Matrix so there is no future rebels running around to cause unstability in the matrix.

I don't believe in fate so I guess it's hard for me to see it from the fate angle. I believe the "choice" we make in life have a "cause and effect". It all begins with choice and the "cause and effect" comes after as a consequence of the choice we make. Therefore, we do have "some" control in our lives, and not some fate determing it for us.

In real life, If someone's fate is to be a movie star at the age 40. This individual goes through some depression periods in his teen years and tries to commit sucide 100 times. It's hard for me to accept that some miraculous power will save him 100 times so his fate will come true.

Ok.. enough with my fate rant.... let's move on Cool

So we are back to the code was implanted earlier stage of Neo's life. I'm cool with that as that is my orginal belief. I thought the other posibilities was interesting just wanted to share and see peoples' comments.

Other potentials?
Then what do you guys think the priestest in the Oracle 's place mean when she said "Neo, come with me.... These are the other potentials, you can wait here" ? The potential of what? potential movie stars, scientist ? what? Also, then the Oracle proceed to inspect Neo in their first meeting like a doctor would inspect a patient. What is she checking for? Please don't she was checking if he's depress or not so she can give him a cookie to feel better Cool Come on people! get those brain working.. let's be creative here... share some ideas ...

Priestess: Hello, Neo. You're right on time.... Make yourself at home, Morpheus. Neo, come with me.... These are the other potentials, you can wait here.

I know exactly how you feel Splinty. This whole thing has made me frusterated too. Major Pain- do you actually think that the Oracle was giving Neo a physical exam to see whether he was capable of being the One? Of course not. She was pulling his leg. She was trying to see whether he was ready to be the One or not. And not by the physical but by Neo's response-

Oracle: Okay. Now I'm supposed to say, `Umm, that's interesting, but...' then you say...
Neo: But what?
Oracle: But you already know what I'm going to tell you.
Neo: I'm not the one.

See. She never says it first. Neo says it first. So as Morpehus said, "She told you exactly what you needed to hear, that's all."

Sorry about causing you grief and frustration splinty , AG and anyone else that was frustrated.

I feel sometimes, someone must play the role of "devil advocate" to get people's passion and motivation going to discuss other ideas and possiblities. Cool

It's okay, Major Pain. Ripping out your hair in frustration is actually a really good hobby!

I believe so to, but I think the system of the Matrix, who chooses the one in the first place (again, this is OPPINION), somehow protects him. Like, if he's in a car accident, he doesn't die, but he gets 5 of his bones broken. It's not like he maraculously comes out of this totaled car unscratched without even his shirt torn. It's very subtle, you know. But once he leaves the Matrix, the system no longer protects him. His "fate" is no longer in its power (it's not even really an it, it's a system so it has no self).

Not to be incredibly off topic, but I don't think that someone would survive after trying to kill himself 100 times. It's like when the newspapers reported that some guy commited suicide by stiking himself in head at least 100 times. Not only were 38 of those strikes fatal, but it's like, "What, it felt so good that he couldn't stop?" Sorry, just trying to spread the love.... Whitelaugh
