»Neo is the only "One"«

I've gone back and tried to find references to who "The One" is and I've only found a few defining statements. From what I can gather, "The One" can control the Matrix with his thoughts, "The One" will cause the destruction of the Matrix and end the war with the machines, Morpheus would find "the One", Trinity would fall in love with "the One", and that's basically it. Oh, one more biggie, "the One" is the second coming of "the one" who first awoke and started to free people. All the other references are to previous anomalies, Neo's predecessors, the others like Neo, etc. . .

Perhaps the prophecy refers to Neo as "the One" and the Neo's predecessors were anomalies but not "the One" i.e. they didn't fulfill the prophecy. None of them ever ended the war. This is why the Oracle isn't sure that Neo is "the One" but eventually, Neo "makes a believer" out of her. The Oracle isn't sure about the outcome of events, but she believes through her intuition that a better, more stable Matrix could be created and that Neo would be "the One" to make that happen. She has seen the anomalies reset the matrix, but Neo is "the One" that will end the war.

I believe That Neo alone is not the one but it is the combination of Neo and Smith that are the true "one" to end the war. The Oracle tells Neo that Smith is his negative, The combination if the two, dark and light make the true "One" that ends the war.

The prophesy was true but it spanned all the versions of the matrix not just the current version. The search for the One spanned all time from the beginning of the matrix (or at least from version 3 on) to the end of the War. The endless cylce in between of restarting the matrix was an illusion to the true search for "The One" that the Oracle was conducting.


Starbuck
