I know it's probably obvious as hell, but I just thought it was really cool, and I didn't see it mentioned in any threads. It's probably there, but I didn't see it...anyways...
In that last fight scene between Neo and Smith, I just thought it was really cool that the 2 of em went back and forth so equally, like a balanced equation. Smith is Neo's opposite...they're flyin around...back and forth, all over the place...very cool scene. Especially liked how when they're flying, they formed the ? infinity sign...like they could go on fighting like that forever.
As I was watching the scene, I was already thinkin about it...what if Neo just stayed in the matrix like that forever...fighting smith for literally infinity. Just as long as they fought, the humans would be safe. The machines would hold off on the slaughter of Zion until the battle between Smith and Neo was over. Would be like Neo's own personal hell...gettin his ass kicked by smith for all eternity. Also would have been a greater sacrafice (i think) than just giving in. If he had kept up the fight, there would be no end, and with no end, there couldn't be another beginning (new version of matrix to follow). He chose not to fight. I understand that he defeated Smith, because of it, the machines won't slaughter Zion....yet...but like they said at the end of the movie: how long will the peace last?
If I were Neo, I would have had to stay in the Matrix with Smith...dueling it out forever...
And why was it that all the other Smith's just stood by and watched? That was gay...he coulda stomped the hell out of Neo with like the entire Smith population. Why didn't he? HE COULD HAVE SO EASILY! Weird...
I dunno...just more ramblings...

The reason why the other smiths didnt fight Neo was because Smith had already seen his victory over Neo by taking over the Oracle, therefore he didnt need all his other copies. By the time he found out that he had been tricked it was too late and his copies were also destroyed.
Also if you watch the first Matrix its obvious that they are equal at that time too, as they keep fighting with both returning after seemingly being killed.
And on a bit of useless information, they used the same sequence from Matrix 1 and in Matrix 3 when the camera zooms in on their fists clenching before they fight hand to hand, kind of a cool bit of continuity.

Who would this benifit? Ok, so the 250,00 people in Zion would probably remain safe, although probably not for long, as the machince God would simply grow tired of it and order the slaughter to continue.
However, what about the millions of minds still plugged into the Matrix, what good what fighting for eternity do them, no-one could be free'd and it would turn out generally pointless!
Dont't you think?

Quote: | Bigbamboo - Smith isn't equal with Neo in the first movie. In fact once Neo gains his power after coming back to life he kicks Smiths ass well and truly. With just one arm too!

They are equal in every way, just as Smith couldnt kill Neo in the first, Neo couldnt kill Smith either as he simply came back with a new set of instructions. Granted it takes Reloaded to point it out, but the fact that neither can kill the other means they are perfectly matched no matter how it actually happens, again they are yin and yang within the Matrix just as Smith comes back after seemingly being killed so eventually will The One.

Smiths purpose

Hey, my first post!

Smiths only purpose in the matrix was to kill Neo,And he went after him in the real world, because he couldn't kill him in the matrix.
Smith was destroyed because Neo let him clone him, Knowing that if he didn't exist then neither would Smith.

I agree with that totally but it's only that it's stated in reloaded that Smith's purpose, in the first movie, was to kill Neo and when he had done so he had obtained a certain satisfaction...He got to watch Neo die. Neo was the only thing standing in his way at the point. Morpheous was already rescued.
I agree totally with the fact that Smith can't live without Neo. It's like believing in Heaven and dismissing that hell ever existed...You have to have both.
By the way, does anyone know what Smith personally wants, he says he wants everything, but why? What good would it do for him?
