The Story of the 8 Matrixes

In the beginning of the 21st Century, mankind created Artificial Intelligence (AI) that soon became self-aware and desired to live. The machines eventually created their own nation. The humans made war with the prospering machines, at first waging useless nuclear war, then blocking out the sun, their power source. Eventually, the humans were defeated on the battlefield and the machines declared dominion over the earth.

The machines converted the conquered humans into efficient power generators by tapping into the biochemical energy output from their bodily functions, specifically from their brain function. They discovered that by tricking the humans’ mind into activity through virtual simulation, more electrical output would be released.

The machines created a program called The Architect that calculated a perfect virtual world that would trick the humans into mental function while in virtual bliss. The called this virtual world the First Matrix, which was a virtual Garden of Eden, where there was no sadness or suffering.

The humans were herded into pods, where they were hooked up into First Matrix. The humans’ bodies were first sustained by nutrients supplied by the machines, but the human bodies that died were liquefied and fed to the living humans. The machines turned humans into crops and had millions of human farmlands to harvest energy into order for them to prosper.

The humans trapped in Eden, the First Matrix, were not allowed Free Will, in case humans killed each other or themselves on purpose in the Matrix. If that occurred, crops of humans would be inefficiently lost. However, the basic essence of the human will would not accept Eden, and eventually one man broke the rules and exercised free will.

The Architect saw this human, The First One, as the result of his imperfect programming. The equation to make a perfect Matrix was flawed because of Free Will. People hacked out of Eden and created Zion. Consequently, the presence of The First One anomaly created a virus that spread throughout Eden. The virus was the negative in the Anomaly Equation whereas the First One’s presence was the positive. The Matrix’s survival was dependent on the balance of the equation.

The Architect decided to destroy and recreate The Matrix. The First One was captured, but he was allowed to select a few people from The First Matrix to survive. The First One’s returned to the Source and the Anomaly Virus was destroyed in his absence because its purpose was to destroy The First One. Without a purpose, the Anomaly Virus was destroyed.

The Architect decided humans would only obey if to forced to. He created an oppressive Matrix that inflicted unending misery for humans. Again, humans would not accept this reality. The Architect knew this and allowed the non-believers to flee to Zion, where he would eventually destroy them anyway.

While the Second Matrix, Hell, was running, the Architect created the Merovingian. It was a program designed to collect information in order to create a more perfect Third Matrix. Hell Matrix began to collapse and the Second One and the Second Virus appeared. The Architect allowed the Second One to reinsert himself into the Source as the First One had done, and the Matrix was reloaded with the new information the Merovingian supplied.

When the Hell Matrix was destroyed, Zion was also destroyed, but the Second One did what the First One had done and saved some people to restart Zion for the Third Matrix. The Merovingian calculated a balance between Eden and Hell, more suitable for human cooperation, called the Third Matrix, or Virtual Earth.

The Architect decided to make a new human relations program, similar to the Merovingian, called the Oracle. When the Merovingian program no longer had a purpose for the Third Matrix, he disobeyed the Architect and did not have himself deleted. He recreated the Hell Matrix and hid from deletion by establishing dominion there.

The citizens of Virtual Earth prospered, but 20% of them still did not accept it. To the Architect’s surprise, the Third One and Third Anomaly appeared. He allowed for the reloading process to occur again. The Third One was reinserted into the Source, the Third Anomaly was destroyed, and Zion was destroyed.

The Oracle and the Architect created the Fourth Matrix to be similar to the First Matrix (Eden), except with the Oracle’s allowing free will. The Fourth Matrix was Second Eden. This led to catastrophe. All of the citizens violently rebelled against the system. The Agents were created to keep peace.

The Fourth One appeared, except this time he bent the rules of the Second Eden Matrix in violent ways by rebelling against the system with military force. The humans staged a revolution in the Matrix and in the Real World. Eventually, the Fourth One chose to reinsert himself back to the source, since the Fourth Virus would have killed all the humans if they persisted fighting.

The Fourth One agreed to reinsert himself as long as the Machines created programs to aid the future Ones in their path to the Source. Also, the next Matrix would be conceived better and more realistic. The Architect and Oracle agreed, creating the Fifth Matrix, the Promised Land.

By the Fifth Matrix, the Architect created the perfect fighting program called Seraph. He did the direct bidding of the Architect and the Oracle, whereas the Agents and other programs where oblivious to the reloading process. Programs that did not want to be deleted went to the Merovingian. It was Seraph’s job to find the programs to be deleted.

As usual, the Fifth One manifested himself as a human, the Fifth Virus manifested himself as a human, The Fifth One was reinserted, The Promised Land was reloaded, and Zion was destroyed.

For the Sixth Matrix, the Oracle and the Architect finally created a perfect program that would be similar to the humans’ history. The program began its simulation in the late 1800s. The Sixth Matrix lasted longer than all the other Matrix’s combined. The One and the Virus did not appear for 100 years.

The Merovingian decided to extend his rule outside of Hell Matrix and begin to deceive the humans of the Sixth Matrix. The System and the Merovingian secretly warred for years. The Merovingian recruited Seraph, who no longer had a purpose since the One and the Virus were not showing up.

In the Sixth Matrix’s simulated year 1999, the followers of Zion had grown to a quarter million. They were waiting for the return of the Fifth One, whom the survivors of The Promised Land had passed down. The citizens of the Sixth Zion, however, did not know of the reloading process or the previous Zions or Ones.

The System calculated only .1% of the Matrix population rejected it. They allowed Zion to prosper, but saw the inevitability of another reload. The human rebels were mostly computer hackers and were more cleverly hacking in and out of the Matrix with impressive techniques.

The most notable human rebels of the Sixth Matrix were Morpheus and Trinity, computer hackers searching for the prophesized return of the One. The Architect and the Oracle made use of the rebels by encouraging their search with false religious hope in the One.

The Oracle sympathized with the humans and foresaw the eventually emergence of the One. She manipulated her calculations, or prophecies, in order to save the human race and keep the citizens of the Sixth Zion from being destroyed. She hid her intentions from everyone, even the Architect.

The Sixth One manifested himself in a computer hacker named Neo. The Architect sought the computer codes for Zion, which had becoming a prospering city. Morpheus, who held the codes, was captured, and Neo and Trinity fought to rescue him. In the process, Neo was the first human in the Sixth Matrix to stand up to the Agents and to kill an Agent.

Oddly, the Virus manifested himself in an Agent computer program named Agent Smith. When Neo had finally become the One Anomaly, he killed Agent Smith simultaneously. The glitch that occurred caused Agent Smith to become the Virus.

Neo gradually came to learn the same rule-bending powers that the previous Ones had. Thousands rejected the Matrix believing in Neo as a religious Messiah figure. Known only as The Kid, a teenage boy was the first in the Sixth Matrix to hack himself out by merely believing in Neo.

Compared to the previous Ones, Neo was more difficult to control. The Architect and the Oracle guided him in the path toward the Source, and Neo, on several occasions, almost was killed getting there.

The Agent Smith Virus was growing out of control as well. It infected every program and human in the Matrix it came in contact with. The Seraph program was taken from the Merovingian in order to keep the Oracle from being infected by the Smith Virus. The Merovingian fought back against the System by capturing the Keymaker Program, which was essential in the One’s path to the Source.

The Oracle at first enlisted the human rebels Niobe and Ghost to rescue the Keymaker program from the Merovingian, but when they failed, she enlisted the help of Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus. Neo rescued the Keymaker and reached the Source.

The Architect revealed the truth about the previous Matrixes to Neo, but Neo chose not to reinsert himself into the Source, because he needed to save Trinity from dying. This was the plan of the Oracle, for Neo to refuse his re-entry into the Source because of his love for Trinity. The Oracle purposefully had Neo and Trinity fall in love for this to happen.

Meanwhile, the Zion ship Osiris discovered the Machine Army sent to destroy the Sixth Zion. This time, the humans had set up Electromagnetic Pulse (EMP) defenses around Zion’s perimeter underground, so this time the machines needed to dig to arrive in Zion this time.

The Smith virus infected Zion rebel Bane’s mind, and he freely walked around the Real World with the Smith virus controlling his actions. The Smith virus was growing beyond The System and even Neo’s control.

Smith-Virus-Infected Bane sabotaged the Zion’s defense, and Morpheus’ ship the Nebuchadnezzar was destroyed. Machine Sentinels attacked Neo, but because he touched the Source and was now connected to it, he could stop them at will. He accidentally jacked himself back into the Matrix with his mind and ended up trapped in Limbo, the place designed by the Trainman program designed to transport people and programs from the Matrix into Hell.

The Trainman was exile and hiding in Hell that the Merovingian controlled, so the Merovingian decided to keep Neo in order for the Smith Virus to destroy the Matrix and the System. The Merovingian knew if he kept Neo from reinserting himself into the Source, the Machines and the Humans would be killed

Seraph, Trinity, and Morpheus saved Neo from the Merovingian. Shortly after, the Smith Virus overran Hell and infected the Merovingian. The Machines began their attack on Zion, and would continue if Neo did not turn himself in and insert himself into the Source.

The humans staged the Battle of Zion and fought with the invading Machine Army. Neo and Trinity traveled to the Machine City to directly talk to the Des Ex Machina, the master computer program. Bane tried to sabotage their plan and permanently blinded Neo. Bane was killed, but Trinity also died on their way to the City.

The Deus Ex Machina demanded Neo reinsert himself into the Matrix, but Neo said it would destroy the Smith Virus if he simply inserted himself into the Source. Neo witnessed Bane infected by Smith, and knew that the Virus must have infected people and programs outside of the Matrix, as well as inside.

Neo negotiated he would only reinsert himself into the Source if the Machines agreed to peace with the humans. Neo knew that since Zion was already being destroyed, if he did not reinsert himself into the Source, the Smith Virus would destroy the Machines as well.

The Deus Ex Machina agreed to allow Neo to jack into the Matrix directly through the source. Neo fought with the Smith Virus entity that infected the Oracle. Neo wanted to defeat the Agent Smith virus, but he was overpowered.

Neo faced the inevitability that he must sacrifice himself into the Source. He allowed the Agent Smith Virus to infect him, while reinserting himself into the Source. All the Virus entities were immediately destroyed when Neo’s code was disseminated.

The Machines agreed to make peace with the humans since Neo nobly fought for both the Humans and Machines. The Matrix was once again reloaded and Neo’s code was programmed into the Seventh Matrix.

The Seventh Matrix no longer enslaved humans. Humans were allowed to rebuild Zion and the humans governed the Seventh Matrix. The humans who discovered the truth about the Matrix and wanted to live in the free world were allowed to leave.

Morpheus was declared the first ruler of the Seventh Matrix and during his reign the humans prospered and lived in peace with the machines. The Seventh Matrix was called the Kingdom. The humans were no longer used as energy for the Machines, and the Matrix was merely used as a means by which humans could exist in peace.

All the programs that oppressed the humans were to be deleted. Those that escaped deletion fled to Hell Matrix. For years the Machines and Humans fought side by side against the Merovingian and the rogue programs of the Hell Matrix.

After 1000 years, the Merovingian finally gained control of the Kingdom Matrix and its branch Matrixes. Since there were no anomalies or viruses necessary, the Machines and Humans decided to resurrect Neo to fight against the Merovingian.

Neo resurrected from the code and the Matrix was temporarily in chaos. With Neo resurrected, the Virus ironically embodied itself as the Merovingian. Neo led the army of the Kingdom against Hell and destroyed it once and for all.

In the process, all the Matrix programs were destroyed, and the Machine network was ruined. The Merovingian destroyed the Architect and Oracle program. With the absence of the Matrixes for the humans to live, they turned against the Machines and war began once again.

The Humans had turned to cyborg, genetic, and cloning technology and put up a total war against the Machines. Neo managed to make peace with the Machines and the Humans by creating a new Perfect Matrix.

Neo dwelt in the Perfect Matrix fully as a human and fully as a program. He reigned in the perfect Matrix forever and it was paradise for humans. The Machines had begun to spread its control over the Real World Galaxy and left the humans to live in peace forever in the Perfect Matrix.

The One first appeared in the 3rd version where the humans were given a choice whether to accept the program or not.

Second, why do you call the anomaly a virus? Call it just the anomaly. You aren't reffering to Smith, are you?

You must read the entire Story through, from beginning to end.

As for Amadeus' claim that I took it from the Matrix Revolution DVD Timeline, I did not. In fact, I did this BECAUSE that Timeline is so incomprehensive. That only covered like, my first two or three paragraphs.

For Akshat Gupta, I appreciate your post. That's a good idea to have the First One appear in the Third Matrix, but I thought the idea of the First Matrix being like the Garden of Eden and the First One to be like Adam taking the Forbidden Fruit (Free Will) worked better with my vision.

I don't claim this to be EXACTLY how everything should have happened. I posted this in the Theories Section. Its my take on the Matrix Timeline.

You guys should really read it in depth. I spent a lot of time on it. Especially the story of the Seventh and Eighth Matrixes. That's purely my take.

Oh, and post replies, I'd like to know what you all think.

Oh, and I have to call the Virus the Virus, because the Anomaly consists of The One AND The Virus, which is his negative. In the case of the Sixth Matrix, that would be the One being Neo and the Virus being Smith. Together they are the Anomaly.

That is why when Neo sacrifices himself Smith dies too, because without purpose, you are deleted from the Matrix. Smith's purpose was to kill Neo, with Neo dead, he has no purpose.

When he infected Neo, Neo was directly hooked up to the Source. So Smith was immediately deleted. He could not hide from deletion since Neo was part of the Source already. Get it?

actually, if you listen to the Architect, the first time the One appeared would have been the 'first' matrix by the Architect's counting. he disregards the real 'first' matrices as failed programs, and ignores them when counting.

first matrix: eden, 'too good to be true'. the first matrix would be inhabited by the newly captured humans at the end of the war. while living in paradise, they may have had residual memories of their past life in the real world, and like the kid, woke up in the the real world as if from a dream, thereby causing the malfunction of 'Eden', power was lost, wiping out entire crops and the humans most likely drowned and died in the recycling system (where Neo was picked up)

now, where the Merovingian comes in, is speculative, but we can say that he played a role in the Eden, a designer of programs/objects/things whatever; that would entice sensory pleasure in the humans which would make them want to stay, a precursor to the Oracle who had the same function (to make humans accept the program of the matrix and make them want to stay inside) whether or not the Merovingian did a good job or not, or deliberately fouled up by giving the humans 'knowledge' of the matrix and themselves who knows?

we can also assume that the Architect took great pride in his Eden and was often seen walking around in it.

second matrix: now the humans would have to work long days for food and everything else. hardly leaving time for recreational activities. the Merovingian still plays a role in devising new pains and sensory experience to make the humans believe they were in a real world, with programs designed to constantly torment the humans. the Merovingian creates an Underworld where humans would be tortured or given a blissful life in the 'Elysian fields', where Persephone was used to determine which experiences were accepted more by the humans. it was she who determined that both pleasure and pain was needed to be experienced by the humans in order to make the matrix more believable. the 'river' was used to travel between the machine world and the Merovingians underworld in the matrix, and it was run by the 'boatman'. third matrix: matrix year 1999, the peak of human civilisation. the Merovingian sets up his empire with the programs he saved from the previous matrix, including Persephone who helped the Merovingian find out how the humans were reacting to various stimuli. the boatman becomes the Trainman, and creates Mobil Ave. the Merovingian may still have been needed to write programs for sensory experience in this matrix, because this is the Matrix where the Oracle discovers the problem of giving the humans 'choice'

fourth matrix: matrix year 1999, humans have an unconscious 'choice' of whether to accept the matrix or not, resulting in the first arrival of the Anomaly, the first One. Seraph may be a guard of the Merovingian in these new matrices. from the Architect's counting, this is the first emergence of the one, therefore, Matrix One.
followed by several other matrices where the One emerges until the Peace is obtained by Neo.

what specific job Seraph did, i don't know, nor do i know when he started to protect the Oracle, so place whatever job you think he did in whereever you think he should be.

Zion may not have emerged until the 'choice' was given to humans and the anomaly of the one awakens. while there may not have been a Zion during this matrix, the One would have Zion built at the time when that choice is given to Neo. or perhaps to add to the stability of this version of the Matrix, the humans who did not accept the program were freed and placed in the controlled environment of Zion by the machines. though it could be that this 'first' version of the Matrix wasn't entirely stable, so the emergence of the One would have happened fairly quickly, and the prophecy where 'it was that man who freed the first of us, told us the truth' happens and the One was actually the first free human, aided by the machines in building the city, was lead to extract the 'rebel' humans and helped with the stability of the matrix until he was needed to go to the source.

Anywho, read the whole thing, like you asked. It is impressive, and I, for one, didn't recognize anything from the Rev. DVD timeline, for the record. I applaud your effort.

However (you knew that was coming, didn't you?), there are some things I would like to contest. I, like AG, believe the Architect was talking about two full versions of the Matrix BEFORE the emergence of the One (Anomaly). I like your explanation, and must admit, it could simplify the whole matter, but I need to think on it a bit... it's hard to let go of a belief.

Also, I'm kinda hesitant about your additions of titles to your matrices: 'Kingdom,' 'Virtual Earth,' etc.... I don't know where you got them, and while they are arguably clever, I don't see how they belong.

I have mentioned elsewhere that I don't think the Architect had his hands in the Matrix after he created it, nor do I think the Oracle had any direct control over the actions of Neo and Trinity, or any of the other rebels. I think the Architect and the Oracle pretty much let the humans do what they were going to do anyway. Maybe the Oracle gave a subtle push along the way, here or there, but I definitely don't think she -- what was it? ...oh, yeah --

I would have put the Osiris earlier in the timeline, as it happens earlier. Sure, it helps tell the story, sort of, but it would make more sense in the place where it belongs, if you ask me (which I know you didn't).

I don't know about the 'Seventh' and 'Eighth' matrices, either. It is pretty good Fan fiction, I'll grant that. (Except I don't buy Morpheus as ruler of anything--he's a leader, yes, but he would not consent to rule, as I understand and interpret his character.) But I wouldn't include it in a Matrix Timeline, since you wrote it, and the rest was written by others, whose permission you do not have to add to their work. Fanfiction isn't something everybody gets behind, either. The WB (that's 'Warner,' not 'Wachowski,' and it's pronounced 'wub' ) may consider something like this copyright infringement. They may not, of course, and if they don't, then fanfic is cool... but usually, fanfic just adds to the story, it doesn't change existing elements of the story! I shall elucidate:

My point, exactly: This isn't YOUR vision. This is the work of other people, and you have no business rewriting it. If you are going to call it Fan Fiction, and put a disclaimer on it saying that it's not quite the same as the vision of the actual creators of the story, then okay, but otherwise, stick to the script, man. And I still say, Add what you want in fanfic, but try not to change the story just so it suits 'your vision.'

There are some (quite a few, actually) other things I disagree with, but they are minor, they are matters of personal interpretation, or they are things I'm just too darned tired to get into right now. i haven't seen the timeline in the revolutions dvd, i'll have to check it out.

from what the architect says about counting the versions by the emergence of the One, that could mean that there were entire versions of the matrix where the one did not emerge in between the counted versions, but maybe not.

hmm... I'm not so sure I like that. But, as you said, it's speculative, and I guess that's as good a speculation as any.

Now, so far, your speculations don't seem to conflict with the already-given history of the Matrix story. That's the kind of fan fiction I like to see. My problems with stories based on existing stories that change elements of said existing stories run deep; there are many reasons I don't like it, which I won't get into. But I don't oppose fan fiction in and of itself. I am a writer, and I think that if anyone wanted to do fan fic based on my work, I'd be flattered, but I still would want the stories not to conflict with the ones I wrote. See?

third matrix: matrix year 1999, the peak of human civilisation. the Merovingian sets up his empire with the programs he saved from the previous matrix, including Persephone who helped the Merovingian find out how the humans were reacting to various stimuli. the boatman becomes the Trainman, and creates Mobil Ave. the Merovingian may still have been needed to write programs for sensory experience in this matrix, because this is the Matrix where the Oracle discovers the problem of giving the humans 'choice' fourth matrix: matrix year 1999, humans have an unconscious 'choice' of whether to accept the matrix or not, resulting in the first arrival of the Anomaly, the first One. Seraph may be a guard of the Merovingian in these new matrices. from the Architect's counting, this is the first emergence of the one, therefore, Matrix One. followed by several other matrices where the One emerges until the Peace is obtained by Neo.

Ah, here's where I disagree. I don't see a Matrix between the 'Hell' and the 'first One' anywhere in the Architect's soliloquy. I think the first One emerged in Matrix build 3 (v.1) But, like you said, it COULD mean there were versions in between.... Occam's Razor tells me there weren't, but it would not totally mess up the story if there were.

There you go. Do check out the timeline on the DVD. it's probably the most complete so far, but it still leaves out most of the holes we're all trying to fill. (grrr....)

i looked at the timeline on the revolutions disc, and it only has the war as in the 2nd renaissance 1&2, and the matrix when Neo was born. it says nothing about the original matrices that failed, and says, 'when the matrix was first built, there was a man born inside that could change blah blah blah' when we know that this is not true. all the timeline did was summarize the first 2 movies and the 2nd renaissance.

Then the timeline is crap.

When it came time for Neo to swallow the pills in the Matrix, I chose to get up and leave and never find out anything. I prefer ignorance and the bliss it offers.

In the Matrix, Cypher puts a piece of juicy steak in his mouth and says "Ignorance is bliss"....

That is the stupidest thing he said in the movie.

Why is it stupid? Because you're feeling a very STRONG connection with the Matrix when you take pleasure in something deeply.

IN SUMMARY:

Sometime in the early 21st Century, humans create A.I., and for a time, it was good. A.I. spawns an entire race of machines that exist to serve humanity powered by solar energy. Some machines are abused by their masters. Then, one machine (B166ER) kills a human in “self defense” and the human nations of the world banish the machines from their midst. They create their own nation called “01” and attempt to co-exist peacefully with the rest of the world. The humans view this new super-machine-nation as a threat and so they attack 01 and start the War of humans vs. machines. Humans attempt to permanently block the sun from powering the machines by blackening the sky. Machines fight back and win because of their superior technology. Humans surrender, but machines now need alternate power supply so they use humans themselves. In order to get maximum power from the human body, the machine program called the Architect writes an interactive simulation for the human mind called the Matrix. Humans are now literally sleeping throughout their lives in order to provide energy to the machines they created. Hence, the human race is enslaved as the Matrix simulation begins:

In the 1st and 2nd Matrices, the programming was too absurd for the dreaming humans to accept. “Entire crops were lost”. The 1st was a paradise as envisioned by the Architect program, but people didn’t accept it because it was too perfect. The 2nd was a wasteland/hell, but people didn’t accept it because it was too horrible (this is probably also when the Merovingian program came to/was sent to the Matrix – he ruled this version). Then, an intuitive program whose purpose it was to study certain aspects of the human psyche (later known as the Oracle) came up with the idea of giving the people in the Matrix the choice to leave, even if only at a near unconscious level. Under these conditions, over 99% of the humans accepted the artificial reality of the Matrix. However, the presence of choice was a problem because the 1% who rejected the Matrix unbalanced the equation as all variables do. This created an otherwise contradictory “Systemic Anomaly”. This principle was typified in “the Anomaly”: a single human who was so aware of the Truth of the Matrix that he could change it himself, since it is, in fact, a simulation designed to trick the human mind. The Oracle and Architect realized that if left unchecked, these free humans, and the Anomaly specifically, would destroy the Matrix itself. So, a system of control was instituted to lead the Anomaly (henceforth known as “the One”) back to them at which point he would be given the choice to save his fellow humans still in the Matrix or have them all die when the system crashes. The One would save the humans in the Matrix by going to the machine mainframe (the Source) so that his code could be assimilated into the Matrix programming, then reinserting/restarting it as a better, more complete Matrix, beginning the process all over again. In this 3rd version of the Matrix, those who chose to leave it populated a place in the real world they called Zion. Eventually, the One would emerge and be found by these freed humans. It is at this time that the One must be led to the Source (by the Oracle among others) and all of the inhabitants of Zion must be killed because they represent an unacceptable risk to the stability of the system. At the end of this 3rd version, everything goes according to plan and the One gets to the Source. The Architect then instructs him to select from the Matrix (not Zion) 23 individuals with which to rebuild Zion so the Matrix can reload and the process can start again. And so, the One chooses 23 humans who are ignorant of the past and Matrix version 4 is born. Everything goes according to the Plan again, and Matrix version 5 is born. Everything goes according to the Plan again, and Matrix version 6 is born. Everything goes according to the Plan again, and Matrix version 7 is born. Everything goes according to the Plan again, and Matrix version 8 is born. This is where the films take place. The One of version 7 is who Morpheus is describing when he tells Neo about the “man who could change whatever he wanted; To remake the Matrix as he saw fit. It was he who freed the first of us.” However, Morpheus does not know he was the One of a previous cycle. Morpheus knows nothing at all of these cycles; after all, Morpheus was born (along with Trinity and all other free humans seen in the films) in this 8th Matrix cycle. Only the One carries with him the knowledge of the Ones before him, and he is only informed of this at the end of the cycle as not to jeopardize the master plan. Only when the previous One dies can a new One be born in the Matrix, and the One for this 8th Matrix is Neo. So Neo is born in the Matrix some time after the previous One dies in Zion. What is different this time, however, is that the Oracle program has decided that this cycle of war has gone on long enough and she wants change. She realizes the only way to do that is to work together with the humans, not continue to enslave them. Hence, she uses her foreknowledge of events (since she wrote the script long ago) to issue a Prophecy to the freed humans of Matrix #8. She will use her influence to give Neo a chance to do something no previous One could do: end the war. Along the way, the consequence of the Agent Smith program being “killed” by Neo (marked for deletion since upgrades had to be created) was that he chose to hide in the Matrix and he became a virus to the very system he was created to protect. In the end, the One sacrifices himself for both humans and machines and a new day dawns when it is finally reloaded with Neo’s code. A new kind of Matrix now exists that will free all who wish to leave and not try to destroy them (Zion will continue uninterrupted); this includes humans and programs that wish to be freed. Matrix version 9 is born with no end in sight.

i mean... they have to... how else are you gonna walk out of your pod....and wonder off... 4 kilometers underground throuh huge tunnels to finaly stand up and scream; THIS IS WHERE FREEDOM STARTS and then build ur own little hut and hope more ppl will come and find u to join u....

If im correct!
Neo lives in the real-world around the year 2199 (stated by morphius)
Neo lives in the Matrix-World in the year 1999 (stated by neo)
AI was invented around the year 2050 and the first Matrix found in around 2100 (correct?)
and here it comes....
Neo's matrix-version started off in the year 1800, making it about 200 years to work succesfully (untill neo made trouble).
But the FIRST matrix was found in 2100 and 99 years later neo hacks out of his version (the 6th already!)

how the **** is this possible?

- does time go (enormously) faster inside the matrix?
- is morphius' prediction of the year 2199 very incorrect? ( more like 2399 then)
- did neo's matrix didnt start at 1800 at all, but more like 1950?

The last option would still mean that all previous 5 matrix versions could have covered more than a few years...

we know the movie is physically incorect at many many points, even though it tries to be correct, but still i would like to have some sort of answer to this
