Dark Glasses and Trinity's Death

I just have a quick theory about the dark glasses... I remember when I was in high school that my teacher had us analyze Lord of the Flies... if you have read it you'll remember that Piggy, the smart boy, loses his THICK glasses. He is then rendered practically blind. My teacher explained that blindness is symbollic of being wise because you perceive and see life thru other senses... she then went on to say that one of the big philosophers from ancient Greece was blind... Homer or Aristotle or Plato... I don't remember which one... I think it was Homer... anyways...

The fact that almost every important character wears dark glasses inside the Matrix can be a reference to that... they're not COMPLETELY blind, but they are wiser than average... they use other senses... they're more aware... if only in that they KNOW that Matrix life isn't real... that's just my take on it... and it seems to fit nicely with Neo going blind in "Revolutions"... however, I still can't explain the golden code he sees (senses) when he's blind...

Can it be a representation of his newfound 'wiseness'? If it is, I still can't explain the squiddie flying thru Neo... maybe it was just his mind getting used to his newfound powers... probably seeing something that COULD'VE been had he not been inside the ship... and maybe towards the end of the film where the audience sees the machines taking Neo away in golden code is just the Wachowskis way of patting the audience on the back: you are a little wiser now, folks... heheheheh

Anyways... Trinity's death wasn't THAT long... I think it was just right... perfect actually... I mean, she was BLEEDING to death... those tentacles didn't puncture her heart... bleeding is a pretty long process... and besides, their love was so powerful, and so tragic, and they KNEW that they wouldn't see each other when they were on their way... they HAD to drag the moment out... I felt it was the nicest death scene I've seen in the while... I swear half the theater was crying when I saw it the first time...

I couldn't help but notice, however, that she remembered the other time when she ALMOST died on the top of the building and she regretted saying "I love you"... instead, she was now thankful for having the opportunity to ask for a kiss before dying... it kinda reminded me of Persephone always asking for kisses...

What do you think that is?

I'm a newbie on this site but I've been a Matrix fan since the beggining...

In regards to Trinity's death, I have heard people say that it was poorly done or there was no real point to it. However, I think it was actually pretty symbolic. After Neo was blinded by Bane, Trinity took over driving the ship. She was able to get Neo to the source, her purpose. Since she couldn't do anything else to help Neo, she had effectively served her purpose like a program; therefore, she was to be "deleted", which in this case meant her death. Aside from that, without Trinity, Neo was able to make his sacrifice with more ease because he knew that he didn't have that love to live for anymore

i was bauling during the death scene lol...i thought it was perfect..i didn't think it was too long at all so i was surprised when i heard people say that...if it was any less that what it was, i would've been really disappointed...her death speech needed to give justice to the relationship she and neo had...they truly loved eachother..if she just died and that was that, i'd be pissed off...she needed to go out with a big speech..shes trinity damnit! lol

dodge this...

Trinity regretted saying "Sorry" not "I Love You".
Homer was a greek poet that some people believe didn't exist. However, yes...Homer was blind.

I have to commend you on that theory though, it is a good one.

And, Kare, the Oracle allowed Agent Smith to take over her body because she believe in Neo and that he would defeat Agent Smith. However, either way, she would have eventually been taken over by him.

the oracle/smith thing was because the oracle isn't a fool. mazin made a good point by sying he'd take her over eventually. although, it would've been pretty badass to see the oracle fight smith.

NEO?! You scared the bejeezus out of me.

I believe that "we are here to do what we are all here to do" explains it all.
The purpose of the Oracle is to unbalance the equation, and to do that she had to be there for the One to do his thing, his purpose (null with Smith)

A good point. In Reloaded, Neo chooses the door on the right because of Trinity. She is the difference between this version of the cycle and the 5 previous. Without her, Neo would have taken the left door and fulfilled what the Architect believes is his purpose.

Revolutions does nothing to suggest that Neo feels any other way. As soon as he finishes Bane, Neo calls for Trinity. As soon as the ship stops dead at the machine city, Neo calls for Trinity. If she had lived, Neo would not have allowed himself to be assimilated by Smith.

Her purpose was entirely to carry Neo through till this point. She is the reason he rose from the dead in M1, she is the reason he defied the Architect in M2. Her death cleared Neo's mind of "earthly concerns" he may have honored Morpheus and held the people of Zion in high regard, but he loved Trinity.

Movies often portray people dying either way to fast. There is no way, at all that Bane could have killed the girl in the infirmery (I forget her name) with a single scalpel thrust to the belly. It's just not possible. From the size of the blade and the way he was holding it, he would likely have only passed the muscle wall into the abdominal cavity by maybe 1 or 2 centimeters. Hardly a fatal thrust. Belly wounds are horrible. They take forever to kill since by themselves they are almost never fatal. She would have eventually died from sepsis (blood poisoning caused by the contents of the intestine leaking into the abdominal cavity) rather than from blood loss. But not to look up at Bane and fall down dead. That was a huge plot hole IMO.

Trinity bled to death and since she believed she was dying, believed she had fulfilled her destiny and likely believed that she had to die to free Neo's mind. She "gave up" she accepted death. This is a very powerful factor with critical injuries.

We learn from the scene with the Merovingian that the eyes of the Oracle cannot be taken, they can only be given. So the Oracle's permission is necessary. Why? Well, Smith is basically a stunt by the Oracle to force the hand of the machines and of Neo to end the war and leave things as they are.

As for sunglasses: they are a symbolic form of protection. When Morpheus gets beat up in The Matrix by Agent Smith and then the cops, he is not wearing his sunglasses. When Neo beats up Agent Smith, concurrently, he first breaks Smith's sunglasses. Neo has to stop and put on his sunglasses when Smith pops up in Reloaded, while at the end of the fight in Revolutions, both Smith and Neo have their sunglasses off.

Another symbol that pops up is the necktie. The necktie is considered by many a phallic symbol. When Morpheus slices off the agent's necktie on top of the semi, he is symbolically castrating the agent. Also, when Smith assimilates Bane, he stops to adjust his necktie: this is cheap and self-indulgent of Smith, which fits with the symbolism.
